From previous posts it appears folks do enjoy Vegas trivia. There is a never ending supply too, so the challenge to know it all is ongoing. Let's try another one. Did you know this? In 1966, Actor Lee Marvin was filming "The Professionals" in Las Vegas. He along with Burt Lancaster and Woody Strode were checked in at the Mint on Fremont Street. The Mint was just across the street from Vegas Vic, the large neon cowboy that hung on the side of the Pioneer Hotel. During that time Vegas Vic waved his hand and shifted his cigarette. Then, every 15 minutes he would greet visitors with a loud "Howdy Partner." Woody Strode wrote a bio later and told this story. He said that Lee Marvin got drunk one night. He then returned to his room at the Mint
Las Vegas is one of the nation's favorite vacation destinations. Las Vegas, in Nevada’s Mojave Desert, is a resort town famed for its buzzing energy. It's a 24-hour city where gambling is a loved past-time and dreams of striking it rich can come true. Its focal point is the Strip, just over 4 miles long and lined with elaborate theme hotels such as the pyramid-shaped Luxor and the Venetian, complete with Grand Canal; luxury resorts including the Bellagio, set behind iconic dancing fountains; and innumerable casinos.
As I stepped out to the Las Vegas Strip for the first time, the first thing I came across was the massive water show at the Bellagio. With the calm music playing in the background finely tuned with every drop of water I fell in love. Along with the gigantic crowd of people that surrounded me I could feel the warmth of every light bulb that lit up the city that never sleeps. Comparing Las Vegas to my hometown Madrid, I find many differences that only I may be able to depict. Some of the differences include the food, the culture and the demographic of the people in the community. Out of the many differences I chose to compare three things that I found were the most interesting. Madrid and Las Vegas are very different in term of climate, economy,
With the Corporate Gaming Act of 1969, Las Vegas began a slow transition towards “respectability.” Gambling in Las Vegas was gaining in popularity in the 1950’s and 1960’s, but the mob presence itself was preventing Las Vegas from attracting the necessary outside funds to turn it into a dominant Metropolis (204). “Nevada seemed to be shedding this image in favor of the many new family-oriented “theme resorts” that were being built, especially in Las Vegas (204). Then there’s The Rat

The first thing I usually do when I get to Vegas is start people watching. You would be amazed with how different people are in this world.almost everywhere you look you see people dressed up in the most random outfits to mostly get attention from other people. The scariest part about people watching is the ones in the costumes. Considering, I absolutely hate when people dress up in costumes. The random people do the weirdest and craziest stuff and think nothing of it. I could honestly sit somewhere and watch the madness all night.
His own father, Marvin Gay, Sr. killed him at forty-five years old. Gay, Sr. and his wife, Alberta Gay, were in the midst of an argument, and he kept shouting at her. Marvin Gaye separated the two of them, bringing Alberta into his room. He warned his father not to enter the room, but Gay, Sr. ignored him and came anyway. When he continued yelling at Alberta, his son shoved him into the hall and started punching, kicking, and hitting him. Then, Gay, Sr. grabbed his .38 special Caliber pistol. He shot Marvin Gaye two times. The first bullet came into the right side of his chest, puncturing his right lung, heart, diaphragm, liver, stomach, and left kidney. Marvin Gay, Sr. shot the following bullet at point-blank range. Gaye was declared dead when he arrived at at the California Hospital Medical Center. The murder occurred at Marvin Gaye’s house in the West Adams district of Los Angeles on April 1, 1984. After being cremated, his ashes were spread into the Pacific
The city of Las Vegas is considered to be one of the best entertainment locations in the world. Only in Vegas can you find top notch travel amenities and luxurious resorts, accompanied by world class dining and entertainment. Recognized throughout the world, the Las Vegas Strip is the iconic image of dreams and possibilities dependent only on Lady Luck. Not all winning takes place on the craps tables or slot machines. Las Vegas continues to reinvent itself, seeking better and more glamorous ways to enrich the visitors’ experience and score a win for the travel industry. It is this reinvention, this type of guest winning that brings me to discuss and explore the success of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
October 1, 2017 at Route 91 music festival what first seemed to be fireworks, was actual gunfire being shot at the crowd. News around the world stated that Stephan Paddock was the culprit of committing such massacre. Uncovered evidence has claimed that one man was capable of injuring 546 and killing 59 people solemnly within ten minutes. One can conceive with the lack of evidence and coincidence, that this was not the act of one man, but someone with a vendetta towards the American government. But why would someone decide to choose Paddock and what message are they trying to send? Someone with power would only be capable to make a move with little evidence, like this incident, and accomplish it goal.
