The exact cause of transgender identity is not known, but current theories point towards biological influences such as prenatal hormone levels. We do know that nothing a parent does or does not do can cause a child to develop a transgender identity. Nothing can be done to cause, prevent or reverse a gender identity that does not match a child’s assigned
She takes pride in her well maintained home and cooking expertise. Her schedule is full of running her husband’s errands throughout the day and having the breakfast, lunch and dinner completed that he requests. She finished two years of college courses at a local community college and would love to finish gaining her degree in nursing. The client would love to finish school, but her husband tells her that a degree is unnecessary since she should only be relying on him. Her husband’s attitude makes her feel insufficient and does not feel like a positive role model for her daughters to look up to. The client’s self-esteem is very low and the only time she feels pretty or worthy is when her daughters tell her they love her. She is at a point in her life where her self-worth is nearly destroyed, a place she never would have imagined before marrying her husband.
When people want to be theirself, doesn 't everyone deserve that chance at that much freedom? According to the national LGBTQ Task Force transgender people are not that lucky when it comes to the demographics of social media. On CNN website there 's an article that discusses how transgender people are twice as likely to be unemployed and four times more likely to live in poverty compared with the general population and these disparities are much greater for transgender black and latina woman said Emanuela Grinberg writer for CNN.
Oppression is prolonged unjust and cruel treatment. The LGBT community has faced oppression for a very long time. Transgender individuals face oppression in a different way and are often overlooked by LGBT groups because they are finding themselves in a different way. Transgender people are treated cruel and even murdered because of their choices and decisions. These individuals are facing oppression based on themselves but also in ways such as poverty. With discrimination comes the difficulty to keep a job and a safe work environment. This group is one of the main groups forgotten about and misunderstood. Instead of facing oppression for one reason these individuals face cruel treatment just walking down the street. It is impossible
According to the articles, the causes of transgender is a person having vague feelings of not fitting in with people of their same sex, and some experiencing gender-conforming attitudes and behaviors later in life. A controversial cause is gender dysphoria according to the American Psychiatric Association. Gender dysphoria is defined as persistent gender incongruence. This is a very debated topic and its current classification may change in the future.
Factors anywhere from parental inheritance, to hormone obscurities and even media influence may play a role in evolving a person’s gender identity. People become transgender as they realize things like they do not quite fit into to the assignment of perspectives from society or want to explore other walks of life. Transexuals are types of people who want to make physical adaptations to their body to shape themselves to better fit the ideas of their desired gender. Cross dressers are a bit more tame and just decide to wear the other gender’s appropriate clothing. Drag royalty will dress like other genders to entertain. Finally, genderqueers bend the realms of what is societally respected and alter what pronouns they are associated with.
This is a common belief that’s been bred into us as a culture but our growth has ruled this out as a because women who are not in a position of a helper are excelling just as well, if not better.
Transgender Oppression is the oppression of people whose gender expression, gender identity, and/ or sex identity does not match the expectations of the dominant norm or society. Being a transgender means to “denote or relate to a person whose self-identity does not conform unambiguously to conventional notions of male or female gender”. There are facilities that supports Transgenders and LGBT’s like the National Center for Transgender Equality, and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
In Trauma in Transgender Populations: Risk, Resilience and Clinical Care Mizock and Lewis explains factors that put the transgender population at risk such as working in the sex industry or being targets of hate crimes. (Mizock & Lewis, 2011, p. 336). This article also sheds light on some strategies and types of resources that can build resilience in transgender people. Mizock and Lewis gave a thorough description of what it means to be transgender, transsexual, transman etc. as these terms can often be misused and misapplied to this population. This article highlights some common traumatic experiences shared among the transgender population and how transphobia is contributing to this problem. (Mizock & Lewis, 2011, p.336). I feel this
I was wrong in my thinking and life is more complex than that. The challenges of living in a transphobic society that children must face rejection, discrimination, and violence daily, must be difficult. Transgender is a general term that refers to people with a variety of identities. In the broadest sense, refers to people who do not adhere to the cultural definitions of gender. This term encompasses transsexual men and women, or those that have altered their genitals to match the gender they choose to express, but it also includes transgender men and women who express a gender identity other than the one assigned at birth but do not choose to have genital alteration surgery. Both transgender and transsexual people may use hormones, clothing, makeup, wigs and/or hairstyles, and other types of surgery (such as facial feminization surgery or mastectomies) in their presentation of gender. Transgender also may refer to drag kings and queens, women and men who dress as the opposite gender for the purposes of performance, or people who identify as genderqueer—people who choose to express both or neither gender in their presentation. (Hoffman, 2014). This holds true for transgender children as well. There are many things that people do not realize about transgender children. Being transgender is a very complex situation to be in. Transgender children go through things such as
A 24-year-olds bladder bursted after he was drinking a lot of alcohol and then jumped in the water. They said it was like dropping a balloon on the ground, because his stomach was fun and it exploded. He went to the doctor a few days later complaining about pains.he couldn't use the bathroom himself, so they had to stick a catheter in his bladder, blood and urine came out. He had a CT scan, and surgeons operated on his abdomens.

Stresses the importance of transparent and impartial report of all the member states within a fixed deadline and make sure the government works for the well-being of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community throughout the state;
Don’t feel like you were stupid or out of the loop. A male-to-female transgender person, for example, has tried SO HARD, for many years to convince themselves that they are male, to fit that role for everyone around them, and has probably gone to extremes. You might see someone who has shaved their head bald, grown a full beard, bulked up in muscles, and worn the most masculine clothes possible. This person might have gone overboard with “masculine” activities such as hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and/or extreme sports. Transgender people have tried to convince themselves, as well as others around them, for many years, before they come in for therapy. You didn’t know because THEY DIDN”T WANT YOU TO KNOW and, for a long time, didn’t want to
There were many primary themes that I found within my research. One was that most of the people who had a negative view of transgender people did not personally know anyone who identified as transgender. Hence, they had either learned about it from friends or the internet. Out of the 10 people interviewed, 6 people did not know anyone who identifies as transgender. Within those 6 people, over half of them had a more of a negative view regarding the transgender community. I believe this may be because when one cannot attribute humanistic qualities or personal experience to a topic, one tends to be less sensitive to it. Another primary theme that I found interesting was the response to the question, “when did you first hear the term transgender?”. Interestingly, the people who did not
Throughout American history, numerous influential social movements arose, such as the civil rights movement, the youth movement, and the animal rights movement. However, one of the most prominent and rapidly changing movements in the past year, 2015, has been the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement, the advocacy for equal rights between heterosexual and LGBT individuals. In this year, the LGBT movement made many crucial achievements. Starting off the year, in February of 2015, the Human Rights Campaign began a movement named the People’s Brief. The purpose of this campaign was to gain nationwide support for the LGBT movement. The group ended up gaining over 200,000 signatures which was many more signatures than any other brief ever given to the Supreme Court. The transgender side of the LGBT movement also had major successes in 2015. After Caitlyn Jenner came out, the movement changed drastically. It sparked many transgender people to come out to the media and discuss the inequalities and violence that trans people face in society. However, perhaps the most important victory for the LGBT was the legalizing of gay marriage across the country. This event happened on June 26, 2015 when the supreme court declared that denying two people the right to marry, regardless of gender, is unconstitutional. Even though just a few accomplishments were named, many others occurred that also had major impacts on the LGBT movement (“Best”). Although in recent months the
