Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that offers reproductive health care to millions in the United States. It provides high-quality and affordable care. However, it has recently been under attack by the Trump administration. The Trump administration is trying to get Planned Parenthood defunded. I believe the federal government should continue to fund Planned Parenthood because it provides essential health care services in addition to abortions and is extremely important to the health of many women, men, and young people.
For over 100 years, Planned Parenthood has been providing people with reproductive health care. On October 16, 1916, three women open the first clinic in the U.S. to offer birth control. Margaret Sanger, her sister Ethel Byrne, and Fania Mindell were the originators of this first clinic in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Some of the things they did were provide advice, give information on birth control, and also distribute it. In a short period of time the clinic got shut down, while the three women were arrested and charged with crime.
Now, Planned Parenthood has grown into one of the largest leading providers of health care and sex education in the Unites States. There are more than 600 health centers across the nation. Each year, over 2.5 million women and men visit Planned Parenthood for information and health care services.
