It has been far too long that we have dealt with England and despite our attempts to come to a reasonable compromise, it is time to seek independence. We must form together and create our own nation, breaking free from the iron grip of tyranny. We have suffered oppression and have been taken advantage of. If we do not act now, our chance of success will only grow smaller. If you are undecided or even skeptical about this issue I can assure you that freedom is the answer. To break away from the country that has reigned over us for so long is a notion that some cannot wrap their minds around. This is why we must first come to terms with how we have undergone so much scrutiny under England’s rule. For innumerable colonists the motive for why …show more content…
We must put a stop to this by severing the ties to the nation that has been devouring our well-being for such an extensive time. Certain persons might say that we should stay with England and continue to be governed by them. They think that England will bestow us with, as Barbour and Wright (2012, 73) mentions; “financial support by British corporations, military defense by the British army and navy, and a secure market for [our] agricultural products.” What these loyalists fail to realize is what we lose by giving up our freedom as well as the benefits of taking it for ourselves. We are in no need of England’s money or protection; we can provide for ourselves. Managing our own resources would generate a vast amount of wealth and eventually England will look to trade with us. With the absurd taxes lifted from our trade, our economy will flourish. They will, in time, acknowledge us as a center of power and wealth. In fact, one day the entire world will distinguish us as a formidable nation. The day when that will occur is within our future, we just have to make it happen. This is why we need to seek independence; this is what we must fight for. By mentioning what we will gain from this process I cannot ignore the fact that there will be loss. Some might say that it will not be worth it, but they only consider it in the short run. We have to fix our eyes upon the future of this nation and what
The years of 1763-1765 were truly defining moments for colonist of the colonies, soon to become the United States of America. ‘’War! War! This is the only way!” American Colonist shouted,as they took to the streets proclaiming defiance of British rule. “We as a people shall fight for our freedom and have victory. No more shall we continue to let others control our countries and give our money to a monarch who has no concern for our right’s, dedication that was put forth to help fight and respect us as loyal subjects. We must fight for our freedom!” When American colonist waged war it proved to be the only way for the colonies to become free from Britian. In turn, the colonist were justified in breaking away from England because of: The
Colonists sought independence from British government for a multitude of reasons. Tension quickly rose between England and the thirteen colonies due to the unjust taxing without fair representation in Parliament, the colonist’s rights to assemble were taken away by the British, and there were many unreasonable Acts and laws put into place in attempt to have complete control over the colonists as well as intimidate them. For these reasons and the suffering that the colonists endured at the hands of the British government, I feel that the colonists had plenty just causes to separate themselves from England.
Today, many American’s are proud to identify that the Declaration of Independence marks the beginning of freedom for North America. However, as students in history classes across American schools and colleges dig deeper into the realities of the country’s battles for freedom of rights it represents that from the beginning the Revolution was in the hearts and minds of the American people. The signing of the Declaration of Independence on the face of it depicts it as liberty and democracy, but the realism is that the American colonists had little choice or no choice at all, in how the American British governed its people. It is clear, the American colonies never gave up their fight for freedom and human rights, but the British Revolution still
In the years of 1775-1776 the American colonist were locked under British control and were stripped away from their rights and their freedom. During this time the Americans came together to unite and secede from the British power. Patrick Henry and Thomas Paine’s purpose revealed through the Declaration of Independence and exhibits the ideal of freedom and justice. Through these actions, determination sought forth for sovereignty.
In the years before the war for independence, a majority of the colonies were supporters of our union with the British Empire. The dangers to a young colony were numerous, and without the vast resources of the British, it is doubtful the colonies would have survived. As the years progress, the colonies developed a stronger economy, increased food productions, and developed local governments that reduced the need for a guardian empire. As the British government tried to increase its control over the colonies, a group of colonials started to think about life out from under British controls. This group eventually came to be known as the “Patriots.”
The British rule in the American colonies has reached a breaking point for most. The people want to have freedom from
For two decades prior to the American Revolution, the Americans developed a series of grievances against the British government for the policies restricting the American colonies. In the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, those grievances were listed including British charges of trading and taxations. The Americans stated that the British have no right to restrict the colonies, therefore, there are enough reasons to separate from the Great Britain. However, the colonists blamed and faulted King George III for incidents caused partially by the colonists themselves. My perspective on this issue is that the charges leveled in the Declaration of Independence against the King were mostly valid with few exceptions.
