Can you think of a place you frequent that doesn't utilize technology? I sit here writing this paper for my online English class on a laptop, and I have trouble thinking of a day to day action that doesn't require some use of technology. Society has come a long way in the technology department, and it is only getting bigger and better. We can now see who is calling our cell phone from a watch on our wrist. We can see our medical records, test results, and prescriptions on the internet. There is no more waiting for hours in a cold Emergency Room full of sick people, just log in and save your spot online. Law Enforcement has the ability to check an individuals drivers license to find out if they have active warrants. This can lead to getting a criminal off the street faster then in the past. We also have technology to point us in the direction of an offender of a serious crime like Murder. With DNA technology we are able to connect a person to a crime where otherwise leads were slim. CODIS is a computer software program that operates local, State, and national databases of DNA profiles from convicted offenders, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons(US Department of Justice). This database has been beneficial in getting cold cases closed, and repeat offenders off the streets. It also works the other way, by exonerating a convicted individual, and giving back their freedom. Many think that the CODIS system can violate our human right to privacy, but it can't be ignored that several violent criminals have been removed from society because of this system. Police have so many tools at their disposable to help enforce law, and keep our children safer. We know that different people learn in different ways, whether that is visual, using hearing, and some even prefer touching. The Ipad technology helps to touch on all of these different learning styles. We also now have online courses, where an individual can take their courses from the comfort of their home after they get off work. Maybe they are a stay at home mom, and don't want to give up precious time with their children, but want to further their education. This not only makes it convenient but possible for some that wouldn't have otherwise considered going back to school. They have programs where a professor can choose to watch you through your computer while you take a final exam, and even live conferences where you can keep in touch with your teachers. More and more high schools are integrating computer classes in to their curriculum to prepare students for work as an adult. Ninety-six percent of working Americans use new communications technologies as part of their daily life, while sixty-two percent of working Americans use the Internet as an integral part of their jobs (Department of Commerce). This means that it can be difficult for those lacking computer skills to find employment.
There are cons to all of the technology available when it comes to education. Becoming dependent on the internet when doing school work can result in laziness and lose their skill
