The President of the United States is responsible for tackling both foreign and domestic issues. Of the myriad of global and domestic problems, global dependency is the most significant as it impacts the economic wellbeing of people around the world. In the debates and discussions of the Presidential Candidates one of the most controversial issues has been the outcome of America’s current import/export deficit and free trade agreements. On the one hand Ralph Nader argues that corporate America has created the global dependency of “small and large nations” (Nader) on the United States. On the other hand Donald Trump contends that China has purposefully aimed at gaining a stranglehold on our economy. I agree with parts of both perspectives. …show more content…
Global dependencies have grown since the European colonization of America and Africa, but since that time certain underdeveloped countries have become powerful economies thereby shifting those that were reliant to one whom others rely upon. America and China are two perfect examples of this phenomena. Over the last 40 years Asia has been one of the fastest growing economies relying on the export of goods for a large percentage of its growth. For the past few decades American innovators have been outsourcing production work to China. Nader argues the purpose of outsourcing is to increase profits, but I feel it is to allow for innovation. Without this exporting the U.S. would not have experienced the massive technological growth in recent years. Corporations are now more likely to invest in new technology because of limited risk that cost cutting measures in China allow for. The President needs to understand this and incentivize domestic production rather than punishing foreign production. If the government successfully does this, the United States would experience a growth in production alongside the current growth in technology.
For the past three decades the U.S. trade deficit with China has been growing. In 2013 U.S. trade with China was $562 billion, but resulted in a trade deficit of $319 billion. Nader states that the
The international trade sector of the U.S. economy continues to draw attention in economic and political circles. It is true that, the international market has become increasingly important as a source of demand for U.S. production and a source of supply for U.S. consumption. Indeed, it is substantially more important than is implied by the usual measures that relate the size of the international sector to the overall economy. This paper explores the role international trade now plays in the U.S. economy and answers the important questions for economic policy: How does international trade affect economic well-being? Who gains and who loses from free
Although the United States’ trade with China seems beneficial, trade with China, a country which does not care for even its own people, might be a bad decision. The country of China has much lower standards for human rights, meaning that they also have little regard for the wellbeing of people from other countries. Furthermore, China does not permit freedom of speech for its citizens, who have little way of pronouncing their dissatisfaction over political or other matters. Finally, to a certain point, the Chinese people are restricted of their religious rights. Although the U.S. believes that trade with China is beneficial for both parties, commerce with China, whose government has low standards for human rights, particularly those
There have been forty-four Presidents of the United States and most people can only name a few. One of the lesser known presidents is known as John Quincy Adams who was President from March 4, 1825 to March 4, 1829. His fame may have been enriched by the fact that he was the first son of a president to become president. “Quincy” as he was called to avoid any confusion with his father John Adams, was one of the most qualified people to ever be elected into the White House. His six years (one term) in office saw both success and failure. John Quincy Adams as Secretary of State had quite a few successes, but also had several failures as President; however, his Presidency led to the most successful post-Presidency in the history of the United States.
The early presidents had an important role in shaping position of the president of America and set good examples for the future presidents to follow. Despite how underdeveloped the country was, the early presidents set great precedents, such as the two terms in office, foreign relations, and determining the power of the federal government and the judicial branch. Although the presidents in the 19th century each had an important role in history during their terms in office, their success as the leader of the executive branch is not exactly the same. The range for determining the success of the president is evaluated by their legacy, contributions to the economic success of the young nation, and ability to handle foreign affairs. Based on my criteria, I would rank the early presidents in this order of most successful to least successful: George Washington, James Monroe, James Madison, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson.
The question of how some Presidents are able to use their personal influence to achieve their political goals from what is a technically weak position vis-à-vis the Congress is one that has fascinated political scientists for decades. The President is rightfully perceived, as the most powerful office is America, indeed the whole world. He can negotiate with other nations. He can send troops into combat. He can use the immense powers of the executive branch to chart policy. When it comes to enactment of legislation, however, the Constitution gives the President very limited power over the legislation other than the veto, which, when used, most often reflects weakness rather than strength. The President can propose legislation but he cannot even force Congress to consider it or even get it out of committee. The President’s agenda is largely in the hands of Congress. A President’s success in pursuing his agenda is directly proportionate with his power to persuade Congress.