In 1776 a country soon to be named the United States of America would break away from the world power of the time. America the country attributed with being the most prestigious and dominant. However without the help of England, America would never have reached this point. England’s tyrannical economic policies were key to the separation of England and the colonies. The Colonies rebelled against England in 1776 due to England's cheap buying of natural resources, expensive selling of finished goods, and the heavy taxes that were enforced.
Freedom. Doesn’t that word make you just want to leap out of your seat and change the world? For us it does. We have been trapped under Great Britain's rule since the dawn of the colonies existence. It’s time we take charge and fight, rather than stand back and let them walk all over us. We deserve to be able to use our own voices to say whatever we want. We have the right to do what we want when we want, after all, we are all created equal by God. But, we are no match for the great nation. They have a much stronger army, a well developed government, and loads of guns and all sorts of weaponry. For now, we must live by and honor their rules. But one day, this won’t be the case anymore. We, the colonists, shall remain loyal to Britain because we believe that a great deal of the claims made by some of the Patriots are false. If we are to remain loyal, we expect Britain to continue protecting us, keep the taxes off, and allow us to use the structure of trade and settlement they set up for us.
Your actions have made us want to rebell and become our own country. A good relationship between us should go something like this: You should have let us have the right to vote for our leaders. Everyone in England is able to vote for their leaders, so if we are truly Englishmen why do we not have the full rights of Englishmen? Also, you should seek our council in the matter of restoring to the treasury what was spent on the war with France. Instead you have demanded our aid in enforcement of unreasonable acts taxation. Our grievances are thus: First, you have made the tea tax too high. Tea is the most popular drink of Englishmen and you have taxed it to pay for a war in which the colonies had no quarrel. Second, you made the stamp act, taxing paper products. This strains a free press; no doubt advantaging the crown. It also taxes one of our few luxuries, card games - again, unfairly paying for a war we didn’t want. Third, you made us board and house British soldiers with the quartering act. Taking care of them means we have to pay for their needs, and in a random, undistributed way. Fourth, you closed the Boston port after the Tea Party as a punishment. This makes international trade impossible and
The Anglo-Americans were of course justified in seeking independence from the American Empire. The British empire were clear in their intent to use the colonies as a cash cow. In effort to keep control over the colonies and repaying their own debts, the British continuously increased taxes, on an already stressed environment. If a people cannot have control of their own moneys and livelihoods they cannot truly be free. That is why we still fight about taxes
The Declaration of Independence was a document published on July 4, 1776 written by the United States to Britain declaring freedom and self-authority. The document consisted of reasons that described Britain’s noncompliance to America’s needs in governing. Britain and America had a Mother and child government relationship, until that relationship became unbeneficial and untrue to the United States. Therefore, the reasoning of the perception that America had with the relationship to the British Empire was parasitical in forms of taxes and unconsented consequences. This parasitical relationship was important in the consideration of breaking all ties with the ‘mother country’ because America was suffering, while only Britain was feeding off and gaining benefits.
Most of you have came here for economic opportunities, separating from England would only mean less trade. This will destroy the economy and we will have a low supply of tea. I was angered when I heard about the Boston Tea Party, not only was it a waste of tea, now we have to pay the debt by closing the Boston Harbor. My family’s trading business can’t afford to deal with such unreasonable acts. Our American economy would only cripple without the help of Great
The fight for our independence from Britain is necessary. Our peaceful methods of petitions, protests, and requests for fair treatment were simply ignored. Toleration for this exploitation won’t be permitted and to the abiding of the Stamp Act or of any other acts imposed from the British Parliament. As said by Patrick Henry, these are the implements of war and subjugation. For ten years, this subject has been brought up in every possible way but all was in vain. While you say to not take the risk for it will destroy what we have now rather than restore, the motive behind Great Britain’s protection was out of interest not attachment according to Thomas Paine. By this dependence, we are made the makeweight in the scale of British politics, Paine
For these reasons and more, we need to secede from the British Empire. We have been treated unjustly and unconstitutionally many times by King George III. He allows soldiers to overrun our homes, sleep in our beds, eat our food and leave us starving without so much as backwards glance. If we don’t secede from the British Empire now, while we can, we may be stuck under the British rule forever, watching our children, our children’s children and their children suffer and
