I think that the majority of my values, such as respect, compassion, empathy etc. have been influenced and came about from these religious ideologies.

My personal values are based off of the principles of my faith. I did not have the best environment for me at home, therefore, my safe haven was church because I fully believed God was listening to me. Because I put my faith in Christianity, serving my God, I have the value that every person is treated as a brother or sister in Christ. Values are usually points which often all of us think important to us along with consequence how we perform ourselves. Values are usually points for example integrity, loyalty, honesty. Our Values are usually according to Beliefs or perhaps created by our track record. Our Values is usually accurate or perhaps inappropriate in comparison to facts, nevertheless regardless it’s what we feel it’s true. As I have religious beliefs then I do form a specific set of values set out by a religious faith.

What values is important to me? To answer this question, I believe I should first start with a brief background about me. I was born in a small country in West Africa called Ivory Coast. My mother was a Christian and my father was Muslim. Because of the ongoing clash between members of these two religions, my parents were not married, as a result I grew up dealing with the clash, and living the life with two single parents. I spent my school years with my father, and summer breaks with my mother. My father taught me the values based on his belief and so did my mother. Consequently, my values originated from the merge of both beliefs.

The five pillars of Islam are the five fundamental acts in Islam that are believed to be mandatory by Muslims all around the world. The fifth pillar of Islam is the Hajj, which is a required annual pilgrimage for all Muslims financially and physically healthy enough to make the trip. The Muslims make the trip in the last month of the lunar calendar and they go to Mecca in Saudi Arabia to see the Kaaba built by Abraham. With the Hajj being one of the largest gatherings of people in the world, Saudi Arabia's economy benefits greatly from all of the spendings of the people taking the pilgrimage. Throughout the world, the depictions and realities of Muslims are extremely diverse. However, the way in which all Muslims practice and worship remains very similar. Despite the devastating effects of European colonialism on Islam and the cultural identity of Muslims, Islam is the second largest religion in the world. In this essay I will argue that although European colonialism and modernization has had a devastating impact, Islam and the cultural identity of Muslims still remains intact and has drawn attention to the power of Islam in politics and society.

Like most religions, the Muslim faith is no different in that it there is no one way to practice it. For example Christianity. Not every Christians devoutly goes to church every Sunday. Those within the Muslim faith practice it with their own unique interpretation. Despite the different interpretations, there is a set of guidelines for moral instruction that is central to all. These rules are called the Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars serves as a moral compass for all Muslims and are universally accepted. They are mentioned specifically in the Qur’an as they were recited to Muhammad.

One of the most prominent and significant core beliefs at the heart of the Islamic Tradition is the Five Pillars of Islam; Faith, Prayer, Charity, Fasting and Pilgrimage to Mecca, five obligations that every Muslim must fulfil in order to live an enriched and full life, according to the teachings of Islam. However, while each Pillar is held in very high regard the Fifth and final Pillar, referred to as Hajj, ḥadjdj or hadj, as it is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the Holy City of Islam in Saudi Arabia.

     After watching The Five Pillars of Islam it has made me rather interested in the history and origin of the Islamic religion. So often today we see the Islam as a religion of terrorism, and war. We see it as a religion of people that have nothing in their heart but bad. The truth is that Islam was started on principles very different from what we see in the news or hear on the radio. Islam rather has a long rich history that is full of some of the same principles and morals of Christianity that are seen in the western world as the foundation of good. Five Pillars of Islam The central belief of the Islamic community is that there is only one God, or Allah, who is infinite in power. Humanity’s overall purpose is to serve Allah and build a lifestyle based upon morals. When the Arab armies of Islam conquered new lands, they began expressing their culture and faith by building palaces and commissioning other works.

Due to much media in the world often times when a person hears the word Islam, their mind will go straight to the Twin Towers attack attack on 9/11 and group them all together with the blame (Mavani, 2010, p.95). However, anyone who knows people associated with the Islam religion know that is not the truth. Islam is often called the religion of peace and all they want to do is to please God in everything they do. The goal of Islam is to live your life as an act of worship and the way to attain this goal is through the Five Pillars of Faith and ultimately through God. The Five Pillars of Faith include faith, prayer, charity, fasting, and pilgrimage to Mecca. By following these Five Pillars, Islams believe the all knowing God will judge them

The Fajr prayer is performed before sunrise, Dhuhr is performed in the midday after the sun has surpassed its highest point, Asr is the evening prayer performed before sunset, Maghrib is the evening prayer performed after sunset and Isha is the night prayer. All of these prayers are recited while facing in the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca and forms an important aspect of the Muslim Ummah.

The religion of Islam dates back to the 7th century CE and the life of its founder, Muhammad of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. Islam is an Arabic word meaning: making something safe and secure, making something sound and whole, entering into peace and tranquility, and surrendering to something other than oneself. A follower of Islam is called a Muslim. In the religion of Islam, it requires the belief in certain core tenets, which include the articles of faith and the five pillars of worship. These two combined, form the Islamic creed.