The president is the most important job in the United States. Not the ruler of the United States ,but have some power over the country. The president of the United States is a person who symbolize the country and leads the country by making decisions of what is the best thing to do. The president needs to know about the past history such as the conflict of World War I and II and different events that led to violence in our own country. The president of the United States needs to know how the system of the government works and different problems that have been happening right now such as immigration, terrorism and hunger. The president needs to have the people votes so that he or she could be able to have the position of being the president
The President of the United States is often referred to as the most powerful person in the world. This position offers presidents a unique opportunity to reach a large audience and to command its attention. Presidents frequently use this advantage as a “bully pulpit” to persuade citizens and to vote for favored legislation.
The President of the United States has a very important, and no doubt, stressful job. Yet not a king, the President carries multiple job titles which include, but not limited to: chief of state, chief executive, chief legislator, and commander in chief. Harry Truman (33rd U.S. President), displayed to the whole world his role as commander in chief, when he made the decision to drop two atomic bombs on Japan, in April of the year 1945. President Truman’s actions and reasons for the bombings showed that he used a utilitarianism view, as the bases of his decision.
The government in the United States has three branches, which are executive, legislative and judicial. The United States of America declared the independence from Britain since 1976. Since success of revolution, the United States founded their first government in 1789 with following ideas: freedom, liberty, democracy. Until now, the United States have more than forty presidents indirectly elected by civilian citizens. Presidents will be reelected every four years. Changing in presidents will also change ideas about the role of government. Barry Goldwater, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama these four renowned presidents demonstrated their different views on establishing government with four speeches in 1964, 1965, 1981 and
The United States first declared its independence back in 1776. Just a decade later, the Constitution was written and signed on September 17, 1787. To this day, this document represents the supreme law of the United States of America. The first President of the United States was elected on February 4th in 1789. His name of course was George Washington. This was the start of the United States, since then we have had 43 other presidents. Each and every one of those presidents has done something for our country. Whether good or bad, effective or not very effective this is how our country has become what it is today. Since WWII, the United States has had 12 different Presidents that have led our nation and looked over significant events and decisions that have shaped this country.
With the elections coming along swiftly and the hard decision upon us one is left to think. Think about who we will vote for yes, but also why we have this awesome power to vote for our new commander and chief, the person that can make decisions that can alter our future. We the people get to choose who fills this position. Our countries fate is in our hands and I would like to know what gives us this power and why. Why are eighteen year olds allowed to vote and what makes these eighteen year olds qualified to vote. Not just this but also, why do we vote? And most importantly to the men and women that reside in the United States of America, is voting the most rational, and efficient way to choose the man or woman that will run our great country for the next four years?
The President of the United States is seen as very powerful and important in our world; however, there is a system of checks and balances, which checks one branch does not become too powerful over the other. Our government is divided into three branches. The legislative branch is controlled by Congress, which includes the Senate and House of Representatives. It introduces and passes legislation. It also has the power to override Presidential vetoes with a two-thirds vote. The President is in charge of the executive branch. A law may go into effect once the President has signed it; however, the Supreme Court may declare it unconstitutional and remove the law. The president can also veto a bill, Congress may override it with a
The President of the United States of America, which was established by the U.S. Constitution in 1787, is the head of state and head of U.S. government. The president is also the Commander in chief of Armed Forces of the United States. The president must be a thirty five year-old and natural-born U.S. citizen who has been a permanent resident in the States at least fourteen years. The President of the United States is indirectly elected by the people through Electoral College every four years. It has become a powerful institution throughout those years since the Constitution was founded.
The President of the United States is a well respect and immensely powerful position. Every 4 years, a new president is elected. Many highly respect individuals hold competition for this career, presenting their ideas and beliefs for the American people to support or refute. The United States current president, Barack Obama, is ending is 2nd term in office. This starts the debate and discussion of who will take his place as president. Currently, there is an enormous selection of individuals who people believe to be qualified for the position. However, the American people believe there is one individual who stands out amongst the crowd. He is a Queens New York native who did well both socially and academically. He graduated from both
The United States and China share the most imbalanced bilateral trade relationship in the world. The United States imports more goods from China than it exports to a tune of $202 billion dollars each year. All told, China alone accounts for nearly 26% of the
