Abstract:
India is a one of the key markets of counterfeit products in South Asia which has negatively affected its economy since many years. The trade of counterfeit and pirated products hamper the development of knowledge and innovation as it can greatly reduce the economic benefits for the original creator of products. Widespread and rampant piracy and weak intellectual property rights (IPR) dilutes the development of local industry and also endangers the huge investments made in research and development work of organizations. This can lead to loss of competitive advantage as the competitiveness of firms is driven by the firm’s ability to innovate and create new products churned from its knowledge capital. Counterfeiting and piracy can exist in the market from within or due to imports from a foreign market but flourishing or controlling of it can be understood majorly by understanding the attitude of Indian consumers towards purchase of counterfeit and pirated products. The studies so far particularly considering IPR infringements have been skewed towards Pharmaceuticals, Entertainment and Information Technology. This paper attempts to investigate and understand the Indian consumers’ awareness of IPR infringements and their attitudes and intention towards purchase of Home Appliances based on psychographic and demographic factors.

During the 16th, 17th and early 18th centuries, piracy was rampant in the Atlantic, specifically in the West Indies. Piracy has existed since the earliest days of ocean travel, for a range of personal and economic reasons. However, one of the major reasons why piracy was wide spread and rampant in the 16th, 17th and early 18th centuries was Great Britain’s endorsement and usage of piracy as an asset; in wars fought in the New World. Great Britain with its expanding power and conflicts with other nations would make piracy a lifestyle and lay down the foundation for the Golden Age of Piracy and eventually bring what it created to a screeching halt.

That is, after all, how companies are able to succeed, by giving their customers a comparable product for a cheaper price. This increases sales and the overall bottom line. The Silk Road was an intricate and evolving network of overland trade routes that linked China, India, and western Eurasia for centuries. The trade route was key to the diffusion and transportation of technology, goods, religions, and language throughout Asia, the Mediterranean, Africa and southern Europe. As the strongest link between major population centers in the largest landmass on earth, the Silk Road was one of the most important of all long-distance trade routes in human history.
Long before there were trains, ships and airplanes to transport goods from one place to another, there was the Silk Road. Beginning in the sixth century, this route was formed and thus began the first major trade system. Although the term “Silk Road” would lead one that it was on road, this term actually refers to a number of different routes that covered a vast amount of land and were traveled by many different people. Along with silk, large varieties of goods were traded and traveled along this route both going to and from China. Material goods were not the only thing that passed along this path, but many religions were brought into China via the Silk Road. These topics will be discussed in detail in this paper.
Getting slaves to the coast was not a streamlined process. The commodities involved in trade on the Atlantic market changed over a few centuries. The peak demand for slaves, at the turn of the nineteenth century, caused an influx of commercial opportunities for slave traders within Africa. At this time the Atlantic slave trade, for Africans, became more than just an outlet for making profit on war prisoners, who by tradition, before the arrival of Europeans, would have just been killed. The Atlantic Slave trade became an outlet for the strengthening of political power. Anyone who had a subordinate was likely to take advantage of the Atlantic market, often times sending their own family or kin to the coasts in exchange for goods and political gains. With the use of deception, families and spouses were able to sell off their own in order to reach their own goals, all at the price of the imprisoned slaves mental state. The use of deception in the slave trade amongst families and tribes is the first step in the commodification of slaves. The use of deception and kidnapping played a role in the complete alienation of captured slaves leading to this idea of the slaves experiencing a complete “social death”.
It is a good practice to buy American made goods if possible. Because the American public no longer thinks before they buy an item, we are losing out manufacturing base every day that passes on the calendar. Every day you watch the news there are stories about how bad the economy is and getting worse with each tick of the clock. In the recent history, United States of America was the leading exporter of goods but now we run a trade deficit each year. It is close to 100 degrees; it has been at least ten hours since the last break. The woman working next to you severed her finger on the machine today, and the wage for one day of working will not be enough to buy a decent meal. How thrilling does it sound to work in a sweatshop? This is the only option for most women and children working in the third world, to support their family’s needs. There is very little, if anything being done to resolve this shocking situation. No person should be exposed to this type of work atmosphere. Sweatshops are inhumane working environments.
