Abortions are one of the numerous things that everyone has an opinion on. Abortions have always been a controversial topic in which everyone will not agree upon. In the midst of the controversy, two groups have emerged. These groups are referred to as pro-life and pro-choice. According to Gale Opposing Viewpoints in Context, pro-life supporters claim that life starts at conception, in this manner, abortion at any phase in the pregnancy is killing a child. They believe that life is valuable and the life of the unborn baby has the same rights as the mother. Pro-choice supporters, believes that it is the woman’s right to choose what she does with her body. These pro-abortionists claim that anti-abortionists are truly against the rights of women and free decision rather than the termination of the fetus. Woman should have the right to do what they want with their body. Abortions are performed in various techniques which depend on how far along into the pregnancy a woman is. During the first trimester of pregnancy, there are two choices. A woman can either have a medical abortion, within the beginning of the first nine weeks, or a surgical abortion. According to the American Pregnancy Association, two types of medical abortions include: Methotrexate and Misoprostol (MTX) as well as Mifepristone and Misoprostol. The MTX medication combination is not as commonly used as Mifepristone and Misoprostol which is many people in the United states known as RU-486, the abortion pill,
There are two main political parties you can choose from in the United States, The Democrats and the Republicans. There are also third parties you can choose from. People can choose to be part of any party. We are divided by the left and right side on the political spectrum. The right are more conservative and the left are more liberal. These two political parties show philosophical differences through their viewpoints on major topics. With so many differences between the parties, finding topics or issues upon which constituents agree on can be difficult.
An issue that bothers me is abortions. While abortions are not frequently discussed in today’s news, due to the fact that they were made legal in 1973, by the Roe vs Wade case, abortions are still considered a ‘hot topic’ in today’s politics. This is a topic that gets me ‘fired up’, because my mother got pregnant with my oldest brother at a young age. When she was pregnant with him, many people encouraged her to get an abortion, so that she could pursue a future. Due to her pregnancy, my mother had to put a pause on her education, in order to raise my brother. Despite everything people told her, my mother still managed to pursue her education and career goals. Today, she is the mother of six children and is a registered nurse.
There are a couple types of abortions used, one form is medically. In this process you’re given various medications that are intended to end your pregnancy. Women that choose a medical abortion are willing to undergo a surgical abortion if the first one fails. The medical procedure has a success rate that ranges from 75-95%, with about 2-4% of failed abortions that require a surgical procedure. The process involves bleeding, often heavy just like a period, that must be differentiated from hemorrhage. No matter how much tissue that has passed, a woman must see a doctor to make sure the process is complete. There's a rare and serious
Abortion is a subject that numerous people have strong opinions about; some believe that it is a form of murder and should be banned, yet others believe that the decision should be for the woman herself to make. In my eyes, the choice to abort or not abort is the woman’s, not the public’s. However, many men disagree with pro-choice.
When considering the removal of a fetus you have to consider the development of the embryo and what type of procedure needs to be done. There are several different types of procedures that can take place to abort a fetus but, two main types are the medical and surgical abortions. Within this two categories there are different procedures. There are two different procedures that fall under the medical abortions, the morning after pill and the RU486 (mifepristone). The first option is the
There are four different types of abortion: spontaneous abortion, therapeutic and elective abortion. If a pregnancy ends prior to the twentieth week due to natural causes it is referred to as a spontaneous abortion also known as a miscarriage. Induced abortion is a purposeful termination of a pregnancy in which the physicians refer to it as a therapeutic and elective abortion. The difference between a therapeutic and elective abortion is in which it
Reproductive rights are a very critical and controversial issue in today’s world. What a woman does for her body would appear to ultimately be her own decision and a very private mater but this is not always the case. As women, it is important to remember that the reproductive rights we now have can be easily taken away. Some people take for granted the openness to birth control, condoms, and abortion. President Bush has initiated policies since coming into office that threaten women’s choices.
First, I will discuss the various types of abortion. There are three common types of legal abortion existent in the United States today─the abortion pill, aspiration, and dilation and evacuation. The abortion pill is often called medication abortion, but its scientific name is mifepristone. The first step for this is to have a physical examination by a doctor, and then the health care provider can give the pill that works by stopping the hormone progesterone, which causes the lining of the uterus to break down. Along with the abortion pill itself, antibiotics are received from the health care provider. A second medication, misoprostol, is taken 24 to 48 hours after the abortion pill to empty the uterus. Two weeks later, a follow up examination will take place to confirm that the abortion was successful and that the woman is healthy (Planned Parenthood). Aspiration, or vacuum aspiration, is another form of abortion, and it takes place in a clinic. This works by emptying the uterus with suction using a manual syringe
The debate on whether or not to make abortion legal has been an ongoing conflict since Roe v Wade. On January 22,1973, The Supreme Court made abortion legal in the United States. This decision held that a woman, with her doctor, could request an abortion without legal restriction. State restrictions could be applied in later trimesters. There are usually two sides in this debate. Those who believe in pro life and the others that believe in pro choice. Although another question arises, is there a blurred line between being pro life and being pro choice. Are you able to be both or is the line straight and clear. I myself would have to be in the percentage of people that stay in the blurred lines not teetering on both sides but proudly standing on both.
There are several options that are available and a pregnant lady has several decisions to make regarding abortion. Most women are offered the option to undergo an abortion in the medical clinic. Another viability that may be offered, is the option to have a medication abortion by consuming the abortion pill.
Women tend to recognize that they are pregnant during the four to seven week time span (Pregnancy). By the time a woman discovers that she is pregnant the baby has already begun to grow rapidly. During the first trimester there are two types of abortions that generally occur. The two types of abortion include abortion by medication and aspiration abortion. Abortion by medication is the consumption of medication to end a pregnancy. This form of abortion can be performed until 10 weeks of the pregnancy. Medication abortion is done in two steps. The first step is to take a pill called Mifepristone. After that pill is consumed a woman will take a second pill after a couple hours called Misoprostol. A doctor 's appointment will follow to make sure the abortion is complete. The second
In conclusion, abortion is the process to end a pergnany. There aree two ways: medically and surgically. Into the nine weeks of a pregnancy a surgical process is the only way. Abotion has both a phyiscal and emotional effect on a patient both during and after the two
“When doctors are deciding which procedure to use for the abortion process, they first need to look at which trimester the woman is currently in. Medical abortion can be used from the time a woman suspects and confirms pregnancy up to nine weeks, the first trimester” (UCSF Health).
A deductive argument is an argument that is intended to be valid. It should provide a guarantee of the truth of the conclusion and provide the argument’s premises are true. The premises should therefore give a strong support for the conclusion such that if the grounds are true, then it is hard for the conclusion to be false (Rhodes, 2013). About abortion, many lives have been lost in the recent past. There has been a significant increase in the abortion percentage in the world with several the participants losing their lives in the process.
Many states are restricting abortions based on survivability of the fetus; however, this is left to interpretation. Survivability is not scientific and concrete. For instance, in 2012 a couple of medical ethicists argued a baby outside the womb is no different than in the womb. The newborn baby is dependent on a caregiver for survival (Weikart). The pro-life community has used this argument to defend the anti-abortion stance. The fact it can be argued also, means there is room for agreement. So, how can the agreement be resolved and allow the standard to be set and stop much of the argument? Obviously the radicals on either side will still argue, but the vast majority of the population would be able to agree if the law could be justified by an accepted definition based on scientific proof.
