As a group, we predicted that most individuals would use an aux cord as they have a cell phone and also drive at the same time. Also, the selective attention questions that we came up with would definitely help us with this project and the correlation towards the cocktail party effect. I wanted to choose a topic that is well known today so we decided to choose texting and driving as our general theme of the whole picture in regards to using an aux cord and the distractions that would come along with that. Texting and driving accidents has been rising over the years and at any given time throughout the day approximately 660,000 drivers are attempting to use their phones while behind the wheel of a vehicle. Cell phone distraction rates are alarmingly high and brain correlates of the orientation of auditory spatial attention onto speaker location in a “cocktail-party” situation. In a cocktail-party situation, localization of a target of a target requires increased attentional effort, and thus is much more demanding for the auditory system than localization of a source presented in isolation (Lewald & Getzmann, 2015). This pathway is distinct from the anteroventral auditory stream, comprising the anterior parts of auditory cortex, anterior temporal lobe, and inferior frontal lobe.
