I wake up to screams in the night time. Screams I’ve never heard before in times of war. No no. This was much worse. I hear my friend come in my room and wake me up. “We are under attack. I go outside to see no other than the Trojans themselves attacking us in the ruins of Athens. They had come from Troy. There was havoc as I watch my brothers die by flaming arrows and gruesome impalement. I’ve never seen this before; I scream and pray to the gods to make it stop and I immediately wake up in my adobe quarters and realize it was just a nightmare. It was early in the morning so I decided not to fall back asleep in fear that my fears will come alive once again.
Time passes. I do my normal routine. I meet my Warchief and he says he has an assignment for me. A special assignment. He hands me a letter with all the details. I go into a private area and read it. It says in big bold letters on the top,
“Call to Arms!
Wolfgang,
You’ve been chosen to go into the Underworld and retrieve the Corrupted Ashbringer sword for Achilles. This sword is legendary and is the only thing that can end a war like this one. At this point in time you need to go immediately to Achilles for details.
Good Luck.
Hector.”
I immediately head to Piraeus just outside of Athens where Achilles is.
I stumble across Hercules on my way to meet Achilles.
I tell Hercules my quest. He tells me that he will help me. Hercules and I head Piraeus to meet Achilles. Once we arrive at Piraeus we meet with Achilles he
The next day they send sent me out the battlefield to look for the enemy's hideout. Guns, bombs can be seen everywhere. I can't believe this is really happening. My hands, knees, every inch of my body is trembling. After a long day of search, we have no luck finding it. We finished eating dinner and ready to sleep. Volunteers can't stay at night in the field because we're inexperienced. I reach my bunk bed and saw an envelope. I opened it up and it was a letter from Jackson. It says that my family got attacked and they had found one body of a woman and a body of a kid identifying as my mother and my sister. I questioned myself if it was really a good idea leaving them. I am frustrated at Jackson where was he when they got attack he didn't do anything to help them, but I shouldn’t blame him it’s all my fault. They're gone everyone's gone, now I have more reason why we should win, I don't care if I survive or not. I have no one to return to. I crumble the paper and shove it in my bag, and slept. We continued searching here and there, but nothing ever comes. For about a week now one of my comrades got a clue where they’re might be hiding. The army formed a surprise attack. Tomorrow we're gonna launch the
The Trojan men’s kelios (honor and reputation) would be highly boosted if they were the one to slay great Achilles, dear to Zeus. Despite knowing that the armor would put a bullseye on his head, Patroclus implores Achilles to give Achilles’ fine armor as Patroclus cares more about the greater picture of the war rather than his own selfish desires. Welding Achilles’ armor, Patroclus successfully repels the wave of Trojan warriors back to the trenches of Troy.
Achilles bears down upon Hector for the last fight of one of their lives. The Greeks and Trojans have been at war for a long time and the for the first time since the war has started the greatest warriors of both sides are about to clash in a one on one battle that the gods themselves are taking part in influencing the outcome of it. After Hector killed Achilles best friend Patroclus, Achilles has been out to avenge him by killing Hector and showing him the same courtesy that he showed Patroclus when he killed him by leaving him where the dogs and buzzards could pick at him, and he would never get the burial necessary for him to move on into the afterlife. Achilles hunting Hector down proves that even the most ruthless of Greek warriors can show compassion towards a friend.
‘Hubris’, considered as the only sin for ancient Greeks, is trying to break the holy and sacred order of the cosmos. For Achilles, his arête consists of attaining his maximum potential, a potential he believes to be grater than a simple mortal; therefore he acts as a god. By thinking he is a god, Achilles attains ‘Hubris’, and the consequence for the act of ‘Hubris’ is ‘Nemesis’. Achilles’ Nemesis, a deep and hard pain, is the death of one of the few men he shared compassion and true friendship. At the battlefield, Patroclus has been killed by the Trojan prince Hector. Achilles’ nemesis, the death of Patroclus, is a significant pain for Achilles because he realizes that he is responsible for his friend’s death. In addition, Achilles’ nemesis reminds him of a fundamental truth: He is not a god. Achilles realizes that he is dependent on the men who surround him, and he accepts his own death. In fact, by heading back to the war and deciding to revenge his friend’s memory by killing Hector, Achilles faces his own death. However, his rage and anger remain; in fact it is only transferred from Agamemnon to Hector and the Trojans. So, Achilles heads back to the battlefield and his strength is now greater than before, causing the gods to intervene in the war because “he (Achilles) will raze the wall against the will of fate” according to Zeus.
