Growing up, I thought of writing as discomforting and boring because sometimes a sentence would take too long to write and I would fear that my handwriting would be more terrible than others. However, as the years passed by and I progressed, I started to grow a settling interest for 3rd person writing. Thanks to my love for reading stories, I wanted to create my own set of stories and use my imagination to put it down in words. Although there was more to this in the real world than writing stories, this is what gained my interest in writing and the one thing that made me feel comfortable while writing.
Since high school, I was presented with a various types of writing ranging from essays to research papers. I did my first formal research

Surprisingly, to my knowledge, we had one of those reading test where you log onto the computer, select your top five kind of books you like to read, and begin the test. In regards, the more questions you get right the sooner the test will come to an end, however, if you don’t do so well the test to keep giving you different questions until you get enough right. I would always score low, nonetheless, the next time around I was well prepared because I felt embarrassed I had not received a higher score. I wanted better for myself. In addition, One time I remember receiving on a poor grade on a paper where it was supposed to be APA format and I went along with what I knew and followed an MLA format which was familiar to me at the time. Also, a moment when citing was crucial in paper reports, I wouldn't know the format of making a bibliography or how to cite in a research paper because I saw writings like these to be foreign and complex to me. I felt these forms of writing simply gave information and didn't compare it to the writer and his thoughts. These were challenges to me in my full understanding of writing and I saw there was more to than meets the eye. I needed to become familiar with the unfamiliar and unravel the secrets they carry to allow myself to take an extent in writing in my life. My professor in my 7th grade English class told me I was failing his assignments because I was still learning and experiencing to write in a way that
In first grade, I had started reading, or that is what I recall as my first time. My stuttering problem was always there, but I was a “great reader” according to my teacher Ms. Brown. She was a kind elderly woman, who wanted to see everybody in her class succeed in reading a whole book. Then second grade came at the snap of a finger. There, I wrote my first paragraph full of “mumbo jumbo”. Even though I wrote my first paragraph in second grade, I did not learn about the writing process until high school. After I left high school, I learned that we had barely touched on the writing process due to a significant place in my life… College! In my first English class (Eng 180), my professor went over the ideas of rhetoric, the writing process, and discourse community. Since my old professor did not go in depth on these topics, meant that they were still fresh in my head with no place to stay. In English 280, we went into full detail on these topics and understood more about the meaning and purpose of them all. I know that the writing process includes brainstorming, researching, proofreading, revising, and etc.; however, I felt like I have been doing it all wrong for years. I have made many improvements to my writing due to English 280, but the skills that I improved in the most were researching and synthesizing.
My first experience with writing and reading was in the sixth grade. I wasn’t much of a good writer but was an excellent reader, I would read books, magazines, articles, almost anything that had words in it. Writing wasn’t my strongest subject I always had troubles in delivering the message or moral of the essay. Throughout my middle school years and beginning high school years I didn’t really do much writing or effort until my final year in high school. As I gave you a brief summary of my experience with writing and reading I will later on elaborate more on my experience with writing and reading and explain how this experience mad me a better writer.
Writing is a skill that is used on a daily basis in different mediums: emails, texts, academic papers, and social media platforms. While some mediums are more formal than others, writing in a proper way is still critical. For some, writing is second nature while others face difficulties constructing the perfect message. Growing up, the concept of writing was much more enjoyable than physically putting pen to paper. I found value in the idea of being able to express myself through my writing, yet when it came to academic papers, I froze. This was due to the fact that my writing was being judged, and that elicited fear which, in turn, made me second guess my writing abilities. While attending community college, I was required to take an
As continue my education I have started to overcome some of the fears I have about my writing ability. One such fear is being judged for poor work. By proofreading multiple times as well as submitting my material to the Smartthinking tutors, I can complete assignments with a level of confidence. When I proofread, I am looking through my work to find any spelling, grammar, or mechanical errors (Vandermey, 2012). I also use Grammarly and PaperRater to check my content. Utilizing all of these tools decreases the second fear I have when it comes to my writing knowledge which is fear of failure or poor grades.
