An officer should start taking notes as soon as physically possible when entering a potential crime scene. An officer needs to use discernment when taking notes while interviewing a victim or a witness who may not want to be recorded. It may be more productive to write the notes immediately after the interview. Officers should first record all the general information such as time, date, and location. Notes should include a description of location including variables such as weather and visibility at the location. Notes should include as many facts as possible to answer questions such as when, where, who, what, how, and why. An officer's notes will become part of the official record and should be factual, precise, and free from opinion.
As a member of the military a person would not think that using the writing process would be a critical part in your everyday work. Since joining the military, I have found myself using my personal writing process on many circumstances to achieve desired results of communicating clearly. A situation that comes to mind is when I had to write a report on a mission that I went on. The report had to have all the important information from what my mission was, what objectives I accomplished, and my recommendations to the unit that I assisted to avoid the same issues from not happening again. With all the information that needed to be included in the report and to make the report easy to comprehend from individuals not involved in the mission
There are multiple reasons why soldiers should follow the orders they are given. An order is a task given to a soldier of something that needs to be done in a timely and efficient manner. The three main reasons why it is important for soldiers to follow orders are chaos, selfless-service, and being disciplined. When you’re in the army you need to stop and think if it will harm you or your battle buddies. When a soldier doesn’t follow orders while in combat zone it makes the mission ineffective, if a single soldier in the unit is combat ineffective it lowers the chances of winning, making the leaders deal with a soldier that can’t handle the workload of the unit.
This platoon is a family and as a family we should work as such no questions asked when something needs to be completed as an nco I need to complete the mission first at all times to get it accomplished in a timely manner and ensure that it is completed to standard from LT to pvt everyone should police themselves to accomplice the task at hand if ssg parou needs something completed by Thursday it is because someone above him needs it as well and we should never put our team member or leadership in a position where they are embarrassed or talked down to because an nco couldn’t complete their tack at hand and as an nco there should be no excuse to why you can complete a simple task that is why I am an nco to lead by example.
Identify and discuss the various types of written or oral communication presented in the case and the guidelines for each type of communication. Consider the prosecution, defense, witnesses, and the judge. Write an arrest-and-incident police report using the specified guidelines and parameters for report writing as outlined in the assigned readings. Assume the role of the investigating officer. The report must be factual, accurate, objective, and complete. Ensure the police report is as long as necessary, concise, clear, and mechanically correct.
Some general information that the investigator must have knowledge of is The Model Penal Code. The definition for The Model Penal Code is a person is guilty of robbery if they inflict serious bodily harm on another person, threatens or intentionally puts victim in fear of serious bodily injury, or commits or threatens to commit any felony of the first or second degree. Because theft or attempted thefts are the elements of robbery the investigator must have the knowledge to define those elements properly to investigate the case in the proper manner. To thoroughly investigate a robbery and have a successful prosecution the interview must be carefully developed in terms, sequence of individuals involved, and the questions asked should be in sequence. A category plan is used to help determine the interview plan. Physical factors such as age, injury, and race; emotional/physiology factors such as ego and attitude toward police; are all part of the category used to determine the interview plan. Another ethical consideration when investigating robbery is conducting the investigation by the proper protection and search measures of the crime scene. Footprints, fingerprints and fiber traces, saliva, body secretions such as fibers on clothing, trace material from victim on the suspects clothing, physical evidence from where a weapon is recovered, blood samples
The Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer is, to some, just words that must be uttered during ceremonies and those times when new sergeants earn their stripes. To others, there is no higher thought. These Soldiers live their time while in uniform trying their best to uphold everything written in those three paragraphs. Some choose what those words mean; others make little effort in deciding but let others decide for them. When I entered the service of my country 6 years ago, I had no clue that such a creed existed. My family included wartime veterans; my grandfathers served in korea. And my great Grandfather in world 1. They All served honorably and passed down many stories of both tragic and valorous deeds. They all know and have told me
In the world today, ideological differences are the root causes of many conflicts between individuals or nations and if allowed to aggravate, it becomes the brush strokes for a canvas that turn out to be the portrait of an all-out warfare. However, before countries engage in militarism, it is prudent that the leadership takes pragmatic steps towards a peaceable resolution because the misconception among architects of conflict is to further private agenda for their personal benefit. In a blind quest for gratification, these benefits are an opportunity cost for the larger society who is the unfortunate recipient of the ensuing anarchy. Nothing is fair in war; casualties caught up within the crossfire

There are instances when interrogations lead to wrongful conviction of innocent persons due to false confessions especially if the suspect is coerced to confess. All these problems can be inhibited by recording or videotaping the interrogation process when writing a case statement for a suspected offender. Videotaping the interrogation is one way to limit the interrogating personnel from using coercion which is usually the major cause of false confessions. The videotaping or recording is beneficial in ensuring that the written confessions are complete and accurate and can be verified if need be. The interrogators also benefit from videotaping since it reduces the workload of recording exclusive statements and instead, they are able to concentrate on the suspect. If any allegations arise or relevant information had
Summarize the “best practices” of interviewing as discussed in the Snook et al (2012) article and then discuss how the use (or lack of use) of best practices can impact the quality and validity of information gathered by police officers.
One year ago I faced the possibility of being forced out of the Special Forces Regiment due to a mandatory promotion to O-4. At the point where I finally felt as though I had developed enough experience to be an effective Detachment Commander it was time for me to move on which has been a re-occurring theme throughout my career. In the National Guard there's a very finite amount of billets for Special Forces Officers and each of those had been filled. As I faced the fear of having to leave the Regiment, if only for a few years, a reprieve was delivered from MG Reeder. An official policy allowed National Guard Special Forces Officers to resign their commission and submit an application to become a Warrant
Maintaining an organized and legible notebook is an important part of field notes. Field notes can be used to refresh your memory while writing an incident report, to remind yourself during testimony of the facts, and even subpoenaed. This could include the person who sounded the alarm, any victims, suspects and witnesses. You will want to include
I was requested to write this paper on 15 May 2012 by Sgt. Crawford on the grounds that my conduct was unsatisfactory and an entire lack of regard. I comprehend that I can't do that. As I have been told previously. We don't pay you to think. You will never win in the event that you believe you're being understated by attempting to make things helpful for yourself. It might just be at a minor scale however that is the place everything starts. Taking after orders is mandatory in the military and failure to do as such is a chargeable offense. Regardless of the importance of the request it must be taken after. Taking after requests additionally imparts teach inside the levels of leadership. The Army does not acknowledge people who can't take after
I used several of the same attributes that a Special Forces warrant officers (SFWO) need for the Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Multinational (JIIM) environment as you did. I do agree with your assessment that a SFWO must master the attribute of interpersonal skills in a JIIM environment. Tact is as important aspect of interpersonal skills and something you have to know when dealing with counterparts in JIIM.
