I believe that people should be able to exercise their religion freely with fear of persecution, but they should not tell everyone what to do. People of faith can keep their religious convictions as long as they does not infringes on everyone natural right in the constitution. Their believed should be in the frame work of the law. However, In the United States (U.S), we have religious freedom. Everyone can practice their religion without intimidation and Congress cannot established a state religion. Which implies that there is a separation of church and state, and religion is a private matter. This is enshrine into our constitution and make us be at peace with another. Settlers wanted religious freedom and for them to get the freedom they wanted, they left and founded the United
Yes, this would certainly be considered cruel and unusual punishment. It wasn’t that long ago a man could beat his wife, she was his property. We had slaves and they could be treated as the master pleased. Our laws now protect each of us, whether the color, age, sex, or religion. We have come a long ways and it’s difficult to accept that everyone doesn’t see things the way we do.
Major religions dating back 4,000 years have served as institutions that bring individuals together in the form of communities that share similar morals, ideals, and customs. Religion greatly affects individual behavior both positively and negatively because of how important of a role it plays in many lives. Smidt (1999) notes that religious institutions act as a societal framework that provides a variety of services such as guidance, physical care, and social networks. It is at these institutions where individuals are first introduced to ideas about ethics, values, and customs. Thus, officials within each religion have an important role in shaping how their congregates view the world. Many religious institutions serve as the center of a particular
and fund a religion. The original settlers in America were looking for religious freedom, in particular they were trying to get away from the state sponsored religion being practiced in England at the time. The Anglican church was the “church of England” and bishops were appointed by the King of England (Heyrman 2017). If you didn’t belong to the official religion of the country, you were an outcast. A lot of these outcast were the people who originally settled the United States, they wanted to get away from state sponsored religion. However, once in America they started the same system of government supporting a favored religion. Instead of one national religion, individual states supported different churches. According to Shmoop (2017): “Congregationalism
The United States has a history of being tremendously diverse in religions and cultures from all over the world. Although our nation is immensely diverse, one in four Americans are Roman Catholic today (Chase, 1-23-15). With such a large population, Roman Catholics have had multiple changes and barriers to their religious faith. Many Catholics can trace back to the point in time when their ancestors arrived in the United States and what specific events altered their religious experiences. Although most immigrants arrived to the United States during the 19th century, Catholic immigration occurred many years before the European movement My mother and father both grew up in the Roman Catholic faith with their ancestors migrating to the United States in the 1850s. Although their families came to the US at the same time, they had some different social and political experiences growing up.
Even though, George W. Bush had become, like some of his great predecessors, the voice of inspiration and hope for freedom not only in America, but in all over the world, he had received many critics for his religious contribution on American politics. In the light of this quotation, Noll shows that the second victory of President Bush was somehow astonishing when we noticed the crucial role of the white evangelical Protestants plays in his second term. Additionally, this quotation shows that if there were no evangelicals’ support, the President would not win the election, it also; strengthens the value of religion and its place in the American political life.
Religion and the United States have an interesting relation over the history of the United States. Religious conservatives portray the United States as being God’s chosen nation and that religion influences every facet and procedure of the United States. Liberals try to contend that the United States is a bastion of secularization and that the founders were not particularly religious. David Sehat in his book, The Myth of American Religious Freedom, shows that religion has played a significant role in the United States, but that interaction is not always good in terms of individual actions and actually put the individuals of losing life, property and limb. Overall, Sehat’s books detail the moral establishment that was created around the time of the American Revolution and the various methods that were used in order for them to maintain their power. The book also details the way that religious and secular dissenters tried to push back against the moral establishment.
Through out history religion has played a major role in history. For many people who settled in Northern New England came for religious freedom and the colonies were spread because of that. Believing in religion is often the spiritual thing that they lead their life with. Robert Putnam, in his book, American Grace; How Religion Divides and Unites Us claims that religion, when taken in high doses is toxic to civil life, this is true to an extent. Although many people can agree with his claim he isn’t completely right because religion can still be beneficial for people who truly believe in it. Its true religion has set back society a few steps with the prosecution of many innocent people and the deaths of thousands of people but, religion has also helped many people get through hardships they face.
This concept, though, is one of the largest components that religious people in America who wish to establish us as a Christian nation fail to understand or sympathize with. This is why football coaches praying with the team is not allowed. It makes some students uncomfortable. Some students may feel their right to speak up is constrained because they will get less play time if they go against the grain. For me personally, Oklahoma’s blatant endorsement of Christianity has made me feel incredibly uncomfortable wanting to join the legal profession. For starters, in order to look attractive to Law schools, it would be advisable to get a job with good experience. For many, that is a job working in the government, mostly in the District Attorney’s office or the Attorney General’s office. Everytime I see a Ten Commandments statue on the state Capitol (which has recently been removed) or I see “In God We Trust” plastered all over the capitol grounds, I am reminded that I am an outsider. I don’t belong here. As an outsider, I have seriously had to reconsider the prospects of a government job for the fear of subtly being discriminated against.

In the Bill of Rights, Americans have the right to freedom of religion. Religion is the foundation in the United States of America, so it should be taught in schools.