I reached down deep into my mind and dragged myself into reality. Back into this hell hole. I focused on my surroundings, i saw the soldiers loading the injured man onto a stretcher. I looked around and my gaze was then abruptly locked on to someone. He was staring in my direction, but it was like he was looking right through me at something behind me. His eyes were full of madness, like he'd had seen the devil. His smile.. It was unusually wide and his teeth were stained with brown and black muck. His expression was so animated like a cartoon, he didn’t move, didn't blink. His breathing was light but it hissed through his teeth. A soldier picked him up and guided him somewhere with no resistance. A soldier must have seen the confusion on my face.
The building was empty when suddenly I my leg was grabbed , I reacted fast and pulled out my trench knife and jerked my leg away from the grasp of the hand, but I looked down at the now wet street only to see one of the men who I shot but apparently never ended, he crawled to me gasping for air as his throat filled with the blood from the wound in his neck, I looked into his eyes that filed with blood and at that moment the soldier said “ Please….p p p please help me…..(cough,cough) I…..I have a wife and daughter.” I faced a decision at that time, the monster who am or the monster that they say I am. I grasped the man in between my arms and brought him closer to my body, I whispered a prayer that my mother taught me when i was a child,”Father..forgive those who have forsaken me and forgive those who have forsaken you.” The soldier's tears of blood ran down my uniform, as I pierced his heart with my blade. I lay him down on the path and as he drew his last breath, he thanked me. The shed door creaked slowly as i peered into the warm and sheltered air that was hiding from the storm. The General stood there in his dark grey coat, covered in badges and symbols, a beacon of authority to all the soldiers under his influence. I tried to silence
Rion calmed from his night terror easily, and he and Percival went back to sleep. When morning arrived, Rion shot out of bed with a grin, full of his typical energy. He had no memory of his tears and screaming the previous night, which was just as well; the boy deserved peace after all the heartache he had weathered.
“Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Jove fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another.”
His call comes from Odysseus to go along with them to fight the greatest war of all time. The Trojan War, that will always be remembered. He told them that he was not going to fight for Agamemnon and wasn't sure if he wanted to go. After going to see his mother whom is his mentor. She tells Achilles, that this war will be always remembered and it will be a tremendous fight.
This particular passage implies that young Achilles has given up his youthful days and is after a merciless revenge on Agamemnon. His immediate refusal of rejoining the battle is a indication of a more mature viewpoint in comparison to his childish tactics in the beginning of The Iliad.
“Travel to Sparta young man, and there you will see a creature of evil descent. He was sent by a bribed Hades to defeat the Spartans. If the Athenians win, Hades will have the object that will bring my downfall. For twenty six years this beast has caused damage. I have finally found someone who can stop it. You are strong, swift and intelligent and with your sword you shall slay the monster. Go now, there is not much time before the Spartans are defeated.”
As we hopped into the waiting military trucks to the cheers of the other soldiers, I felt a sought of fulfilment. Sean led us in a military styled version Psalm 23. We all recited it with more vigour and enthusiasm. As we journeyed further into the war zone, gunshot sounds, RPG’s and grenades rented the air. I already had cold feet, and deep down in my mind, I wished it
The myth of Achilles is captured in Homer’s ‘Iliad’. At birth, Achilles was taken to the River Styx where he was dipped into the river of immortality to protect him from the evils of life. He was held by the tendon on his ankle known as the ‘Achilles heel’, which became the only part of him that was vulnerable.
He agonizes over the death of his cousin, Patroclus. Patroclus leads the hunting group of companions of Achilles to war allowing Hector to kill Patroclus. Achilles falls into his abyss and goes out and kills Hector in the shadow. This battle between a good and evil is Achilles’ Fall which sinks him into a lower state of mind. He disrespects him and the city of Troy. He knows he has done wrong after his conversation with King Priam. He mends his wrongs by bringing Hector back to Troy for a proper burial. The loss of Patroclus makes Achilles go mad, but in the end he learns to savor the time he has with loved
The war was moving fast and we have to move faster. I ran towards the door, and looked at my sword. When I started to reach for I stopped and grabbed my scythe. When I reached outside there was three men surrounding some women. I yelled to leave her alone and when they turned around they laughed due to the scythe. I yelled again then one man charged at me with a sword slicing through the wind.
