I communicate more effectively by writing than I do communicating verbally. I believe that I write to the best of my ability with the knowledge I have but know that I could definitely learn a lot in this class that will help me write better. I do not write a lot for pleasure or for work although when I was a kid I spent a lot of time writing poems. I really enjoyed it and dedicated a lot of time to writing. As I have gotten older, all my spare time I used to have seems to be consumed by all the adult responsibilities of being a parent, a grandparent, and a Soldier.

You hand in a 30 page paper that took a few sleepless nights where you were just surviving off Red Bull, and after analyzing it, the professor hands it back to you and yells “No, I don’t like your style of writing here, try again”. WHAT! In your head you’re thinking DID HE REALLY JUST SAY TRY AGAIN AS IF THIS WERE A GAME? What do I consider good writing consists of? First, let’s start off by defining what I anticipate the word “good writing” means. Good separates itself from bad by the vibe the reader feels when they read your paper. If you’re putting ideas on paper and the readers do not want to finish reading, then your paper has not yet gotten off to a good start. Good writers make their audiences intrigued and curious to hear what comes next. I believe the basics of becoming a good writer include someone who writes good papers by including correct punctuation, spells with perfect grammar, includes smooth transitions, and includes factual and informative statements. However, those aren’t the only characteristics that define a good writer.
Reading and writing are both important; you can’t have one without the other. They are skills that are increased constantly due to little things that most times are not noticed. Whether it is from a book to a poem, there will always be a way that it helps out your school performance. Reading and writing in general only helps absorb information, and enhance leisure or school related writing tasks. It has also made life itself so much easier because reading and writing are so beneficial for school and for life. How much you read and write today, will somehow affect your future job, family, position, or even your salary.
