The book, The Midnight Zoo by Sonya Hartnett is a fable. Hartnett weaves a story about two Romani boys who find themselves in a zoo, which has talking animals. One of its most essential themes, even more so than freedom, is trust. The last line of The Midnight Zoo emphasises this, as the eagle trusts who he sees is Alice. Hartnett expresses the importance of trust by showing how it can impact us and make us peaceful with ourselves. Hartnett builds on the theme of trust by effectively using the primary and secondary antagonists and protagonists. She uses the animals, the three children, and Alice to emphasise her point about trust. Hartnett delves into the true meaning of trust in many ways – through her characters, especially our protagonists, Andrej and Tomas; different themes in the book, including bravery, loyalty, and love; and Hartnett emphasises the importance of trust through the different symbols and motifs she uses in The Midnight Zoo. …show more content…
“No,” he said stolidly, “I mustn’t” which clearly conveys that Andrej is firm in his views; that he doesn’t trust the lioness, “…And suddenly…belongs to me!”” Which shows that Andrej is probably scared; like all of us has gotten at one point in time; of the lioness and is frenzied, showing that he is panicking. It also shows that Andrej has a sense of ownership toward Wilma, and a sense of responsibility, and doesn’t trust many other people with Wilma. His giving of the baby to the lioness shows that he has managed to trust the lioness; and the lioness not mauling or hurting Wilma makes them gain a closer bond, which is fuelled by trust. It also shows that giving the baby to the lioness has made her more peaceful with herself; has made her more content and has freed her

The Night Circus written by Erin Morgenstern depicts the tale of two lovers bound by a challenge that forces them to compete against each other. It is a romantic tale, from which the reader can develop a strong sense of emotion with the two lovers. Morgenstern uses the character Bailey to demonstrate the ideas of, love, passion vs obsession and magic in this novel. She engages the reader with an exciting story line and uses a lot of symbolism.
The film, Crazy Stupid Love starts off right away with Emily telling Cal that she wants a divorce. Feeling rather depressed, Cal turns to the bar scene to find some comfort and someone to listen to his sorrowful life story. Jacob, an expert on how to talk to and pick up women, feels sorry for Cal and decides to help him rediscover his manhood. Through doing this, Cal gains all sorts of confidence that he never knew he had, but also realizes that he misses his wife as well. There are a couple other sub-plots within the main storyline of the movie, and all of them have one thing in common, love. Love is the undisputed underlying theme of the movie. If you weren’t able to tell by the title of the film,
London’s novella Call of the Wild tells the story of Buck’s transformation from a domesticated pet on a vast Santa Clara Valley estate to the primal beast he becomes in the bitter regions of the Klondike wilderness. London delivers Buck’s journey in several key plot events and uses various settings and narration styles to tell the story in a way that allows a reader to easily become invested in Buck’s character and well-being from the viewpoint of a loyal and lovable pet, as well as, that of a creature returning to its primal roots and ancestry. Settings in Call of the Wild consist of generally harsh and vicious locations, situations previously unknown to Buck, and various hostile persons and dogs. As well as a variety of settings, London
Theme: “For a start, the very young are necessarily self-centred. What do they care for the tragic or untidy lives of their neighbours? Their primary business is survival, and their preoccupation is with those who help them to survive. Of course their business is also learning about the world around them-hence the boundless curiosity of young animals…” (Page 122)
Hearne’s approach to pathos engages her audience’s emotions towards animals and their rights. “I might say, ‘leave her alone, she’s my daughter’ or ‘that’s what she wants, and she is my daughter. I think I am bound to honor what she wants’ (Page 681). This quotes appeals to the audience’s
Jonathan is a ten- year- old boy, who loves animals so much, that he imagines himself inside of their bodies. He cherishes the time that he spends at the Alaska Zoo, where his father is a zookeeper. When Jonathan goes to the zoo, he is always looking forward to seeing his favourite animal, Mama Goose. There is something special that Jonathan sees in that goose that makes her the best from the rest, even though she is just a regular, loud and obnoxious goose. Jonathan’s Father is the zookeeper at the Alaska Zoo. That is one reason why Jonathan gets to go to the Zoo so many times, is because his father works there. He is a very responsible man. If something goes wrong at the Zoo during the night, you should go looking for him. Jonathan also has a very tenacious relationship with his Father. Even though he never wanted to go to school, his Father would always make him go because he cared about Jonathan’s education. In order to get a good job, you need to have a good education. Trouble, is a meager brown bear cub. At the beginning of the book, Trouble lived in a den with his Mother. When spring came, Trouble’s Mother found a mate, which she chose over Trouble. Eventually, Trouble’s Mother was getting annoyed with Trouble, and sent him away. Ever since then, Trouble lived a miserable life. No shelter, little food, and he was lonely.
