Although a sociologist can look at Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch that Stole Christmas in all three of the major theoretical perspectives, the main one expressed is symbolic interactionism. The Grinch that Stole Christmas is a story about a “who” who was not considered to be part of their “whoville” society due to the fact that he not only looked different from the rest of the people, but he acted in different ways than their norms. The story is merely about how the Grinch hates the “whos,” because of how they treated him; until, a little girl named Cindy Lou Who gains a curiosity for the Grinch and wants to give him another chance to be a part of their society. Throughout the story both of the main characters develop a deep connection to each other. Upon viewing the story from a symbolic interaction perspective view, I discovered how the story thematically symbolizes an important part of Christmas by giving people another chance; meanwhile, focusing on the relationship between the main two characters help them regain faith, and while the setting symbolizes their society’s purpose.

Psychoanalysis by definition, “is a psychological and psycho therapeutic theory conceived in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud (McLeod 1). According to Freud, psychoanalysis deals with the concepts of death, sex, and violence. In dealing with psychoanalysis, he determines that there are three parts of the unconscious mind, the ego, the superego, and the id.

I believe that The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie because the main events occur in Halloween town. For example, when the kids steal Santa, they take him to Halloween town to show Jack how clever they are to capture him. Santa stays in Halloween town so he can not continue Christmas. When the kids send Santa down the chute, he meets the Oogie Boogie man. He starts singing a song, which are important in this movie because they can give information about a character.

The Nightmare Before Christmas starts off in a town that the movie revolves around the whole movie, which is Halloweentown. In this town, they have a “Pumpkin King,” who is the ruler of the town, and his name is Jack Skellington. Jack begins to feel bored of the same old holiday they have every year, Halloween, and he soon stumbles upon trees that are decorated with symbols for each holiday. Jack is intrigued by the door that has a bright green christmas tree on it decorated with little painted-on ornaments. He opens the door and falls into the tree and gets transported into Christmasland. He explores the small land that he was pulled into, and then he returns home to tell his town about the place that he has just discovered. He tells them that they are going to make their own Christmas. The town teamed up and worked on making terrifying toys to bring “joy” to the children and to give Santa a year off. Jack sent 3 kids, Shock, Lock, and Barrel, to kidnap Santa and keep him safe while they were delivering presents to the kids of the world. Sally, who has always secretly admired Jack, told him she had a bad vision that stealing Christmas was a terrible idea, but Jack didn't listen. Jack finally got on his sleigh with his skeletal reindeer and rode off into the night delivering presents. With the season, sounding the holiday spirit, the movie that I have chosen to analyze a character that depict a personality disorder and, “enduring patterns of experience and behavior that differ greatly from the norm and the expectations of the individual’s social group”, is Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The character’s behavior that I will be examining is the Grinch and the personality disorder that he acquires to exhibit is anti-social personality disorder. Anti-social personality disorder is one of the four disorders consider appearing dramatic, emotional, and unpredictable. As a person with anti-social personality disorder they tend to not care about other people’s feeling showing little remorse, along with aggressive behaviors. Generally, individuals start showing signs of this disorder early on in childhood as early as six years old, and include symptoms of impulsivity, behavioral problems, callous social attitudes, and lack of feeling for others. Antisocial personality disorder implies that the person does not conform to social norms and tend to little or no respect for the law.

The second spirit helped Ebenezer Scrooge recognize how what he has been doing has had an impact in other peoples life. When the frightening third spirit came and showed him his future and others futures, he discovers about himself and how people didn’t care that he died. When we read A Christmas Carol, we learn that it can have many different themes that can be a very important component to the story and even our lives.

Twas the night before Christmas, pale and yellow moonlight illuminated a house deep in the woods. Tall pine trees surrounded the house, like giants pointing at the inky black sky. Flurries of snowflakes swirled in a hurry around the house. The house stood alone and abandoned, adorned with Christmas lights, but not the ones you would see on any ordinary house. Some lights were fading, once bright and colorful but now a former shell of what they once been. Others burned out in a spark while the ones left were shattered. The house was indeed creepy and not in the most pristine condition. Even more mysterious, the house would only ever appear on the night of Christmas Eve. Despite this, many local teenagers and explorers were drawn to the house. Anyone who was brave enough or dumb enough would enter and see the house in its deteriorated state.
