Odyssey (My Interesting Facts)?!” The Odyssey is a fictional book about Odysseus trying to get back home to Ithaca. This epic story was told by Homer, experts do not think he wrote it because writing only started around 5,000 years ago. Odysseus, a mortal, is the main character of this story. Odysseus is trying to come home from The Battle of Troy, but he comes in contact with many gods, mortals, and monsters who hinder or help him get back home. Odysseus leaves his wife and newly born child because he needed to go fight in a battle. Odysseus tells his wife, Penelope, that once his son, Telemachus, has a beard on his chin she must remarry. The Odyssey, the classic epic poem annotated by Homer has been retold for centuries since it was first written in the 8th century. Each of these retellings differs from the others, they seem to leave things out or have their own little spin on them, but more or less they run along the same story line. Homer's epic poem the odyssey tells the story of the famous greek hero Odysseus. Odysseus was one of the greatest fighters in the trojan war, but unfortunately was challenged with many trials before returning home to ithaca his family, which consists of his wife penelope, and his son Telemachus.
“Thinking before acting is wisdom, but acting before thinking is regret. (PictureQuotes.com)” This quote relates directly to the main character in The Odyssey, Odysseus, who is trying to get home to his wife and son who are being bombarded by suitors to take her hand in marriage, unknowing of the return of Odysseus. As Odysseus journeys home with his crew, they overcome many obstacles with the help of his leadership and the mythological greek gods, yet lose many crew members along the way. Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus endangers many people including people he does not even know. As much as people may say that Odysseus was a great leader, there is more evidence that he puts his crew in danger absent-mindedly, risks his family to get revenge, and deals with his problematic people in cruel and idiotic ways, proving he is not, in fact, a morally good man.
Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey focuses around Odysseus and his ten-year long journey home. His son, Telemachus, has a great significance to the tale. The first four books of the epic focus mainly on Telemachus. While some might argue that Odysseus’ son is a minor character with little importance to The Odyssey, Telemachus is vital not only because he lets readers know the goal of the epic, but also because of his growth throughout the poem is something readers can recognize and relate to, as well as the role he has in assisting his father when killing the suitors at the end.
My opinion on The Odyssey is a work of fiction for the most part. The Odyssey talks about things such as monsters, god, witches, and sorcery; these are the parts I find to be fiction. Although the poem speaks of the impossible, it also speaks of the possible, such as plants that can cause hallucinations or help prevent hallucinations. In the story Homer speaks of Odysseus' crew finds themselves on the shore of the Island of Aeaea, starving and hungry, where they eat from the sorer Circe. They are "transformed" into animals; this part of the story is fiction, but some truth may lie in it. In the video they talk about how Jimsonweed is a plant in around the area that Odysseus landed. This plant can cause hallucinations and memory loss, so Circe

Then placed her arm around Homer’s gaunt shoulders, and addressed those in attendance., “It tickles my heart a lovely shade of pink to stand here and share with y’all, that Princeton University selected Homer as the recipient of their prestigious Faulkner, Creative Writing Scholarship.” Straightaway, a wave of pandemonium surged through the audience, causing the animals in the nearby pasture to hightail it for cover. After, the audience calmed down, Sally asked Homer to say a few words. Those in attendance knew Homer preferred to write his words on paper rather than verbalize them.

Some people in this world were born for greatness and some have to climb their way up the totem pole to achieve it. This is the case in the two stories “The Odyssey” by Homer and “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens. Throughout these two stories the reader is able to follow the journeys and mistrials of the two protagonists. Some of the many elements that these two stories have in common include the character traits of the two main characters, the people they encounter throughout their journeys, and the many hardships that they face along the way. This can give you great reason to believe that when writing his famous book, “Great Expectations”, Charles Dickens used “The Odyssey” by Homer for inspiration.

The Odyssey is a companion to The Iliad, a story of the Trojan War. Both The Iliad and The Odyssey are epic poems written by Homer. In The Odyssey, Homer relates the misadventures of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, that occur during the decade following the defeat of Troy. In doing so, the fates of his fellow warriors are also made known. The Odyssey begins on Mount Olympus, in the palace of Zeus, king of the gods, where a discussion takes place regarding the woes of humans and their determination to blame it on the gods. Athene, daughter of Zeus, appeals to her father to help Odysseus, who through no fault of his own, has been kept prisoner on the island of Ogygia for seven years by Calypso, daughter of the god Atlas.
Throughout the development of humanity, the random group of societies have been historically all-equipped to deal with challenges the state of disorganization is not conducive to advancement of society due to the chaotic nature of existence on planet earth. Humans have to impose will on a chaotic world. One way they can do this is through culturally perceived definitions of hospitality. In the epic, Odysseus explores many different forms of hospitality. The story of the Odyssey started after the fall of Troy. This was the reason why Odysseus decided to go back home to see his son and wife. In the beginning of the book the reader is first introduced to Odysseus on his way to find his son. It all started after he was released from the goddess Calypso after seven years of captivity. The author of the Odyssey, to this day, remains unknown. Early Greeks have accredited works such as the "Homeric Hyms", The Iliad, and The Odyssey to an individual by the name of Homer. However, there are some scientists that insist these said works were product of a group of people and not one man. This particular group of scientists claims that the subject matter of the writings is too diverse for them to have been the product of just one person. Despite these differing opinions the general consensus is still that Homer is the author.
It was in the first moment, that one millisecond, when I had first seen him that I knew he was going to be mine. I knew without a doubt, that Odysseus, Laertes 's son and child of Zeus, would forever be in my possession, no, it 's more like, I would in his. It would only take just a certain amount of persuasion on my part.