In Night, cruelty is demonstrated because people are treated inhumanely and constantly exposed to death, so they lose the ability to act like a good person. They stole food from their family and people who they live with. The second one would be that when Elie Wiesel first arrives at Auschwitz the Jews ripped them out of the cattle cars and if they did not come out they would be shot on the spot. The Gestapo were cruel to save themselves.
The book Wildlife by Cynthia Defelice is an outstanding book. It is a fiction book which means that it did not happen in real life. This is about a kid named Erik that found out his mom and dad had to get shipped to a foreign country to serve and fight for their country. He must go live with his grandma and grandpa for a long time. He does not want to go but his parents have nowhere else to send him. A dog then shows up at Erik’s grandmas steps and Erik wants to keep it. He then runs away with the dog and goes hunting with it and his grandma and grandpa worry about him very much. He then comes back to the house after being out so long and the dog’s owner comes back and gets the dog.
Trust is something that is built over time but can be broken in a matter of seconds. Christopher and his father have a very tempestuous relationship that changes over the course of the novel. In the novel, the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon Christopher's father tries to regain Christopher’s love and trust after he loses it, due to a number of problems that he causes while trying to protect his son that he loves very much. Christopher John Francis Boone, the protagonist, struggles to figure out what his feelings are towards his father as he tries to forgive him for the problems he has caused in his life. Throughout the novel, their trust is tested, as they try to conquer different obstacles that are a result of
Life is beautiful is a 1997 Italian tragicomedy drama film, directed and starring Roberto Benigni. The film narrated a World War 2 story in where a jewish father named Guido Orefice ’s family was captured into a jewish concentration camp, however he employed his fertile imagination, and manage to shield his son Joshua from the horrors of the camp and sacrificed himself to ensure Joshua and Dora--his wife’s survivals. Furthermore, these concepts prove that Matthee’s narrative displays how wildlife mirrors the inner soul and emotions of humans. By using the symbol of animals such as elephants, ostriches, nightjars, and rain
The topic that I plan to write about is how the distinction between "human" and "animal" has blurred and altered. This topic reveals the control and domination that are innate to animal and human which obscures the role of characters. Animals share traits with humans in genetics, affection, and behaviors that all make them similar to each other. The narrative text I plan to use as my focus is "The Veldt" where kids addict to the fantasy world and kill their biological parent to save and permanently live with lions. The intimate relationship between kids and lions has overthrown the conventional human role where animal replaces the existence of the parent and eats them in their house. From the text, it reveals the manipulation from lions to
In this novel the parallel story line that is set eighty years later talks about what life is like for ninety year old Jacob. Over the course of the two days the circus is coming to town, and the old man end up running away with it much like he did when he was younger. In the end this book it about loyalty, social classes, and love, but not so much about elephants. It is a good book, and not only is it a New York Time Bestseller,
I have never considered that a book about a dog could be so appealing and full of deep thoughts. But I changed my viewpoint after reading the autobiographical novel “Marley & Me” written by John Grogan which depicts an astonishing story about the neurotic and loyal, clumsy and loving dog named Marley. In fact, as the author mentioned in some interviews, he intended to write the “dog story”, but soon after he realized that it was impossible to do so without including the family life [2]. That is why the title “Marley & Me” encapsulates the main topic of the book such as the relationship between a human and a pet. To start with let me introduce main characters: John, Jenny, and Marley.
