Good evening, my name is Tina Alicea and I am the director of The Prevention of Animal Cruelty Society also known as PACS and we are located at 1006 Intervale Avenue Bronx NY 10457. I can be contacted at Tina.alicea1@yahoo.com or 347-555-9999. The Prevention of Animal Cruelty Society (PACS) requests funding to continue educating against animal cruelty. Animal cruelty in New York is a very significant social issue because animals should have the same right to live and be unharmed as humans and many New York households own pets. Animal cruelty consists of numerous kinds of mistreatment such as hunting, factory farming, animal fighting as entertainment and wearing animals.
The Prevention of Animal Cruelty Society (PACS) aims to advocate, educate, rescue and improve the quality of life for animals by targeting people who get arrested for animal cruelty, requiring those individuals to attend a program that instructs them on how to properly care for an animal and provide shelter for mistreated animals. PACS advocates for animals through public policy, corporate reforms, and major campaigns to confront national and global cruelties. As the director of this organization, it is not easy to fix what is damaged. However, with funding and a team who is as dedicated and passionate about saving animals as their director, there can be major success in correcting the way the government is being viewed in the eyes of their community. PACS wants to engage the hearts, hands and minds of the

Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today’s society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it.
Animals are beaten and abused on a daily basis due to barbaric individuals. Whether it be from harmful intentions or pure negligence most cases go unreported. “Deliberate cruelty may involve beating, shooting, stabbing animals, or setting them on fire. Neglect is not giving a necessary food, water, shelter, or vet care” (Human Society). The lack of attention and care for these animals can often lead to severe, and sometimes irrevocable damage. The Animal Legal Defense Fund, ALDF for short, website tells of one story where neighbors of a farm complained to the local humane society, “that the Colliers were neglecting many animals on their farm, including dogs and horses. When they went to their property to investigate, they discovered dogs and horses in several states of neglect and starvation and seized them out of concern for their immediate health”(ALDF). Sadly, however, it can become much worse for animals. Owners will sometimes purposefully abuse their animals. Unfortunately, occurrences like these are hardly uncommon. One such example, from the RSPCA of England, the Royal
1. ATTENTION GETTER: Millions of animals are abused each year. Over a million of these animals are abused or killed just due to the involvement with domestic violence. Despite animal cruelty being a felony which can result in jail time for over 15 years and 500,000 dollars in fines, it is still an issue which occurs on a daily basis across the United States. It is important for these animals to not go unnoticed, which can be achieved if society became more enlightened and educated on the topic of animal cruelty. (Pacelle, 2011).
(Charity Navigator, 2015, Charity rating) These numbers are a far cry from what Mr. Bergh told the Governor of New York when he paid a visit to the ASPCA and he stumbled over a hole in the old, tattered carpet and told Mr. Bergh to buy better carpet and send him the bill, Mr. Bergh simply replied, “No, thank you, Governor. But send me the money, and I will put it to better use for the animals. (as cited in Winograd, 2012, ¶3)” Moreover, for the last 15 years, the shelters, rescue groups, feral cat caretakers and No Kill proponents who have tried to restore Bergh’s vision through the No Kill revolution have been opposed by those like past ASPCA CEO Ed Sayres, supported by a Board of Directors content to count the money, all of whom appear intent on squandering Bergh’s noble legacy. When we look back on Mr. Berg’s life’s mission and what he wanted to accomplish and then look at the ASPCA today, one must wonder what happened? While it is not an easy task to undertake, we will take a look at animal “shelter”

They also aid in helping with natural disasters, poor counties/cities/families and neutering/spaying. The A.S.P.C.A commends to adopt a puppy from a local shelter than to buy one. This helps to prevent the profits gained from horrible and mistreated animals stuck in breeding operations and mills.
