efforts show that employees are doing good work, the supervisor should praise their performance. Employees who are confident and satisfied are less likely to allow defects in goods or services. b) Standard Setting and Enforcement If employees and others are to support the quality-control effort, they must know exactly what is expected of them. This calls for quality standards. In many cases, the supervisor is responsible for setting quality standards as well as for communicating and enforcing them. These standards should have the characteristics of effective objectives: They should be written, measurable, clear, specific, and challenging but achievable. Furthermore, those standards should reflect what is important to the client. c) Using Control Chart Control chart is the most populated quality tool. The main reasons of their popularity are [2]: i. A proven technique for improving productivity. ii. Effective in defect prevention. iii. Prevent unnecessary process adjustment. iv. Provide diagnostic information. v. Provide information about process capability. vi. Problem Statement A spur gear manufacturing company in Khulna wants to test their quality and productivity and wants to find the most effective way of their quality testing. Figure 2 : A spur gear The following procedure of quality testing and improving productivity is given below:
VII. Seven basic Tools of tqm used in Industry If a product is to meet customer requirements, generally it should be produced by
* Good work deserves praise but it can allow the worker to become complacent. It should be given with information about how the worker can build on their successes.
A process that monitors standards by take measurements and corrective action as needed. It is in control when only variation is natural, if variation is assignable then discover cause eliminate it. Take samples to inspect/ measure- reduce inspection time, reduce opportunity of bad quality. Control charts graph of process data over time-show natural and assignable causes. Control charts for variable data (characteristic that is measured, length, height, etc) are X-chart (average) and R-chart (range)must use x and r to get correct results. central limit theorem follow normal curve. When we know . When we don’t know . Control charts for attributes (categorical-defective, good/bad) P-chart (percent) or C-chart
The quality standards for an organisation set down the ‘rules’ around the products and services the business provides, the suppliers and services they use, how staff are recruited and trained and how customer service is dealt with.
Senior leadership must determine and direct the level of quality that is acceptable within the organization. Leadership should prioritize areas of quality and use data based on benchmarks from other facilities. (Dlugacz, 2006). In addition the author states there are some important areas that must be monitored for quality. Compliance must be followed by leaders and all
An employee’s morale is tied to their work, the more stressed and dissatisfied the employees are the more their work will suffer. A happy employee means more work will be done, working in a happy and safe and secure work environment will make the workers more willing to work harder.
Recognition and positive feedback will help build the employee’s confidence and has a significant impact in maintaining good performance in the future. The employee is likely to be more committed and will serve as a positive influence to other employees.
A good supervisor seeks out the strengths in their employees and looks to manage weaknesses by identifying if they are in part of lack of training or poor interrelational communication between the manager and employee. Good supervisors seek out their employees’ success by focusing their attention on tasks they will exceed in and not basing their evaluation on tasks in which they struggle with weakness (Buckingham & Coffman, 1999). This notion presents an innovative idea in the way managers approach the work of their employees. It seems to be an effective way of evaluating an employee’s work based on a multitude of factors that can be contributing to it. It removes the blame from solely the employee which offers the opportunity to both the manager
Performance Standards: Guidelines that provide specific descriptions of observable performance that help to enact the principal supervisor standards in policies, programs and practice.
As a previous division chief you must have a realistic understand of the current work culture within Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA). Using competitive advantage through technology to achieve performance improvement may cause positive outcomes or negative outcomes depending on the situation and cultural environment. The Department of Veteran Affairs is moving into automation technology allowing managers to produce products and quality with less staff causing sustainable competitive advantage with other Federal agencies.
In recent events it has become evident that there is much debate about whether what is good for the employee is good for the employer and from this the speculation of whether the unitarist approach works better in the working environment or that of the pluralist. Even though the definition of the pluralist approach, which shall be defined further on, shows that it may be an advantageous approach whereas others believe otherwise and this is why this essay will argue that the unitarist approach is one worth believing in. This essay will also provide some examples that have occurred in Australia in the past twenty years. As well as compare a unitarist approach by which Australia abides to, and a pluralist approach to which the United States abides to.
The fundamental quality instruments that will be used are control chart and Pareto chart (Byrnes, 2014). Control chart will be used to identify how outcomes changes over a period of time. Pareto chart will be used to show the occurrence frequency that identifies the number of contributors to the problem which identifies the frequency errors.
Employees are happier when they feel that they are rewarded fairly for the work they do. Always acknowledge employee responsibilities, and the effort they put on, and the tasks that they have done well.
Seven QC tools are fundamental instruments to improve the quality of the product. They are used to analyze the production process, identify the major problems, control fluctuations of product quality, and provide solutions to avoid future defects. Statistical literacy is necessary to effectively use the seven QC tools. These tools use statistical techniques and knowledge to accumulate data and analyze them.
Analysing the quality environment from which suitable quality may be obtained. This will serve as a guide to purchasing management when setting quality objectives and making decisions on quality.
