The first topic for this paper will be to discuss the significance of family. Early on in the course, class began with an exercise presented in which we were instructed to define “family”. Almost immediately it was clear that individuals each have their own definitions of what they hold as their belief of family. There were also strong opinions with regard to how the textbook defined family. There were lengthy discussion on different types of families identified as two-parent, in-tact nuclear families; single parent households, which could be either single father head-of-household or single mother head-of household; blended families, which could include children from previous relationships brought together as a family with, or …show more content…
It is critical in improving overall personality. It also assists in shaping the direction lives will lead. It teaches the value of love, care, affection, self-confidence, and truthfulness and provides tools and resources which are essential to obtaining success in life. Family is a place where you can be free to be yourself. It is a place where you’re admitted and accepted for what and who you are, thus there are no terms and conditions. This is supposed to be a place where you’re completely tension and stress-free and all members are there to assist and support you. Family sustains you when you are surrounded by troubles and is the foundation on which you depend on while navigating the way through the problems and difficulty of everyday living. It helps you endure through tough times and bring joy and pleasure into life. Family is the safe place and harbor from the storms and the celebration of the successes. Professionally, I would remain cognizant that to some “family” is a feeling or bonds to a relationship or groups of people regardless of formal or societal establishment. I would recognize that all families require a continuous effort to balance everyone’s needs and wants and that stress levels are affected by the constantly changing demands placed on each of them. Personally, I chose this career path because I believe that family counseling lessens the caregivers’ sense of responsibility for meeting all the needs of all the members and gives each
Family, is where you celebrate accomplishments together. It’s the place where you can support each other during the good and bad times and cling to in times of deep sadness. Family can provide the emotional fuel to keep going when the going gets tough. But there must be something going on outside of the family, some career, for there to be a need for this support .
The idea of family is a central theme in Lorraine Hansberry’s play A Raisin in the Sun. Hansberry alludes to the Old Testament book of Ruth in her play to magnify “the value of having a home and family”(Ardolino 181). The Younger family faces hardships that in the moment seem to tear them apart from one another, but through everything, they stick together. The importance of family is amplified by the choices of Walter and Beneatha because they appear to initiate fatal cracks in the Younger family’s foundation, but Mama is the cement who encourages her family to pull together as one unit. The hardships of the family help develop a sense of unity for the Younger household.
A family is a group a group of people related by blood, adoption or assimilation. Nobody can deny the fact that nothing as important as a family. Family is a bond, a long lasting relationship between individuals. A close family bond is like a safe harbor where one feels secure and assured that there is always someone who they can lean on when they need them the most. Families instill morals and beliefs from generation to
Determining family structure and dynamics as well as defining the family is a complex process. Personally, I come from a very traditional family. Much like the assumptions made by the students in the article Defining Family: Young Adults’ Perceptions of the Parent-Child Bond by Mellisa Holtzman (2008). This is what comes to mind when most people define family; a nuclear family, with married parents, and biological children. However, a family is a complex system and can take on many different forms.
My family? You actually want to use these few minutes to read about my family? Well, let me just say one thing: we are all so, very different. So, making connections is easier said than done. Yet, I have made a few crucial connections with my cousin Hayley, my cousin P.J., and my mother.
The concept of family can often be seen as the foundation a person is made upon. Everyone has a family whether it’s an actual biological family or close friendships that are now considered family. Many American values can be sourced from family because that’s where someone comes from so it is more than likely that a family shares the same values such as honesty, religion, and equality. It is generally said that you choose your friends and not your family. This makes the bond between family members extremely strong to the point of doing anything for a family member or never losing hope for them. In all three books, The Round House, The Heretic’s Daughter, and The Color Purple, the American value of family is exemplified.
Family by its nature is a social unit wherein children grow up and it acts like the socialization agent. Children receive their earliest and most consistent socialization here in the family. In a family it is very important as to how parents cater the needs of their children and how children take care of them in return. Parents as well as the child are very important part of the developmental process, as it is the parents who will shape the children as what they will become. The parent child relationship influences each other and together they shape the relationship they engage in it.