The overall mission of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is to “be a voice for animals” (ASPCA). That mission is accomplished by providing an appealing website that effectively educates visitors not only on the major concerns but also on the need for their involvement if they hope to make progress towards solving those issues. Through continued traffic, to their website, the ASPCA aims to gain new supporters who they hope will become educators and ambassadors of their mission to further reduce the number of homeless animals and to end animal
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Over the centuries, animals have suffered from cruelty from humans. In the United States, animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival. Animals have been inflicted with pain from humans for reasons other than self-defense. They have been slaughtered for their food and fur for personal gain in profit. In a majority of cases they have even been abused for someone’s own personal amusement or out of rage filled impulses. In some cases animals are found and rescued. They are given the second chance in life to experience what life should be like compared to what they once had.
Countless lives locked away in cages and forgotten about have overwhelmed our society, it has left blood stains on our history as a species and if history has taught us anything, it’s that we have a choice to change our ways of adjusting to situations. A war which was fought in pursuit of ending such criminal means, yet we as human beings do little to nothing to end the horrific crimes of animal deaths in shelters. It is no secret that this world has become infused with problems that have extended from one side of the globe to the other. Amongst these problems lies a terrible truth: nearly every year, sums of almost eight million cats and dogs have been placed in shelters around the world. Out of these vast numbers, half will be
A stray kitten wanders among the dirt and bile polluting the corner of the street. Its mother was hit and killed on impact by yet another reckless city driver. In a panic, the kitten strays away from its fellow siblings and is completely on its own when it is found by an alcoholic man and his seven-year-old son. The young boy picks up the kitten who meows back at him; not knowing the difference between friend or foe. Who decides this kitten’s fate? Will it be taken care of or roughhoused and abused for the rest of its life? That is why there is a middle man. Many local animal shelters have volunteers to rescue these vulnerable pets before they fall into the wrong hands. Among all of the great non-profits in the world, I chose the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals because of its major dedication and passion for supporting those through rescue and advances in veterinary medicine.
Animals are an important and valued part of many families and cultures. In many households, animals are considered members of the family, receive Christmas and birthday presents, and are cared for just as a human child would be. Opposition to animal cruelty has even become a sort of universal value in American culture(Kordzek 604). But animals are uniquely vulnerable to abuse, and despite this they still do not receive much needed protection from the law. The penalties for animal cruelty are not frequently severe enough to even deter one from harming an animal. This is dangerous not only for animals, but for human beings too. Animal cruelty and domestic violence have been proven to correlate in countless ways, and recognizing animal cruelty as a serious criminal offense and a form of domestic violence would serve to protect both animals and human beings from needless acts of violence. Instituting stiffer criminal penalties for animal cruelty and increasing the protective measures for victims of abuse is necessary to further the protection of both animals and human beings.
Introduction: I remembered how throughout my life I respected and admired people that tried to help animals in need. I remembered how I felt when I saw first-hand the result of abuse. I remembered how I wanted to help those poor animals that were being treated so cruelly. And for all that I remembered, I decided that the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) was the interest group I felt strongly for and chose to research.
Each year, the most extreme cases of animal abuse receive media attention. Yet, the animal cruelty problem is more widespread than is reported in the media. Animal abuse and neglect is a nationwide issue, affecting thousands of animals nationwide. Cruelty to animals is defined as the infliction of physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, beyond what is necessary. There is a need to stop abusers from acting in such a horrific manner–preventing the neglect and suffering of the animals. What causes animal abusers to act in such a cruel way towards animals? How are cases of animal abuse being managed, and how should cases be handled? Finally, does the status of animals in society contribute to the rate of their abuse?
When one discusses the topic of animal abuse, normally domestics such as cats and dogs come to one’s mind. However, farm animals and livestock also suffer from animal abuse and neglect. In many rural places of southeast Ohio, cases of animal neglect go unseen or ignored. Cows, pigs, chickens, and other stock animals do not receive proper food, water, and vet care. However, the community can change the lives of these animals for the better if they implement change. Education and awareness need to be spread through the community and then through the action of reporting it to the proper authorities, the animals will get a better life.