Las Vegas is a place where a lot can be gained but a lot can be lost. Everything that happens there is based on luck. If you are feeling lucky Vegas might be the option for you. Vegas is a place for risk takers and gamblers and for people trying to achieve something. In Hunter S. Thompson’s novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Duke and Gonzo take a road trip to Vegas. Drugs and alcohol were prominent in the main characters’ journey and the substances were used to show Duke and Gonzo escape from life, their path to find the American Dream and to bring out the truth of the drug culture in America.
On the evening of December 26, 1946, it seemed that Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel had done almost everything right for the debut of the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. The casino was staffed with roulette, craps and blackjack dealers, restaurant and bar workers were ready to serve and the showroom was booked with famous entertainers, radio comedian Jimmy Durante and band leader Xavier Cugat. Siegel reassured Las Vegas residents by advertising the message, “Dress Optional at Anytime. Come as You Are.”
Generally, nightclubs worldwide give ladies free entry than men. Most women get in the nightclubs for free or they pay less than what men have to pay. From my personal experience in Las Vegas nightclub at Omnia, Caesars Palace, I got into the nightclub for free because my friend is a promotor there. He got us onto the guestlist. The guestlist work for everyone, men or women. As long as you and your party are on the guestlist, it is guranteed a free entry. By Civil Rights Act 1964, it is illegal to discriminate based on gender. In this case, men often have to pay extra to get into the nightclub when women can get in for free depends on how "hot" they look. Also, women can get into the nightclub just because they are women and it is a marketing
The Las Vegas Strip is full of surprising views. The Smith family certainly found that out on their family vacation last year. One strip photographer caught this picture of the parents looking appalled and holding back their young child John who looked shockingly cavalier. Why were the parents so scared and the child so calm? After interviewing the family we soon found out that the object of interest was a nude show girl on the Strip. The Vegas Strip was actually “stripping.” This explains the boy’s almost happy grimace. With somber moods the Smith’s have decided to never come back to Vegas as their eyes and their child’s are too “scorned” to ever return. They have recently started touring in their program called We Are Traumatized where they
When walking into “The Strip” in Las Vegas, an instant feel of excitement rushes up. The flashy neon lights paired with glimpses of amazing acrobatics on gigantic screens easily brings up the energy of tourists, businessmen, and gambling addicts. You may wonder how a once stranded desert can transform into such a paradise of skyscrapers. The answer lies in casinos.
Casinos don’t come much bigger and better than Caesars Palace. This is one of the original big Vegas casinos, and it has a fearsome reputation that even the mightiest casinos on the Las Vegas Strip can only dream of. But what it is about Caesars Palace that is so alluring? In this article, we will take a closer look at the global goliath that is Caesars Palace, and see just why it holds such a special place in every Las Vegas gambler’s heart.
I never could quite figure out Vegas' love of the window. I understood there was a lot of action going on that he was taking in: the birds flying by and the squirrels climbing trees, but it was like the window screen was his safety net, and everything outside of that was hot lava. If I even tried to carry him outside the door he would instantly tense up, claw into my shoulder, and make a Carl Lewis leap back inside. I made the horrible mistake of purchasing a cat walking apparatus in an attempt to broaden his horizons. For the whole five minutes I had Vegas on the leash, he easily could have been misconceived as the Tasmanian devil.
