Unjust Convictions-Revise What did it take to convict Adnan Syed, the supposed murderer of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, was in reality nothing more than just non-solid theoretical speculations along with inconsistencies on the opposing side. Syed was up against (Attorney’s [or is it lawyer?] Name) and her client, Jay Wilds, who is your typical pothead drug dealer. Of course as it is in just about any other case both sides claim to be innocent of the murder, but only one was found guilty despite the fact that the other did still admit to aiding in the disposing of Hae’s still warm to the touch cadaver. The logical answer for the question “How do you convict someone with little evidence?” would be that you don’t, it isn’t possible to assess a person’s guilt or situation without any proof of said crimes to have been committed, it’s just preposterous. There is always the possibility that Adnan was unjustly accused of this crime because he was a main suspect and so this label was bestowed upon him and everyone seem to think he was indeed Hae’s demise. Just about every interview with Adnan’s fellow classman thought of him as good hearted, kind, and just not the type of guy to commit such an atrocity. Even so they were easily persuaded that he did it simply because he was on trial. How impertinent, you need a thesis statement. As is in just about, if not every, argument is the fundamental basis for one’s claims which is to be factual and provable in order to be considered
Justice versus injustice is one of the biggest conflicts in the world as justice lacks one true definition. Socrates goes out to find the meaning of justice, but what he finds is a conflict where the unjust man is not always the loser. The unjust man is better than the just man and the argument that the fair man is superior does not always hold up.
Throughout years in the criminal justice system, women being incarcerated has increased drastically. Since the amount of women offenders increased above male offenders, equality is sought out. There is an expand amount of gender disparities in federal cases. With women seeking equality through justice over the decades, changes should be made within the justice system to provide impartiality, acknowledge the gender difference and it’s importance.
Procedural justice, is concerned with making and applying decisions according to fairness. Rules must be impartially followed and consistently applied in order to create an unbiased decision. Those carrying out the procedures should be neutral, and those directly affected by the decisions should have some voice or representation in the decision-making process such as a jury and its witness testimonies. Procedural justice amounts to four basic actions such as treat people with respect, listen to what they have to say, make fair decisions, and explain your actions. Social justice, is the largest and most important form of justice to most societies. Social justice is about assuring the protection of equal access to liberties, rights, and opportunities,
The main reason so many people have become aware of the unjust system is because of the laws that have been imposed in certain districts. As if the registries are not open to the public, some governments seek more ways to broadcast a person's registry. A judge in a small town of Texas, ruled that sex offenders must post warning signs in the front yard of their homes reading "Danger! Registered Sex Offender Lives Here!" Not only did the judge expect these to be put on their yards but placed on their cars as well. Judge J. Manuel Bañales argued his case because although in Texas the registry is in the newspapers and online he says many people do not look at these. People against Bañales disagreed and said that if the people of the neighborhood
What is misrepresentation? Well, the basic definition of misrepresentation states that it is “the action or offense of giving a false or misleading account of the nature of something” (). In the novels Nectar in a Sieve and Born on the Fourth of July, I was introduced to the idea of misrepresentation, which correlates with the theme of injustice, through the construction of the tannery and the glamorization of the Vietnam war. The lives of both of the main characters from each novel were drastically altered because of false entities that were disguised as supposed opportunities.
There were many issues involving this case. The first being the dispatcher failed to give an accurate depiction of the scene and did not give the full description of the suspect to the responding officers, Garmback and Loehmann. They were unaware that Rice was a child. This led the Officers to believe that they were dealing with an active shooter, so when they arrived at the scene they pulled up within feet of Rice while he was seated, running over a curb. Officer Garmback failed to follow proper tactics when driving the vehicle and violated department policy by not telling dispatchers he arrived at the scene. When the police car made it to the scene Loehmann jumped out and fired his weapon close range. Both officers failed to render first aid to Rice, they just stood over his body and watched. This left people to wonder if the cops have been properly trained to assess a situation and follow the proper procedures the department have in place.
