Introduction Many careers today benefit from the foundational knowledge of biological psychology, some on the form of new understandings of technology and new understandings of brain and body communication. The selected research problem is the effects on stress in the reintegration process and how it can create obstacles when it comes to treating and trying assist reintegrating service members and their families. Using the foundational knowledge compiled from years of research in the field of psychology, neurobiology, and biological psychology. Using research done by other psychologists we will look at a hypothesis created based on the issue and explain how the hypothesis can be verified and the validity of the research.
Today there are many careers and areas of expertise that can greatly benefit from the foundational knowledge of biological psychology. The first and most prominent field that comes to mind that can and does benefit from the knowledge provided by biological psychology is the medical field. The reason for this is due to the fact that in the medical field one must have a deep understanding of the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. During surgery if a connection is severed the repercussions could be egregious, the patient could potentially be paralyzed, and the medications administered could have a negative effect on not only the body but also the biochemistry of the brain as well, leading to further complications. Another reason for the
(AC1) Two perspectives in psychology are the behaviourist approach and the biological (also known as physiological) approach. These perspectives consist of different theories, research methods and treatments in relation to mental illness.
Biological psychology, of biopsychology, is the application of the principles of biology to the study of mental processes in terms of bodily mechanisms. The view that psychological processes have biological (or physiological) correlates, is the basic assumption of the whole field of biological psychology. Biological psychology is a hopeful domain, one that has much to offer in terms of improving the quality of life of the healthy as well as those suffering from disorders. It also contributed important therapeutic data on a variety of conditions, including: Parkinson 's Disease, Alzheimer 's Disease, Clinical depression, Schizophrenia and a lot others. Humans have very complex nervous system, they use neurons and neurotransmitters to make the highest active communication network throughout the body. “most of the body’s neurons are found in the central nervous system(CNS), which consists of the brain and spinal cord” (psychology 5th edition). “Neuroscience emphasizes that the brain and nervous system are central to understanding behavior, thought, and emotion. (Van Horn, 2014; Zhao & others, 2014). Therefore, for biological psychologist all that is psychological is first physiological. All thoughts, feeling & behavior ultimately have a biological cause.” We are benefited from biological approach for diagnosing and treating human brains Ex. Schizophrenia. Scientists are also able to create medications for different types of illnesses. Besides having psychologists
The purpose for this research proposal is to find out if spouses are under more stress than the returning soldier. PTSD is a growing problem in returning veterans. The importance of this topic is to contribute to the exiting research on PTSD and the effects on children, especially the spouses of the returning soldiers. The impact of the returning soldiers on the spouse and families does not appear to be getting the attention it deserves, since the main focus appears to be on the retuning soldier. The method used in this proposal is quasi-experimental, because
The person I am writing about is experiencing troubles with their thoughts and behavior. In social situations they have difficulty expressing emotions when in social gatherings, they can be paranoid and think there is someone watching them, and they have issue with separating what's real and imaginary due to voices that they hear in their head. Because of the hallucinations that they hear and the irrational thoughts and feelings that they experience, functioning in everyday life can be extremely difficult for them to do. The person suffers from schizophrenia. Biological A biological psychological theorist would say that the person in question is suffering from potentially a few different things that are causing the schizophrenia. There is a
For some, the impact of deployment can have serious repercussions on their psychological health. Combat duty is associated with traumatic events and exposure to war atrocities that may result in persistent psychosocial issues during or subsequent to
In this essay I will be looking at different approaches and theories used in psychology.
Whether it is the study of biopsychology and other fields of psychology or neuroscience, all psychologists and scientists are trying to understand the functions of the brain. The body and mind connection and how it reacts to certain behaviors or illnesses. Most all psychological functioning can be reduced to underlying brain processes. This should serve as reason alone as to why biology plays an important part in the study of psychology. Psychological factors play a role in whether a person develops a mental illness and in how well they recover from a mental illness, yet biological and genetic risk factors, or predispositions, are
For example, with depression it’s important to know what the symptoms and causes are that way you can correctly identify and treat it, whether it’s with medication or therapy. It’s also important to understand the biological basis of behavior and how it’s described and defined to validate theories. For example, knowing the anatomy of the brain and the purpose of each lobe and effects that they have on behavior will help in therapy. Like the hypothalamus, it takes part in almost all aspects of behavior. On the other hand, the Limbic System is involved in emotions, sexual behavior and memory, etc. Knowing that neurotransmitters play an important part as well in biology and behavior is crucial. For example, most behaviors are produced by groups of neurons. An example of small molecule neurotransmitters is serotonin, which is synthesized from food and affects the regulation of your mood. These are a few examples of the importance of having the knowledge necessary in Biology that will help with approaches to different clients. (Kolb)
The Biological Perspective: This is the study of exactly how the physical events within the physical body interact with the events in the external environment. This is expressed by our perceptions, memories, behaviors and interactions with everything around us. We can think about our heredity and genetic makeup and the influences that has on each one of us as an individual. Then think about the stress of poor health and illness and how we may express our emotions with those around us. Since we are diverse as individuals we rely on our physiological make up and the stimuli of our environment to adapt to each situation. This human biology helps us to constantly adapt and survive in an ever-changing world.
In my research, the information suggests that there is a strong associating with biological and psychological theories can be argued that the ideology can connect some sociological and economic theories. The review of the theories provided a wide range of possible leading variables, methodologies, ideologies that could be argued as political. Furthermore, political theories can be categorized as the political ideology for political
The biological processes of colour perception which happen in the brain are innate and contribute towards the way in which individuals view colour. Cones and rods work together in order to create the colour that is perceived. The psychological processes are related to the way each individual person perceives colour, and thus may be different to the next. Colour perception is different for everyone, something that is light blue to one person, may be light green to another person. Both the biological and psychological processes work together. A range of processes will be discussed throughout this essay and will demonstrate differences in the
Without biological psychology medicine would not advance because no one would be able to research it. Though biological psychology only seems like research, it also involves teaching other people about biological psychology. The United States Society needs biological psychology because it helps individuals understand why humans may feel some sensitivity after they lose a limb. Biological psychologists are a necessity to the United States society because we would not have modern medicine without them. Without biological psychologists we would not understand how various health issues happen and we would not have any treatments for disease. The United States need biological psychologists to research medicine and test it on animals to better human health. These people help the United States Society in a scientific way. Many of these biological psychologists study different fields within psychology. For example, someone studying biological psychology may want to have a concentration in clinical and counseling
1. Biological and psychological are two of the three general categories from the six major theories of motivation. Two biological influences on hunger are the chemical signals and the brain structure. Chemical - Thermogenesis is the heat generated in response to food ingestion (pg. 386). Brain – Hypothalamus helps regulate eating, drinking and body temperature (pg. 386).
The discussions on the permissibility or impermissibility of abortion move around justice, including the rights to life and body autonomy, and morality based on the characteristics that define human beings.
With each choice you take, each judgment you make, there is a conflict in your psyche; a fight amongst instinct and rationale. Moreover, the instinctive piece of your brain is significantly more intense than you may might suspect. The vast majority of us get a kick out of the chance to believe that we are equipped for settling on sound choices. We may on occasion depend on our gut nature, however in the event that essential we can approach our forces of motivation to touch base at a consistent choice. Usually, we surmise that we have purposes behind what we trust, that is frequently a misstep.