Until I started graduate school, I did not write scholarly unless it was mandated. There were times I would write for administration but not often. In addition, I do not have a strong writing background which is one of the reason it took me so long to go back for my masters. Looking back on my education I do not feel that I had strong English teachers who taught me how to write, it was just an expectation. As I returned to school last year, I was afraid I would fail in the area of writing. I am a people person and prefer to make presentations over writing. However, I have found this educational journey a wonderful learning experience.
As a student. I felt very uneasy before reading it knowing that the level of difficulty would be unimaginable. Though, within the “prequel,” I was already mesmerized by the beautiful writing and kept me captive. Read with an open mind! This Fleeting World also encourages and sets up a wide variety of debates and thought experiments. Which if read within a group of students would be very lively. Thus, audience is meant for those willing to learn big things in little time. Also adding graphics of maps, illustrations of tools and quotes that become more and more relevant the more is read. It’s even better to be able to read the chapter, look at the pictures and not be left with any questions visually. A great summer read for many. A piece made
I remember when I was in elementary and I used to think the writing was pointless. Especially when FCAT was coming up and we had to write an essay twice a week. As I got older I know realize writing is not stupid at all. Writing is on the same level on knowing how to read correctly and fluently. I believe writing is important because it help you express who you are as a person. Another reason why I feel writing is so important it helps you communicate and think very effectively. Writing also is needed in every job in order to complete a task. Although there are much more reasons why writing is so important.
Ever since I remember, I have always enjoyed writing. The fact that I can be able to put together a paper and have someone get my idea just with the first paragraph is mind blowing. Sometimes I can’t express myself through speaking so writing down my thoughts on paper has always been my therapy but also an important thing in my everyday life.
Computers have done a lot of things to make my life easier but I would not like one grading my paper. There are so many important elements to writing that involve emotion that I wouldn’t trust a computer to understand. Good writing should make you feel something. Artificial intelligence has come a long way but it is exactly that, artificial. I want a human to grade my papers. Another important element of writing is your audience and if you know your teacher likes writing a certain way then you should cater to that when you are writing.
I have never viewed myself as a confident writer. When I write papers for school, I usually spend more time stressing about the paper as a whole rather than performing the actual writing. If my teacher were to ask me why I write, my reply would most likely be, “Ugh, because I have to.” But lately, I have noticed that I have spent a lot of time writing, the past few years, without the pressure of being graded. I learned that writing helps me somewhat organize my thoughts that seem to be chaotic and all over the place. I write from the deepest part of me, because I feel I have to.
In my past academic career, I have found that writing essays and papers are one of my strong points. I like writing because it allows me to write down things, and put things together that might be harder to speak then write. The most difficult thing for me about writing is having to write a paper that does not have a page limit, a topic, or relatable subject.
I’ve always loved to write. Something about creating a new world that people could just get lost in is so fulfilling. I’d find whoever I could to read my work and praise me. It’s baffling thinking that stories and pieces of writing are all just words. Words put together with capitalization, punctuation, and style. The kicker is how those words are put together though. Words put together poorly can be incomprehensible. But, words put together just right can spark interest, thought, and amazement. When I recognize a great book or even a great sentence, I appreciate how well it is put together and soak up as much knowledge as possible to better my own writing.
Since the beginning of time, I’ve always hated anything that had to do with writing or reading. Writing to me was always a chore, something that I had to do or else I would fail my classes. To add on, writing wasn’t exactly my forte, I was honestly horrendous at writing. You could give me a whole week to do a book report and I still wouldn’t be able to get it right on my 5th try. Even today, I still despise writing, the thought of not knowing what to write always lingered alongside me. I would often find myself sitting alone in my small room, listening to music and not knowing what to write; I would begin typing out a few sentences, then ultimately backspacing every word because it may not be “ good enough”. This whole typing and

Entering into a Composition class has proven that I know a lot less about writing than I had originally been aware of. With being four weeks into the class, I now realize I have already learned a lot of information about grammar, sentence structuring and transitions. When my first paper came back graded and did not meet my expectations, that was when I knew I had much more effort and research to put into my writing abilities. From there, I spent a lot of time researching; revising and building paper number two.
