The Story Of Scrooge

At the beginning of the story, Scrooge isn’t really happy. He hates everything in the world. The one thing that he cares about is his money. Greed is the thing that drives him to be a lonely monster that nobody likes. When his business partner Bob Marley died, and his Girlfriend broke up with him. Shortly after Bob Marley died Scrooge got a ghostly visit from him. Marley told him if that he didn’t change he would die and nobody will care. First he needs to prove it to three ghosts.

As it is shown in A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is a man that cares mainly about his wealth. In the beginning of the story he is asked to give money to the less fortunate and destitute, his response is shocking, Scrooge says,” … I can’t afford to make idle people merry… they cost enough”. The men are tremendously disgusted by his statement. Scrooge shows that he mainly cares about keeping his wealth to himself, he doesn’t feel the need to give to others who are less fortunate. After they continue to speak, Scrooge also states,” If they would rather die, they better do it, and decrease the surplus population”. Scrooge feels that if people are going to be poor and not have as much wealth as him, that they should be put to work in factories, or they should just go away altogether. The Ghost of Christmas Present showed Scrooge many happenings from the people Scrooge knows, but the Ghost also showed him people he doesn’t know and probably never will, people who are suffering themselves. After the Ghost showed Scrooge the Cratchit’s household and his nephew’s house, he showed him people far from home, people in jails, people in hospitals, and people who were simply struggling. The Ghost blessed each of those people, the people that he had no relation to, the people whom he knew nothing about. Their struggles were relieved, the struggling more patient, the sick healed, and so on. In doing this, the Ghost showed Scrooge that although Scrooge was not magical, one person’s blessing can impact many people. He showed Scrooge that kindness and generosity can make the biggest difference, and caring about others, caring about all others, can create a big change and be beneficial to everyone.

Overly grumpy and has extortionate avarice, this is Scrooge. Scrooge may also be malcontent, and he is this little miserly ol’ curmudgeon. Happiness, kindness, and Christmas, Scrooge hates, until a clique of three apparitions comes and shows him otherwise. May I also add the fact that Scrooge is not very liberal, instead he is odious, and misanthropic. This man was a miserable, depressed, heavy-hearted man. According to the text, no one ever stopped Scrooge in the street to say, with a gladsome look, “My dear Scrooge, how are you? When will you come to see me?” Scrooge has an unfortunate reputation of being antisocial, depressed, negative, untrustworthy. Extremely uncaring, and thoughtless to the poor people, Scrooge is, as he thinks there is a jail for poor people. In general, Scrooge is just very negative. The triplet of ghosts comes to show Scrooge the reasons of why it is bad to be negative, antisocial, and untrustworthy. Also, Scrooge is very much a gargantuan jerk. The three ghosts give Scrooge a last chance to change his unfortunate, bad reputation into a fortunate, positive reputation.

During his encounters with the Ghost of Christmas Past, he had seen his relationship and mood change. When he was a little boy in school, Scrooge was more concentrated on his schoolwork. He shut himself out at the early age, and was alone for most of his childhood, leading to his misunderstanding of compassion. When he was older, he had stayed at the schoolhouse for most of his childhood, until he went home with his sister. Because of this, the years to come were Scrooge’s most cheerful years, in which he is apprenticed by a good man. In the final years of his prime, he had relationship troubles and was losing his nobler aspirations. When his love had left him, he probably became the Scrooge we find in the beginning of the story. The Ghost of Christmas Past’s actions left Scrooge scared, yet curious to see what the Ghost of Christmas Present will show to him.

The text explicitly states Scrooge, a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, clutching, covetous, old sinner has passed away. According to the text, he despises many things such as happiness, humor, and even Christmas. From the reading, I know that he is depressed all the time, consequently his mental state has led him to call other people stupid, dumb, and idiots. On page three, in the conversation with his nephew Fred, Scrooge insults his nephew about marrying and loving his wife. The text states, that he also “seized the ruler with such energy of action, that the singer fled in terror, leaving the keyhole to the frost and even more congenial frost.” From the reading I know that Scrooge isn’t a people person and is very down about life. Based on the text he doesn’t really like being around them. For example Scrooge didn’t donate any money to the poor, and blew off his nephew about spending Christmas with them. In the text it states that there is no wind as bare as Scrooge, this means he doesn't really care or doesn't have many feelings.

