Stephen Covey was an American businessman, author, educator, and keynote speaker. “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” is known as being his most popular work and he has since written several other books, some of which have expanded on the seven habits. “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” does not only entertain the idea of becoming an entrepreneur and making money, but it is also a guide that can be used to find means of living a meaningful and fulfilled life. With that being said, if used correctly, the concepts that are addressed in this book can provide one with an enlightened outlook on the way that they conduct business and their personal lives in an effective manner. Among other things, the book explores the paradox of being a successful businessperson and being a good person. The first habit is simply, to “be proactive.” With that being said, Covey goes into great detail concerning what being proactive really means. Being proactive means taking responsibility for your own life and being in charge of the way that it turns out. There is a countless amount of things that people can blame for their misfortunes, but the proactive person will choose to focus on only the things that they can control. It is easy to let exterior forces get in the way of how you live your life, but you must not let these obstacles stand in your way. You must take responsibility for how you respond to them.