All of my life all I ever wanted was to be accepted by my family. Both families said negative things about me all the time. My mother’s side of the family would say things like, “oh, she is crazy just like her father’s side”. In other words they were saying I was mentally challenged and had behavioral health problems. That was something I didn’t see, understand nor did I know anything about. Then my father’s side of the family would say things like, “oh, she is just like her mother’s side a whore sleeping around with men”. We know now where that came from because my father was married to someone else when I was conceived. Oh well, it is what it is.
What does the word family really mean? Although family is often thought about as being related by blood or marriage, this is not always the case. The definition of this word has more depth than dictionaries usually provide. Words are not restricted to having just one meaning. Based on the situation it is being used in, this word can take on many different definitions. Almost everyone has his or her own opinion on what the word family means. The meaning of family to one person may be different to someone else. While all of the definitions may be defining the same word, each one differs greatly from the next due to the fact that each family is structured differently.
I have a big family including two extremely strict and traditional parents, three brothers, and a sister. my parents are great parents who care about their five children well being and education. however they are over protective and not understanding. the dynamic of the family is very enmeshed. in a sense emashed families are good to have. however, mashed families at the expose of members having their idependce is not. My parents are traditional and have set values and beliefs. It is hard for my siblings and i to have a conversation with them. They do not understand the new culture and generation. my siblings and i can not have a real conversation with them that does not involve school, or home-life. They constantly complain that we do talk to them. But there is a reason why we do not communicate. they are judgmental and critize the things we do.
The family is one of the oldest but most important institution known to man and the society in which he/ she lives. According to the U.S. Census Bureau (2005) a family “consists of two or more people, one of whom is the householder, related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing in the same housing unit. A household consists of all people who occupy a housing unit regardless of relationship. A household may consist of a person living alone or multiple unrelated individuals or families living together.” Therefore, during the course of time, the family structure has evolved, in some cases, changed which resulted in different family structures forming. Two of the most important are the traditional family structure and the modern family structure. As a result, various theorists have his/ her own views of these two family structures. With the views expressed by those theorists, it
No one can’t meet a family like mine’s. My family is well diversified. Every family member plays an important role in all my family’s lives. In my family, there are four people: my father, my mother, my little brother and me. My father is one who brings money home and is also responsible for organizing and planning family trips. My mother is the one who is in charge for making meals and makes sure everyone eats at the appropriate times. My little brother is the pet of the family. He actually doesn’t have any responsibilities, for he’s the pet. I am the rock of support in my family. I always go beyond my parents’ expectations. I also support my younger cousins and little brother, by being a role model that they can look up to. Another
Family comes first. That is a saying my family lives by. I grew up in a house of love, where every morning starts with a hug and family dinners were a must. Growing up, grandparents and great grandparents were an important part of everyday life. I grew up luckier than most people in regards to having my grandparents close to home. For my whole life my grandma, Marcia, lived down the street from me and my other grandparents all lived within a twenty minute radius of us. This made it easy to have weekly tuesday night ice cream parties and family dinners on a weekly basis. Being surround by so much love and support growing up really helped shape me into the person I am today.
Upon Julian’s arrival, David started to feel his life really getting back on track. It had been only four months since they’d seen each other, but in many respects it felt like years. Since David didn’t feel like the same guy who had left Canada in June, it seemed that more time had passed than actually had, but neither their friendship nor their music had lost a beat. Julian had cut his shoulder length hair to mid-neck, changed his dreads to twists, and had been working out, so his body was more toned and muscular than ever. He’d turn 18 next month, but could pass for 23. His black eyes were as clear and piercing as ever, his nature as curious, and his mind as limpid. The deep red bedroom at the end of the hall became his room, and he
The definition of family is a group of individuals involving parents and children. When focusing on the word group, we find that the definition of a family may involve a common goal; in this case, caretaking and learning. We all may sometimes dislike our families and find them hard to deal with, but our families have the greatest impact on our development of all. We are with our families before anyone else, and this is reflected in how great of an impact the family system has on human development. My family is by no means a healthy family structure, and I figured that out early enough to accept it by now. I have witnessed abuse, drug use, mental illness, wrongful death, even homelessness. My family has taught me both acceptable and corrupt
