In this particular coursework of the new media course, the instruction was to make a 60 seconds news video. The news was to be shot by me and I could report any news of my choice. It took me quite some time to understand the requirement for the course work and another great deal of time to come up with a concept for my video. I decided to check Google to see if I could get some concepts from 60 seconds news online. I saw a lot of news samples though but then it hit me that I would have to design a logo and also have to add effects to the video. This is where I actually thought to myself that I would find it tasking and challenging, because I have never shot a video before or actually used video editing software. During my next lab I asked the teacher how I could go about shooting my video. He put me through and told me the basic things I needed to know about shooting a video like using a good camera and a good voice recorder. He also told me I should do a story board which is like the blueprint of a video showing the scenes and the flow of the video. Later that day I went home having the course work on my mind thinking about what to make news on, I asked some of my friends for ideas because I couldn’t think of any at that moment. Few days passed and yet no idea on what to report in my news I got worried cause the spring break was fast approaching and I needed to have my video done before then because I had plans. Then it then hit me that I could do a news report on
Explain the role of capitalism in the 100-year growth of Nederlander Concerts. How does Nederlander benefit from each of the fundamental rights of capitalism?
The first five weeks of this assignment nobody within my group was willing to make an actaul effort outside of class to make time to film and organise how we would approach this assignment. Leaving me to do basically all of the work from ideas, shot lists and organising everyone to meet and film, while Nick (Nicholas Aw) did some of the filming on his own I was left to do 90% of the moving camera work as Lahi and Anna disapeared for a solid hour during filming after returning the Dolly equiptment. From there I edited the assignment together as I’d originally offered to do the editing as I have the Final Cut Pro software on my Laptop. The entire group came up with the idea for the assingment and how we would approach it after we agreed on the idea. Production wise that Role went to myself as I took lead in the group and organised times and shot lists. However, after an chat and email to Louise after class, I stepped back as discussed, but still I have had to find out if anyone was doing any work and doing a small amount of editing and trying to explain that this assignment was about incorporating the moving camera technique not narrative and this has not really been done in the final assignment as the majority of the assignment footage is still shots.
assassination challenged TV executives to basically invent live TV news and figure out the technology needed to produce remote-live coverage to meet the television audience’s new expectations. When news of J.F.K. assassination was received by the TV stations, they were not prepared to cover live-breaking news. “Up until that weekend in Dallas, what people saw was the finished news product – the edited story and the cropped photo in their newspapers, or the packaged stories that appeared on television,’ said long time CBS journalist Bob Schiefer.” (Barney, C., 2016, August 12) After watching the shooting of accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald on live television, there was a huge cultural shift in how people wanted to experience the news. The television audiences’ expectations shifted from being a passive receiver of news to an active observer of the events, where they did not have to rely on someone else’s interpretation of the
“Sam Ross, age 46, with a height of 6”3… um- Sam R-ross was uh…” The anchor was stuttering, reading the lines double, looking back from the camera man to the script as if he was asking if he’s getting lines right or not. He cleared his throat again, allowing a disgusting noise emerge from his throat along with it. He straightened his tie and faced the camera once more- apparently this ‘breaking news’ is ‘as soon as we got here we started filming news’
There are people who think that older adults are not capable of learning new information because of the number of neurons in their brain decline as they age. In the PBS video “Stealing Time”, the old cage potato rats were given a change of scene with an enriched environment and the results were that their dendrites grew and made new synaptic connections where there were none before. These rats were better on future tasks than the old rats that were not given a change of scene. When older adults are doing a task in a laboratory setting they are less efficient at processing the information presented to them and their reaction time is slower. “Older adults show more brain activity between the prefrontal cortex and the medial temporal lobe than

"Journalism isn't just writing," Clara said to the student audience, describing the 'wide scope' of tasks in her typical day. From flicking through social media, keeping up with gossip, and compiling opinions on a recent trend, Clara has a range of articles to present to her readers.
In today’s society, many road accidents and deaths are often caused by the same reason. The reason being that mostly teens, as well as adults, have created a habit of texting while they’re driving. A film by Werner Herzog, “From One-Second To The Next,” is a documentary against texting while driving. This film documents the testimonies of four individuals who's lives have been affected by texting and driving.

I love this video because the reporters are young students and former President Obama delivers information in a professional and relatable manner. This video helps students make meaningful connections to what they learned in the text to their own lives. After students watch
I have taken and loved a variety of my media classes here at Ball State University. I have taken courses in video production, audio production, news production, copywriting, scriptwriting, newswriting, interviewing, reporting, photography, graphic design, media analysis, and media law. I have really enjoyed getting familiar with all of the different journalism, telecommunications, and news departments at Ball State University, and have aspects of each program that I enjoy. Although many of my classes have been very challenging and time-consuming, I am not discouraged. Instead, I feel as though I am more excited graduate, get my degree in Telecommunications with a Concentration in News Production, and start a career in the industry. Even though some of my required courses have been for print media, I have enjoyed my courses for broadcast media more. I feel like there are aspects of video and audio media that can’t be told in writing, and that is why I am working to get into
After watching the PBS Frontline films, I wanted to see what information there is about bipolar and what do people think cause it. What I found was that doctors do not really know what causes it, but they do believe that it seems to run in families and how it could partly be caused by the brain circuits and neurotransmitters having problems. There are three chemicals in the brain, which are noradrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine, that are involved with the function of the body and the brain (Webmd). When anyone of these are damaged it can result in the person having mental or mood disorders. There have been studies that show that people who have certain genes can get bipolar disorder and pass them on to their family. There has also been research
I am taking Cinema 111 because it is a requirement to fulfill for my minor in Communications for Media. The skills that I had before taking this class in the spring was taking pictures and recording videos on an iPhone as well as a digital camera. I also know a little about the iMovie program on the MacBook Pro. I had to make a video using the program for one of my classes in the past as well as help a friend out to create her movie for a class recently. iMovie allowed me to learn a little bit about editing videos. I learned how to include background music with the dialogue playing after the shots were recorded. I learned how to crop out parts of the video that was not needed. I learned how to enter text within the video. I learned how to make a smooth transition from one scene to another. Finally, I learned how to put an introduction and an ending scene to the video.
In the video of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, John Oliver discusses the problem of mass incarceration in the United States. He starts by talking about the extremely large prison population in America. According to Oliver America has a larger prison population than China despite having a much smaller overall population. In fact America has the largest prison population in the entire world. He then discusses how the prison population is mostly populated with minorities and that whites are extremely underrepresented in prisons. Oliver talks about how the prison population has grown eight times larger since 1970 and of that population 50% of the people in federal prisons and 25% of people in state prisons are there for a drug related crime. Oliver continues the discussion by talking about the general lack of public concern for prisoners. He uses clips from television shows as examples of how popular culture uses prison as a joke and does not take it seriously specifically when talking about sexual assault in prisons. He then shows another clip of the Director of Federal Prisons not knowing how big a solitary confinement cell is to point out that even the people in charge of prisons seem not to care about them. Oliver’s next talking point is about prisons becoming privatized and companies like Aramark and the Geo who care more about the profit of the companies than the prisoners they take care of. He ends the segment by summarizing that the conditions
What was astonishing was not the rapidity of the news- that is, after all, the beauty of modern broadcasting technology- but the effect that the news had on the public. In the following weeks and months, story after story demonstrated the
