The Truman Show is a very interesting movie with lots of meaning. The point-of-view of the movie came off as omniscient. Omniscient requires an all-knowing observer who supplies the "audience" with facts. I think this because even though the main character is Truman, Truman has been shaped to be who he is. His fear of open waters, his marriage, parents, career, home, best friend, and literally all his life experiences are creations of Christof. Christof is the director who is the mastermind behind the characters, the scenes, and Truman himself. It began to feel as if Truman is made in the image of Christof or at least in the image Christof desired. In the film, Christof is portrayed as Truman's antagonist, however, I feel as if this is truly Christof's story. There is a form of a "god complex" happening in the story with Christof being the creator of Truman and his world and this goes in-hand with the omniscient perspective. Nevertheless, when Truman began to question Christof's world and set off to explore the open waters to fight the fear engraved in him due to Christof, we see the search for Truman from Christof's point-of-view. We see Christof looking at the screens and we see him break with emotion as Truman began to discover his own character—breaking out of the character shell given to him by Christof. Furthermore, our textbook author, Giannetti states that narrators in an omniscient point-of-view "can enter the consciousness of a number of different characters, telling us what they think and feel" (page 398).
