Introduction
Very few people might not have heard the name of Bill Gates, a self made multi-billionaire who rose from a humble background to become an American business magnate, investor and philanthropist and is often considered to be the richest man in the world. Gates is one of the best known entrepreneurs of the PC evolution and is best known for his role as the co-founder and the CEO of Microsoft, the multinational American Technology company. Gates has often been criticized for his anti-competitive business modules and his entrepreneurial strategies, reason why his leadership policies have been a constant source of much discussions and dissertations. Gates has authored two books and co-authored several books, which debate the consequences of the personal computer revolution and how he achieved success by integrating business and technology. He has been the highest individual shareholder of Microsoft until May 2014. Gates pursues numerous philanthropic endeavours through his
What would a computer be without an operating system? People wouldn't be able to use computers if it weren’t for Bill Gates' innovative and genius invention. Everyone uses a computer some way, whether it's a phone or a PC. Everyone's life would be very different if it weren’t for Bill Gates’ operating system. Bill Gates revolutionized the computer industry in the following ways: his creation of Microsoft, innovative business strategies, building a software platform, the Bill and Melinda Foundation, and the Common Core Standards.
“People always fear change. People feared electricity when it was invented, didn't they? People feared coal, they feared gas-powered engines... There will always be ignorance, and ignorance leads to fear. But with time, people will come to accept their silicon masters,”Bill Gates. The world’s youngest billionaire is the hard working, intelligent Bill Gates. This man independently started his own computer company and built it up to a 230 billion dollar empire. Bill Gates changed the way the world uses computers by building his company, Microsoft, from the ground up,
About forty years back, in 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen created a company called Microsoft. They were one of the early entrepreneurs to realize the importance of computers in the expanding world of work and made a sustainable business out of it. Microsoft is a leader in the field of computer programming and in these 40 years it has not only been innovative in creating value for itself but has also been instrumental in value creation for thousands of small and big enterprises by way of technical advancement. In the 1970s, at work people relied on typewriters for creating documents and on mimeographs or carbon paper for making copies. It is then that the two young computer enthusiasts, saw personal computing as the path to the future.
Bill Gates is also a man who made a difference in the Twentieth Century, though his passion in the beginning of his career came strictly from knowledge and intelligence. Gates is described by Who’s Who in the Twentieth Century as a “US businessman who co-founded Microsoft Corporation, which in the 1980s became the leading computer software producer.” In 2008, Microsoft was, according to this same source, accused of illegal activities, which led to Gates departure at Microsoft (Phillips, 2008).
Guided by a belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers. Gates' foresight and his vision for personal computing have been central to the success of Microsoft and the software industry. Under Gates' leadership, Microsoft's mission has been to continually advance and improve software technology, and to make it easier, more cost-effective and more enjoyable for people to use computers. The company is committed to a long-term view, reflected in its industry-leading investment in research and development each year (Microsoft, 2011).
A college dropout became the co-founder of the most known company and the richest man in the world with a total capital of $85.2 billion. At age 20, Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft, the biggest PC software company, and after 11 years he became a billionaire. Gates’ achievement is used as an example for many people who consider the college education a waste of time. However, none of them takes on account that before dropping college, Gates attended an exclusive preparatory school where he was an excellent student with remarkable talents. Seattle's Lakeside School, where Gates’ parents enrolled him at the age 13, had an exclusive service from a Seattle computer company - computer time for the students. Considering that Gates was born in 1955,
Recently, I read the book 'Gates, how Microsoft 's mogul reinvented an industry--and made himself the richest man in America ' by Paul Andrews and Stephen Manes in 1994. This was of course, during the time period when Apple was failing, and released an operating system, System 9, that nobody needed nor wanted in 1994. IBM sure wished they haven 't filed those separation papers now, when Microsoft stock stormed overhead, selling out of Windows 95 in less than two days globally. Over 2 million copies in fact, and the first publically available windows that didn 't run on top of MS-DOS, our ancient overlord. This book told the secret life of the ruler of the entire technology industry all the way to present day.
In 1975, a man named William “Bill” Gates started the company know as Microsoft through his interest of business and managing people. Ever since his early education, he became very competitive and driven to
Standing on One Microsoft Way, Redmond, Washington, one is simply flabbergasted at the nearby mountainous office towers, studded with immaculate windows, hazily reflecting the sun. How did one man, Bill Gates, establish these headquarters and virtually mold this 370$ billion company from so little? Many would argue that his intrinsic genius, inherited traits, and sheer brilliance are to blame for his success; after all, he is the wealthiest man in America. However, few know of the objective factors that are highly likely to lead to one’s success, such as environment and upbringing, their work ethic, and their familial connections as well as ability to plan. In this case, Bill Gates come from an extremely well to do family, and thus attended and lived two blocks from one of the nation’s most prestigious schools, Lakeside in Seattle. Lakeside had one of the nation’s first computer clubs, and computers, even before most American universities did! Therefore, a ninth grade Bill Gates was able to do computer programming in 1968, far before any other kid and most professionals had the same opportunity. Ultimately, this plethora of extremely fortunate and lucky circumstances, coupled with his genius and work ethic, has allowed Gates to amass the fortune he holds today, and experience such an astronomical degree of success.
Bill Gates is not only a genius, but also an innovator in education, technology, and philanthropy. A prodigy, Bill Gates shares an education fact with Abraham Lincoln, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and even his competitor Steve Jobs: no college degree. Instead, he devoted his time to his passion for technology, going on to create the most profitable technology company in the world. For much of the past decade, Gates allocated both his profit and attention to philanthropy. Evidence of his innovation, industry and curiosity can be seen at an early age.
Mr. Gates’ also explains how Microsoft tackled the challenge of integrating the Internet to be compatible with various Microsoft products. The biggest dilemmas were determining what should be incorporated into the existing Microsoft products, what should be packaged as new products, and how should the Windows Operating System support the Internet. He gives frequent examples of how the other competing computer industry giants were able to succeed in the computer industry. A lot of success he points out was made through trial and error as well as learning from one’s mistakes. He talks about how Microsoft has learned from projects that have failed such as the Multiplan spreadsheet that went on to be developed into Microsoft Excel, and the Omega database that would become Microsoft Access. One suggestion that Mr. Gates makes in achieving company success is by
When it comes to the term “revolution” we probably don’t often associate a company like Microsoft for initiating significant changes to our lives or the way we live them. Nonetheless, Bill Gates and his team of “techies” have brought about a revolution of change in the field of technology, particularly the Windows operating system. Microsoft has changed the way we use computers and they have incorporated themselves into nearly every aspect of our lives. We use Microsoft or programs created by them every day without ever thinking of what the world would be like without their technology. Microsoft was founded in 1975 by the iconic Bill Gates and Paul Allen. By 1980, it was clear the Microsoft was a little company with a big dream.

On the 10th November 1983 Microsoft founders Paul Allen and Bill Gates announced their company’s next generation graphic user interface operating system (OS). Windows OS was launched in 1985 by Microsoft and since then it has been the most popular OS available on the market, overtaking its competitor Mac OS which launched in 1984. The main advantage of the Windows OS was its user friendly nature. It was the beginning of a new era for OS technology as it allowed the average user to access the PC without any complexities. Throughout the history of the world there have been revolutions, martyrs, and innovations that have changed the course of mankind. As history has proven, one person can have an effect on many, one action can excite anything, and one invention can change the whole world. In the case of the developing world of technology, many tried, but only a few could get a stake in the fast moving industry and throughout it all one name has stamped their name on the PC business, Microsoft.
