Effects of the Computer Revolution in the 21st Century Today, computers are practically everywhere. The 21st century has experienced huge leaps in the advancement of computer technology in terms of both hardware and software. These advancements are a direct result of the computer revolution that began in 1975 when the first personal computer was launched. The first personal computer was the Altair 8800. Since then different companies have gone on to assemble different computers. The computer revolution went through other phases such as the network revolution with the rise of the global internet by ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) in the 1990s. This was followed by the smartphone revolution that began in 2007 when Apple Inc. launched the first iPhone. Now computer technology is taking a course towards different fields and spheres. This paper will explore the positive effects of computer technology during the 21st century and the direction of computing in the future. One of the impacts of the computer revolution is the application of computer technology in previously non-technical fields. Computers are now being used in fields where tasks were previously operated by humans. These fields include agriculture, finance, and manufacturing. In the field of finance, for example, computers are used in data entry, processing and data storage. Computers are used to track and perform real-time financial calculations as well as track the large numbers of accounts in banks. ATMs also use computers to authenticate the card holder’s information and perform transactions. Cash payments have also gone card-less as smartphones come with technology that allows users to make payments using their smartphones. A good example of this is Apple Pay and Android Pay by Apple Inc. and Google Inc. respectively. Computers have become the backbone of the banking and financial industries and without computers, it would be impossible to keep up. Another field that is surprisingly embracing computer technology is agriculture, where farmers, scientists, and engineers are collaborating to produce better crops. Robots and drones are being used to monitor the behavior and growing patterns of crops. As Dan Ferber, in his article,
There have been many advances since the initial invention of the computer fifty years ago. Today, computers operate many of the things that we use in everyday life. Some examples of these things are farm machinery, cars, planes, video games, heat and water delivery to our homes, banking, billing, and even the stock market. The advances of the computer have resulted in the
In United States history, there have been few inventions that have completely astonished the whole nation; the personal computer was one of them. The introduction of the IBM Personal Computer in the United States created a novel, profound interest in technology in the 1980s. PC Magazine from February 1982 indicated that technology was slowly improving around that time, but the personal computer took a giant leap into the future and lead to various new inventions and ideas. IBM’s Personal Computer not only opened new doors for IBM, but for many other companies and industries as well, which only added to the excitement. Even
During the late 19th and early 20th centuries Science & Technology have grown-up a radical contribution to industry, and the personal computer has become a defining symbol of our age. In 1940, it was not recognized that Science & Technology would develop into an innovative way that would intensely affect business, trade, the monetary world, administration, discipline, education, communications, entertainment, and society as a whole. Today, information technology and its applications persist to go forward progressively. Computers and communication technology will become even more precious to civilization as they are ever more able to distinguish
Today, computers are found everywhere and people rely upon them for travel directions, entertainment, purchasing products, and social interactions.
The majority of society has adapted to the technology-rich world that we live in. After all, an important aspect of a good electronic is its user-friendliness and adaptability. We have taken advantage of all technologies improvements in products and services. However, in the future, technology will provide much more than just products and services. It will provide autonomous transportation and engrossing entertainment. It will also enhance education, ameliorate the healthcare industry, help the environment, grow global economy and much more. Technology will have a vital
In today’s modern world, it’s hard to imagine life without computers. Throughout the decades, computers have gotten better, faster, and smaller. It’s hard to imagine that before the 20th century almost all calculations were done by mechanical devices such as the electromechanical computers; or, the first digital computers that had huge tubes around them that you had to designate a whole room just to fit the computer in. Today we have Internet, phone book, pictures, videos, telephone, mail, and camera that is compacted into one tiny device that can fit in your pocket.
This is an informative age and the importance of Information Technologies has reached beyond the human expectations. Today the world has become a narrow place because of the inventions of the technologies like computer, internet, smart phones etc. Internet has made us possible to explore the whole world with just on a mouse click. Moreover, from a small thing like ticket booking to major things like bank transactions can be done through a help of computer and internet. These technologies also play a vital role in the field of education as well as in employment. Similarly, with the invention of smart phones and devices, technology has become one of the integral parts of human life. These smart phones can be used as multimedia devices when there is no internet
Modern life is virtually dependent on computers and these points to the huge impacts computers have on modern life. Computers are used in many different areas such as in business, design, medicine, military amongst other a multifunctional roles. One of the greatest leaps in development of human beings has been because of the widespread usage of computers. In fact, the computer is the single greatest piece of technology in the 20th century and as such, they have been associated with certain social impacts. Modern life has borne the brunt of the benefits and negative impacts the usage of computers have impacted the world. The social impacts have been magnanimous across a variety of aspects such as; health, communication, social
Charles Babbage is recognized as “The Father of Computing”. He developed the concept of a digital programmable computer. Charles contrived the concept called the Analytical Engine and it hailed as the first general-purpose computer concept. The Analytical Engine serves to be the signature of computer technology; nevertheless, this computer concept was the evolution that began the inventions of computers. Whereas the 1st generation of computers served in the early 19th century, it expanded throughout the generations; thus, evolving into computers people know today. In the 21st century not computers, but technology itself are highly known to be used everywhere. The advancement of technology within the 21st century does not just go into using computers; furthermore, it goes to using cell phones, tablets, pcs, laptops, desktops, wearable devices, such as smartwatches and activity trackers, etc. Computers are disbursed within workplaces, such as colleges, high schools, and even hospitals.
In the 21st century having a computing device it’s nothing unique anymore. Whatever we do, computers take important part in our everyday life. Smartphones, laptops, desktop computers and many more devices are nowadays easy accessible for everyone. These innovations did not happen overnight. Looking in the past computers haven’t been so complex since their where born. There was a long journey before also there is a long list of companies and within does companies people or great engineers who took such crucial part in evolving computers. There is many of them but in personal computing there is one company which took a significant
The modern day society is the result of countless processes of change and evolution, among the more notable of them being the evolution of Information Technology. Today, technology impacts all aspects of the life of humanity, from the trivial chores, to the complex and intricate endeavors. But this state of affairs could not have been possible had it not been for the creation and strong development of the Personal Computer.
The use of the computer which was a gadget reachable only to limited organizations a few decades ago has now become a part and parcel of our daily lives. The large computer processors have given way to the simple laptops and this has made the very expensive computer a gettable device for the common man requiring very minimal computer literacy.
In the 20th century, people saw sufficiently of important variations in the life to recall forever in their life. Most changes were technology progressions due to countless inventions, which even today changing forms of ordinary life of society. In my view, the most extraordinary invention which can be recalled in history is invention of computers. Because, computers prejudiced our office, systems, education and science.
Today, we are living in a computer age. The awareness of computer is more than at any other time. It has dominated almost all the fields. There is hardly an industry, which does not use computers. It is not anymore thought of as a mere calculating machine. Computers are used in banks, factories, in Government offices, education institutions, for research and development and even supermarkets. The Computer plays a very vital role in the following fields:
There are 7 individuals on the planet who hold the "key to the web." If in the occasion of a significant disaster the web is closed down these key holders will together have the capacity to reboot an essential piece of the framework.
