The nature of inner peace is complex and multifaceted. Peace is not merely the absence of hostility, violence or war but encompasses a larger concept whereby inner peace is attained. Peace begins with individual awareness and personal response to the teachings of the religious traditions. An individual’s understanding of peace is expressed through the principal teachings drawn from the sacred texts of Christianity and Islam that is, the New Testament and the Quran respectively. These teachings guide individuals in achieving inner peace and hence through this allow them to contribute to world peace.
Initially, a Christian adherent’s understanding of Peace is informed through the sacred writings within the New Testament. Jesus, the prince of peace challenged people to live the essence of the law rather than just an outward show of religious observance. As stated in Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”. Jesus’ use of Shalom, goes beyond the absence of war as it emphasises the need for harmony in relationships which result in God’s blessing. This idea is reinforced in Matthew 5:43-45 “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…God makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous”. This teaching targets the challenge for many adherents in that Jesus stated people should not take revenge on others,to maintain outer and inner peace. Hence, the New Testament are an
First, this book will guide me to embrace the world as it is. It is written in English, so it may not be same as written by the each religion leaders. Although this book travels freely from Eastern to Western and forth and back to reflect various perspectives, it will help me to see different aspects of the world through others' eyes. Having this kind of view will expand my mind to new things and deepen the understanding the matters.
Albert Einstein once said “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” This is an extremely powerful quote, and I will seek to convey its strength, as applied to our lives as Christians, upon the careful review of Sandra L. Richter’s The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament. Richter designed this text as merely a tool by which we might further our understanding of the Old Testament narrative. With one minor glitch in her system, Richter handled the task as that of an expert in the field would - with patience, attention to central detail, and arresting
This initially comes as something of a shock when one considers the common paradigm of Jesus as a figure of peace who only preaches forgiveness and nonviolence. One of the most interesting parables in the Gospel of Luke which contradicts this paradigm is one which describes a steward who is physically violent towards the servants of his master’s estate. Commenting on this story, and referring to the abusive steward, Jesus promises that “his master [God] will come on a day he does not expect and … will cut him off and send him to the same fate as the unfaithful” (12. 45-46). Adding to this, Jesus then continues with, “I have come to bring fire to the earth. Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on, a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three” (12. 51-52). This quote by Jesus firstly implies that the violence of the steward toward the servants is unjustified. This implication comes from the vow that God will punish the steward for his violence. In his article titled “Christian Pharisees and the Scandalous Ethics of Jesus,” Patrick Colm Hogan writes that, in this parable, “the steward clearly represents the earthly rulers, both spiritual

Analyse using sacred scripture and a variety of sources the principle teachings about peace in Judaism and Christianity and how these teachings impact on the life of each adherent’s tradition, as a means of achieving inner peace.
Insecurities and the lack of confidence are more destructive than they may seem at first glance; they both gradually rot away at peoples’ sense of self, and poison their thoughts and emotions with negativity. However harmful and seemingly uncontrollable these states may be, constant perseverance and taking the steps to overcome weaknesses can render them harmless. In A Separate Peace by John Knowles, Gene overcomes his overpowering insecurities, smallness of self, and jealousy in a deadly struggle against his own twisted human nature. Gene arrives at Devon full of insecurities and no true sense of self.
The message given by Jesus and the apostles is resoundingly clear. Whether our conflicts involve minor irritations or major legal issues, God is eager to display his love and power through us as we strive to maintain peace and unity with those around us. Our dependence on him and obedience to this call will show the power of the gospel and enable me to enjoy the personal peace that God gives to those who faithfully follow him.
“A Separate Peace” is more than just a book about war and stressful times. It is about maturation; in the case of Gene and Phineas, this couldn’t be truer. The two best friends who attend Devon Boarding School have to deal with a stressful time in their lives, growing up and having responsibilities, and the looming idea that draft age is not far. Throughout the book, the two go through a chain of events leading to loss of innocence, building up anger and stress, and eventually: accepting the reality of the situation. Their lives, dreams and ideals won’t be same afterwords.
Some Christians believe achieving peace means rejecting the use of violence. Christians who hold this reject this view focus on Jesus teaching on ’love thy neighbor’, even when Jesus faced his own enemies (the Romans) Jesus gave himself up to death. Also, when Jesus own follower slices off an ear of a servants, Jesus heals the ear of a servant and criticizes his follower for using violence to interfere with God’s plan. This shows that Jesus used pacifism instead of violence and that means all Christians should be

Law and order is a synonym for peace; however often to obtain peace law and order must be broken. Though this is true, peace is not all encompassing. Not only can peace can be found in some parts of life and lacking in others, but peace has many types that affect each part of daily life. A Separate Peace by John Knowles explores the relationship between external and internal peace. When external societal peace is disrupted people become willing to commit a kind of suicide by breaking the rules in an effort to obtain inner peace.