Why was everyone talking about the dead man, mean old Scrooge. According to the text no one even cared about Scrooge, they didn’t even care he died they just left him to die alone. A few examples of quotes are “He frightened everyone away from him when he was alive, to profit us when he was dead.”That quote describes Scrooge. That quote describes Scrooge. Another quote that describes Scrooge is “If he wanted to keep them after he was dead, a wicked old Scrooge.” One last example is “Spirit, said Scrooge shuddering from head to foot. I see I see, the case of this unhappy man. They all show how Scrooge was a bad person and how no one liked him and the only person that did died and his name was Jacob Marley. Scrooge is a very mean person and he doesn't care for anyone, he will be an old miser and he could care less about anything in the world except himself.He does mean stuff all the time liked decline charity and he doesn't even wanna make the world a better place.He even declined his nephews invite to a Christmas party now that's mean and when he's asked to donate for charity he is too much of a greedy soul to do anything to help anyone and he says that they need to go to a workhouse or prison, He doesn't care about anyone and he ignores everyone and could care less about the world's problems. He thinks that that is ok and then he gets a visit from a ghost saying that three ghosts are gonna come get him and that he shouldn't have been that greedy and he is gonna get a visit from them. Scrooge is freaking out and it takes him a while and he eventually gets sent to bed. In my opinion, though he is acting like that because Marley died and he is emotionally depressed and he takes his pain out on others because he is very said that's just my opinion.

One such quote that depicted his cheapness was,” Darkness is cheap, and Scrooge liked it” (Dickens, 15). He preferred the darkness because then he didn’t have to pay for the electricity bill. He even refused to give donations to the two men who came collecting money for the poor (Dickens, 10). Scrooge didn’t want to give his money away, and instead, wanted to keep it all for himself. In addition, he didn’t allow Bob to take the day off on Christmas (Dickens, 12).

Ebenezer Scrooge was a slave to his desire for wealth would be an understatement. His very innate being was controlled by this one all consuming want, and it infected and ruined every relationship he was ever part of. However, Mr. Scrooge isn’t remembered necessarily for his greed, rather he’s remembered for his drastic change at the end of the novel. In the beginning of the novel when Mr. Scrooge is approached by two gentleman in order to make a Christmas donation Scrooge says that, “If they would rather die they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population”(11). Mr. Scrooge does not care about his fellow people, all he cares about is their cash. He is a foul and nasty character. However after being visited by three ghosts he starts to become a better person. His transition begins when the Ghost of Christmas Past shows him how he alienated his love and how he lost his sister as well. This starts to put a crack in his psyche and is the beginning of his transformation. Next he is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Present who shows him the awful conditions that his employee Bob Cratchit is suffering, no thanks to Scrooge. The fact that Mr. Cratchit’s son Tim may soon die because of him wears away at Scrooge’s facade of heartlessness even more, but the transition isn’t yet complete. Although he asks the Ghost of Christmas Present whether Tim Cratchit will live and is “overwhelmed with penitence and grief”(63), his despair at the young child’s

He has money,but isn’t happy and people think he should be. In the book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Scrooge has loads of money, but is greedy. Scrooge is selfish and doesn’t give to charity.

We see at the start of the novel, two men ask Scrooge for donations to help the poor this Christmas, Scrooge turns them done saying if they needed money they should make money. Going to the past, present, and future gave Scrooge a new understanding of how his attitude could affect everything. By the end of the novel, Scrooge is a kind heated man who buys turkey for a struggling family with an ill child. He gives them presents and sits around a fire singing songs with the whole

In the Story we learn about Scrooge, but more more importantly we learn lessons. We learn from Scrooge and how to start caring and to give more. We just need that little push just like with Marly and Scrooge. Scrooge was a very rude old man that absolutely despite the fact of kindness being friendly and even Christmas.
