Unhappy Valley Everyday humans are faced with dilemmas where they must decide on what considered right, and what is considered wrong. Whether they are fifty or five, all humans face situations like that. There are times when humans make the wrong decision thinking it 's right, or make the right decision, but it’s wrong. When it comes to making decisions, older generations are held to a higher standard than younger generations. That is because they are expected to be responsible and have had to experience difficult life situations, younger generations are known and expected to make the wrong decisions constantly. But in some cases, adults will make that wrong …show more content…
The film spotlights the wrong decisions, and the justifications that come with them. Bar-Lev targets the emotional and logical appeals of his audience while teaching them indirectly on what happened. The rhetoric that is used in Happy Valley appeals the audience’s emotional and logical appeals. Throughout the film, Bar-Lev introduces important key factors, like Sandusky’s adopted son and victim, Matt, Joe Paterno’s wife, two of his son 's, students of Penn State University in 2011, as well as researchers and historians involved with Penn State. Bar-Lev has them open up about their thoughts and feelings on the scandal to focus on how it affected them. Ideally he is affecting the audience’s emotions, allowing them to feel as if they are a part of the story too. Likewise, he focuses on the events leading up to the scandal, the scandal, and the aftermath of the scandal. Bar- Lev likes to produce stories on the difficult and uncomfortable topics that are hard to talk about. He states in a recent interview, “I look for the stories that tweek society’s nerves” (Bar-Lev). Happy Valley, being one of Bar- Lev’s numerous documentaries, does not create an obvious opinion that he holds, instead leaving it up to the audience and their opinions. They are constantly changing their opinions especially on the late Penn State head football coach, Joe Paterno. Paterno knew about Sandusky’s sexual abuse toward the young
Is murder ever justified? Such a dividing question engages the audience to dig into their own beliefs. But the film layers on
This movie explores issues of greed, human relationships, betrayal and redemption, personal innocence and responsibility as well as the effects on the human mind
This movie gives us a perfect example of how a conflict was not handled effectively because assumptions were made, the character jumped to conclusion, due to this the issue became worse than it should have been. The communication dynamics in this was always done through someone else therefore one person would get upset, because he misunderstood the person that was giving him information.
1 All adults have the right to make decisions for themselves unless it can be shown that they are unable to make them. This means that people must not assume that someone cannot make decisions for themselves just because they have a particular medical condition or disability, or because they are of a particular age or appearance.
Often, we think of older people as being smarter, wiser, and generally more mature, but this is not always the case. Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger gives a number of examples that shatter this generalization, offering an alternative to age as the primary factor in one’s level of maturity. Ordinary Grace shows how maturity is a result of circumstance and does not necessarily correlate with age.
2. I picked this film because of the strong message it is meant to put across, considering that Lee wanted the world to acknowledge that while society had experienced significant progress up to the turn of the century, people still had a long way to go in order for the world to be a morally acceptable place. Reading more information about the girls killed during the 1963 Baptist Church bombing really shocked me and made me want to discuss this film.
make decisions when they are older in order to improve their mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing
Although one may think with maturity come freedoms the responsibilities of adult life can be limiting and have adverse effects on life.
The Central Valley is located centrally in the heart of California and is surrounded by two mountain ranges, the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east and the Coast Range to the west. Due to its location, the area is plagued by poor air quality and extremely hot summers. The Central Valley is primarily known for its agriculture. However, for more than five years now, California has been in a drought. It has experienced some of the worst heatwaves in the country, with temperatures ranging from 105 to 110 degrees fahrenheit for months on end. This can be attributed to the rainshadow effect, which leaves the region with very little precipitation for a majority of the year. Most of the moisture filled clouds are blown into the surrounding mountain
to attack the US Army. John Pilger discusses this film by saying “this film offers a vicarious thrill through yet another standard issue psychopath, high on violence in somebody else’s country where the deaths of a million people are consigned to cinematic oblivion.” (“John Pilger On Why The Oscars Are A Con”)
A pursuit is a multi-stage process in which a officer initiates a vehicular stop and a driver resists the signal or order to stop by increasing speed, taking evasive action and/or refusing to stop. In East Valley a pursuit is justified when a vehicle fails to stop after being given a signal to stop by an officer and there is reasonable expectation of a successful apprehension of the suspect. At this point it is the decision of the officer who initiated the stop to pursue the suspect; no other officer should engage in the pursuit because it could pose more risk to the community. Constantly thought the pursuit, the officer should consider the impact and danger the pursuit poses the the community; if the pursuit poses to much of a threat to
So if you compared the film to a documentary or primary source you would notice that this movie is unintentionally biased over the other sources because it visually shows the events with strong emotional connections while a documentary only states facts and opinion’s without much emotion involved because emotion drives subjectivity it causes the viewer to favor one side over the other since allow you to empathize where the emotion is strongest. This movie also gives information but it does not tell where it got the information while a documentary does because it usually has experts of the discussing it and is shows the primary sources used in the documentary so you cannot take the movies information as fact even if it is
This movie is based on politics as two people are competing for the position of the mayor of Newark town. In order to clinch this seat, the two candidates have to use several ways of convincing residents of this town to vote for them. For instance, Booker claims that the current mayor, his competitor, is not good enough to lead this town. He says that the town is not doing well in education and security matters. He proves these claims by saying that the current high school dropout rate is 60%, while murder rates are very high.
Our cognitive processes, such as how we think, remember, decide and perceive, change over time. There is a substantial difference between adult and adolescent thinking. Adult thinking differs in three ways from adolescent thinking: Practical, cognitive flexibility and dialectical thinking. Adults have more flexibility in their thought patterns, understanding that there are multiple opinions on issues, and that there is more than one way to approach a problem (Stassen Berger, 2014). Furthermore, the difference between adolescent and young adult reasoning is particularly obvious when it involves reasoning requiring the conjunction of emotion and logic.
First I will present a basic breakdown of the movie including: who the characters are, their roles, and plot summary. Next, I will present the arguments in regards to the theories of Utilitarianism and virtue theory, and how the film and characters conveyed them. From here I will show the breakdown of the meta-ethical aspects of the film in regards to human nature and how evil attempts to triumph over good. I will conclude by summarizing how these characters had complete disregard for ethics and their own morals.
