A 5 year old wakes up on a bright and sunny day with no worries in the world. Looking into the mirror, they don’t even think twice about the way they look. Putting on whatever clothes, hair crazy, shoes untied; Not focused on what matches with what, and what other kids might think. That is the beauty of being young. Not a care in the world, except who might be available to play at the park today. Confidence comes, goes, and then eventually comes again, all at different age groups and all different times. Different types of self acceptance, such as the differences in how kids view self acceptance, men and women self esteem, and sexuality acceptance and the troubles that come with them. Learning to understand the true, and possible many, definitions of self acceptance could help many in the future, be able to cope with the stress that may be endured within the transition of growing up, and learning to love who we are. Self acceptance is “an individual's satisfaction or happiness with oneself, and is thought to be necessary for good mental health.” (Shepard). Many do not understand the true importance of self acceptance as a human, and the expectations this society we humans live in today, expect our generation to live up to. Whether people want to admit it or not, everyone struggles at a time in their life, with the way they perceive themself.
