Censorship, what is censorship truly. A blessing? Perhaps a curse, the Dictionary definition of censorship would be the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. (Google search) Which is true, but is it necessarily a good thing. There are many pros and cons of real world censorship just as there is with many things meant to protect us. Just like a sword, it protects but can cause harm to those in its way.
A common reason for censorship would be the effect certain materials have on our children. Which makes sense due to parents not wanting to let their children mature too fast. Adults need to realize that not every child is raised the same and that going as far as to censor a book from a school completely isn’t going to help anyone. This is an unforgiving world where humans act through the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest with those with knowledge will come out on top and censorship prevents us from learning said knowledge. Now children shouldn’t have to learn the birds and the bees that’s an understandable topic to censor till they’re older and truly ready, but they should know about what they should stay away from in this crazy unpredictable world.
Authors also are affected by censorship. These artists of words spend months to years working on these books and then just like that, their hard work is tossed down the drain. This can be really devastating for an author to have what they worked on for hours and sacrificed so much for be
When Mark twain's books were being banned his response was "Censorship is telling a man he can’t have a steak because a baby can’t chew it” I completely partially with this Idea. I think that all though most of the time censorship is unnecessary and at times even ridiculous, but I also think there are certain situations in which it is reasonable. For instance an Example of a time that it would be ok were if you had like a book like Huckleberry Finn at an elementary school that would make it ok to ban it censor it because that is when the children might still be to young t be read things with that kind of language. Although in cases like it being banned from a public library then it is no longer ok and if it taken to the extreme can even lead to more
Censorship has been adopted in many societies as well as the governments of our world. As the history of the world expands we see many countries try to censor what their citizens see. When the countries do this they are not assisting the country, they are leading it into a self-destruction. A good example of this would be America in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. This nation is destroyed in a futuristic war that only lasts a couple of minutes, if not seconds. Other fitting examples include the Nazi regime and the Soviet Union, both governments censoring their population in what they could read, write, and see. As we know both of these governments did not succeed and ultimately were obliterated and the countries were punished. Government censorship not only wounds the ability for people to grow and expand in their thought process, but it eventually causes the ultimate self-destruction of the nation.
Censorship amounts prohibition of expression of someone’s ideas, thoughts which may be detrimental and prejudicial to a particular class of people. The book Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, revolves around the idea of censorship as a bane to the society and culture. The book touches on various consequences of censorship like social isolation and infringement of thoughts. Bradbury has given an accurate representation of the society leading to an end as censorship proceeds to prohibit literature. Literature is power and censorship is suppressing it. Suppressing
“Censorship is the child of fear and the father of ignorance”. – Laurie Henderson. By banning books, it can deprive children the information or the mental nourishment they will need for life.

Censorship has been around for millions of years. Although censorship is still practised in some countries today, almost anyone would agree that censorship is never the right answer; as we have seen in the past, it has seldomly ever works out. Which is why it is so concerning that schools are starting to allow censorship in classrooms. As a result of this, the world is seeing an alarming amount of young millennials who are fresh into the workforce, expecting to always be catered to. More and more millennials are not being properly prepared for the real world due to censorship in schools; schools have been giving in and catering to students by allowing the censoring of books and microaggressions in the classroom, as a result the students are being taught that the world will cater to everyone, which is very inaccurate.
The subject of censorship is a very controversial one, especially the banning of books. Many people believe they must protect themselves and others from the "evils" of many classic books and works of art because they can be deemed "indecent" in one way or another. Many believe that this is absurd and censorship in its current form is a violation of our First Amendment right to free speech. Personally, I align myself with the latter, however I do feel there are occasions where censorship is justifiable. The censorship of books is a division of censorship that, apart from Internet censorship, receives the most publicity. Banning books is the most popular form of such censorship. Many banned books are literary classics, such as The Catcher in
The Transtheoretical Model is made for individuals to adapt to and maintain a heal behavior change. For example, an individual who has stopped smoking for the past six months has reached the maintenance stage in which chances of relapse are low. Although chances of relapse are low there is still a chance the person may fall back into their old behavior. However, if the individual has reached a stage where they have no temptation for their old habits and they have reached 100% self-efficacy then they have reached the termination stage. This is a very difficult stage to reach since at this stage the behavior change will remain permanently and where relapse does not occur.

Laurie Halse Anderson once said, “Censorship is the child of fear and the father of ignorance.” Censorship, by definition, is suppressing people from looking at books, movies, et cetera. In Fahrenheit 451 and The Book Thief, the government forces their community and the citizens within it to censor out what they read and look at. They do this out of fear of the people turning back on them and rebelling. And sometimes people censor themselves to stay blissfully unaware of the terror that surrounds them.
In the short story, "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allen Poe the most important conflict is between Rodrick Usher, the protagionist, and fear. The conflict increases throughout the story and is eventaully resolved. In the beginning of the story the tension starts when the narrator describes the house he is approaching. He uses words like "dull","dark", and "soundless" to set the mood of the story and then goes on to give the imagery of an eerie, evil house that is starting to fall apart. Upon arriving the narrator seeks his childhood friend Rodrick who is ill.
Censorship can take different shapes depending on the public school system: Schools can give teachers a list of acceptable books to teach, just provide guidelines, or leave it up to the teachers to judge which books are appropriate (Agee, 1999). Teachers are often very nervous about including texts that are not traditional or specifically approved by the school, especially because of the highly publicized cases of teachers whose careers have been ruined because of censorship debates in courts and school systems (Agee, 1999).
Remember the day when you could say anything you wanted without worrying about someone telling you, “That’s not correct”or “don’t say that.” Yes? Everybody does. Many long to live in that era once more; they long to be able to speak their mind in public without anyone thinking they are weird or crazy. Lately it seems as though you have to retain your thoughts inside your mind and not say anything. Many college campuses and websites have started to establish rules which prevent people from saying what’s on their mind and writing or saying something which may harm others.
Censorship has been a touchy topic over the past few years. Everyone has their own opinion on the topic, but the fact is censorship is way more damaging than people may notice. First off, the definition of censorship is to restrain, block, and censor ideas and information that some may find offensive. The basic definition of censorship completely violates the First Amendment. We, as Americans, have the right to Freedom of Speech. Censorship blocks that by blocking anything some may find offensive. It’s not fair because they’re blocking out how people feel/think just because someone found it “offensive” or wrong. It completely contradicts the First Amendment. People have the right to know about the world and what’s happening. Keeping the
Imagine a society without censorship, where everyone knows each other’s secrets, it would be lethal for society. What would happen if people knew one’s weaknesses?. There is evil that needs to be censored. Censorship is necessary in our society for many different reasons. It protects nations, prevents conflict in society, it protects the morals/privacy of people, and it is also helpful for children.