Injustice occurs in many situations everyday and can be a burden to anyone. Injustice is most commonly defined as a violation of the rights of others (dictionary.com). Unfortunately injustice and negativity go hand in hand with each other and are very common among today’s society. The qualification of unjust acts is highly debated. Unfair, unaware, and threatening are all adjectives that can be used to further describe injustice.
The entire experience completely changed how everyone in my family view the unjust system and it brought me to the sharp and sad realization that once someone is in their cross hairs, you are guilty regardless of the truth. All of that could have been spared had the false allegations been properly investigated. The overzealous district attorney was seeking a promotion and only saw the truth as a threat to her conviction percentage, she bullied and threatened our family attempting to get him to sign a plea deal. The sad truth is we live in a world where everyone has an agenda. This toxic problem requires everyone to take off their rose-colored glasses and work together to create legal
The justice system is the structure that promotes the rule of law. A court’s role is to interpret and apply the law that the legislature executes. Courts implement the law to distinct controversies presented before them. They resolve conflicts between companies, people and government entities, however, not all outcomes are just and fair. The message of the film InJustice is to show how the class action lawsuit was cautiously managed by a small group of lawyers who manipulated their clients, procedures, and the legal process to profit from Fortune 500 corporations. The film portrays the rise and fall of lawyers such as William Lerach, Richard Scruggs, and Melvyn Weiss.
Justice, in simple terms, is one of the most important moral laws. Justice is a mean of two extremes: people do not value it as a good but rather because they are too weak to do injustice. To do injustice comes instinctively and is good, but to suffer it is bad. The tipping point between the two is not balanced, which created laws. It is best to do injustice without paying the penalty yet there is rarely man who can do such a thing. A true man would not make an agreement to not do injustice. They should have strength to bear with the punishments that come with being unjust. There is no unison decision on categorizing justice as man has different opinions about it. The three categories that justice is debated to be classified in are: something
Objectives: (1) To investigate whether distributive justice has a positive association with organizational citizenship behaviours among correctional staff. (2). To investigate whether procedural justice also has a positive association with organizational citizenship behaviours among correctional staff
One of my personal injustice moments was when a white male was yelling at two innocent muslim women. The women were minding their buisness waiting in line to purchase some items. I was waiting in line and i hear a mans voice screaming at somebody. I turn around to see a man yelling at these two women for nothing. The man started to call them nasty racist words. He started talking about events that had to do with terrorism. All i could see was the fear in the womens eyes, one women latched onto her friends arm for the feeling of protection and comfort. I myself was as confused and shocked as other people in the store. Somebody in the crowd decided to stand up for the women and started to talk about freedom and how the man should never talk
When one hears the word, justice, one would think of the courts and how people are dealt out punishment based on the law. One may also think of several court cases where the outcome may have been unfair or unjust. It is interesting how justice is perceived by people as justice can mean several things to people, like what is true justice? How is a sentence deemed fair? Most people believe that true justice is when a sentence is given to someone and that the sentence chosen is in line with the crime committed by the person who is deemed guilty. However what if there was a person who committed a murder but had a mental illness. Is it fair to give him the death sentence? Some would say yes because they killed someone, however others would
Justice is seen as a concept that is balanced between law and morality. The laws that support social harmony are considered just. Rawls states that justice is the first virtue of social institutions; this means that a good society is one structured according to principles of justice. The significance of principles of justice is to provide a way of assigning rights and duties in the basic institutions of the society and defining the appropriate distribution of the benefits and burdens of the society. According to Rawls, justice is best understood by a grasp of the principles of justice (Rawls, 1971). The principles are expected to represent the moral basis of political government. These principles indicate that humankind needs liberty and
People see distributive justice through different views. The distribution of goods (or attention, praise, etc.) is analyzed in different ways by different people. There are three principles of distributive justice, these principles are equity, equality and need. Equity pertains to people getting goods or rewards in direct relation to the work they put in or what is perceived to be of greater importance. For example, a star player in the pro-league may deserve higher pay then his/her teammate who warms the bench. Though the two earn different amounts of salary, there is distributive justice (equity) in that they are being fairly paid in correspondence to their contributions to the team. Equality on the other hand, means equal rewards for everyone
