The Jeffersonian democracy was named after Thomas Jefferson from 1790’s to the 1820’s. It was used to refer to the Republican Party. Jefferson founded the opposition to the Federalist Party of Alexander Hamilton. Democratic-Republicans brought politics to the people in a different way than they have ever seen before. The Federalist never grasped the concept of going out and politicking to gain more votes. They were not assertive enough to draw the attention of the people to get their vote. Jefferson actually bent the rules and created the Louisiana Purchase when he pushed to purchase New Orleans from France. When they went to purchase it, he was told by the French emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte, expressed he not only wanted to sell New Orleans,
