“When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free” (U.S. President Barack Obama, 2013). As early as 1924 our country has debated the idea of gays. In 1969 The Stonewall riots sparked the gay rights movement. In previous weeks debates continue involving the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016. However, our nation has fought for the ability to be equal, to embrace differences, and to build upon different ideas and cultures. Although, prejudice and discrimination still lerk among the hearts of Americans who will argue negative consequences involving the ability of same-sex marriage; yet embracing same-sex marriage supports financially, will support children involved, and …show more content…

Among young influential minds, The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington DC. evoked foster care placement to prevent the ability of children being placed in homosexual homes. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights article 16 states, “Men and women of full age, without any limitation...have the right to marry...found a family... entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution…” (UDHR, 1948). Not defending the ability to same-sex marriage. In New Jersey a Methodist Ocean Grove Camp declined a Civil Union Ceremony. Religious beliefs argue that in the bible God does not promote or support gay marriage. Supporting their reasons in the bible, as stated by God, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither...nor homosexuals...will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1st Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV)). Debates continue in several schools. At a school in Florida a social studies teacher posted a comment on facebook criticizing same-sex marriage. In other schools teachers dismissed students involved in homosexual relationships claiming to be uncomfortable. Therefore, many will argue the several consequences to allowing same-sex marriage, but the inability to see past the discrimination among Americans prevent a growth in our society. In the article “Same-sex marriage protects Families and Children in Many Way” the author points out that “Parenting by same-gender couples is an established and growing part of the diverse structure of families in the United states.” (same-sex, 2015). Therefore embracing Americans diversity and promoting differences have lead to same-sex marriage being permitted and eventually accepted. Promoting same-sex marriage will financially support couples because it will allow both parties to put both names on title to a home, etc. In previous studies, 34.3% of lesbian couples and 22.3% of gay couples are raising children nationwide. Researches have proven that children who grow up up with married parents benefit that the relationship is recognized by the law. Arguing that being a good parent is not based of whom each other love, but on how on is treated and cared for. Also proven in studies shows that married couples have higher levels of happiness and less sickness than those who are unmarried. By promotion of same-sex marriage finacial support will increase, children will grow, and same-sex marriages will live happily and
