The mysterious Jellicle cats with the glowing yellow eyes prowled slowly through the aisles of the audience under the glimmering full moon, starting the performance off with an eerie yet intriguing beginning. The musical I watched was CMT Mainstage’s performance of Cats, Les Chats cast. This famous show composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber is the second longest running musical on Broadway, and it is based on T. S. Eliot’s conglomeration of poems, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. Each musical number is the story of a different cat. Since it is based on an assortment of rhymes, Cats doesn’t have a single obvious lead role but instead relies heavily upon ensemble singing and large group dance numbers. There was very little spoken dialogue, but the storyline was beautifully communicated nevertheless. The story begins with many felines coming onstage and singing about the tribe of the Jellicle cats. The kitties of this group meet annually so that Old Deuteronomy can determine which cat will soar off to Heaviside Layer and return to a new life. A sleek white cat named Victoria announces the invitation to the Jellicle ball in a grand musical number. One by one, the cats present themselves to be chosen to ascend to Heaviside Layer with Old Deuteronomy, their leader. First of all, there is Jennyanydots, the old Gumbie cat. She slumbers and reclines all day long, growing plump on massive helpings of food. Next, the suave and pompous tomcat known as the Rum Tum Tugger, bursts onto
The storyteller begins the story by stating from an early age he has had an obsession with animals. Poe states, “This peculiarity of character grew with my growth, and, in my manhood, I derived from it one of my principal sources of pleasure.” (Poe) This statement is evidence of the insanity the narrator experienced at a very young age. He goes on to explain that he and his wife have many domesticated animals, including Pluto, a large beautiful black cat. He describes the mutual fondness between him and the cat. This relationship between him and the cat, is strange. For years they have a growing friendship, until he started drinking alcohol in excess. The narrator goes on to explain how one night after getting completely intoxicated, the cat panicked and bit him. This causes the author to become angry and in a psychotic fit of rage, he takes a knife and cuts out one of the cat’s eyes. After this encounter, the cat fears him, and tries to avoid him at all cost. In the beginning, the storyteller is regretful and feels remorseful for the cruelty. But soon we see the narrator’s insanity expressed when Poe states, “But this feeling soon gave place
The film called “The Cats of Mirikitani,” describes the story of a man named Jimmy Mirikitani. Jimmy was born in Sacramento, California in 1920. He was raised and educated in Hiroshima Japan. He came back to the United States in order to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. Unfortunately, in 2001, he ended up living in the streets of New York. In order to survive, he used to sell his paintings. Those paintings showed his love for cats and illustrated his experiences through life such as: his childhood in Hiroshima, Pearl Harbor and WWII camps. During WWII he denied his American Citizenship but years later, he got his citizenship back. However, he never received the letter to inform him that he was again an American citizen. On September 11, after the terrorist attack of the World Trade Center, a woman named Linda decided to invite Jimmy to her apartment, so he had a safe place to stay. Linda had been filming Jimmy’s art for a while. However, after she decided to bring him to her apartment, She started to become more involved in his life
Many people think it is just about a cat trying to have fun but it is not. It is about the chaos that is going on in the world around them. Dr.Seuss was known to bring situations to life in his stories and that is what he did just here. Not only does this story teach children on how to rebel against their parents and not pay attention to any of the rules it also says that to a point children should listen and have certain traditions with in their family.
Lin morphs into the Feline -- a cat/human hybrid. Sleek, yet prowling. Elegant, yet deadly. She jumps out the window and takes off into the city.
In conclusion, the main comedy used in the passage is wordplay, as this is seen many times. The story also uses hyperboles to exaggerate the very stretched truth of cats. After the cat makes a daring escape once again, the room is destroyed. This causes the passage to say, “Replace the shattered figurines you bought on eBay.” It seems like they took only a quick mental note, as the cat is the center of the universe.
Arsenic And Old Books is the sixth book in the A Cat In The Stacks Mystery series.
Puffy ventures further and further investigating all the new things surrounding him and stumbles among quite a bit. Unbeknownst to Puffy, cats are not always, what they seem. In some cases, it may not even be a cat and this is where humor rears its head in this book. Puffy meets a new 'friend' that helps in teaching him this lesson. The message overall is good with the intention of teaching children not to venture off alone. Puffy surely learns how this was a mistake. Even my young ones were able to decipher the key lesson here so that they can apply
“Broken Cats,” a photo by Britta Jaschinski, overwhelms with sorrow and heartbreak. The black and white photograph depicts three cats sitting on their own stools. Two men, on either side of the cats, hold up sticks; it seems as if the cats are being trained by the two men. The focal point of the photograph, the lines, and the need for closure allow one to better understand the dark photograph. The focal point of the photograph-- the three cats-- convey the feeling of sorrow.
The Carnival is a magical place of magic to puppets. This show opens with the character Jacquot playing "Love Makes the World Go Round" on a concertina to the audience. It should be noted that the actor, Keegan Tucker, in the role of Jacquot, did not actually play the concertina. The music from the instrument was played over the audio system while the actor pantomimed playing the song. The show continued with each carnival actor and actress showing off their skills in the opening act.

In the beginning, the narrator gave a confession in retrospect; he was an honorable man born as a sane, kind, loving. Additionally, he had a great love for animals. He married a girl at a young age. Their house was like a mini zoo; birds, gold fish, a dog, rabbits, a small monkey, and a cat. The man singles out a huge, beautiful all-black cat as his favorite, named Pluto. Because of its unusual intelligence, the wife jokes around that the cat might be a witch in disguise. Over the course of time, the narrator and Pluto created a strong bond between them.
Description: William Shakespeare referred to the myth “A cat has nine lives” in his play Romeo and Juliet, which arguably came from cats’ ability to always land on their feet. The biped of ancient Egypt was fascinated by the feline arts of swiftness and tenacity for their remarkable survivals from high falls. In this short, interesting talk, Leon shares the science behind these amazing skills of cats.

The first stanza focuses on the tigers and creates an impression of majesty and power, such as with their ‘sleek chivalric certainty’ (l.4). In psychology and literature, ‘the symbol of the cat was related to the redemption of something feminine’ , and so Rich’s use of the tigers as a predatorial and strong member of the cat family demonstrates Aunt Jennifer’s internal power that derives from her being a woman. The word ‘chivalric’ is traditionally associated with knights and military prowess, and Rich subverts this typically male adjective to the feminine tigers and their representation of Aunt Jennifer’s inner strength (l.4).
