In a world where many religions exist, Jehovah 's Witness believe they are the only true religion; using Isaiah 43:10 in an attempt to defend their beliefs. That scripture is also where they get the name Jehovah’s Witness. They believe that the destruction of the present world system at Armageddon is inevitable, and the establishment of God 's kingdom over the earth is the only solution for the issues we face. Jehovah’s Witnesses has a worldwide membership of more than six and a half million members, all of whom are involved in evangelism. Their conventions attendance yearly is said to be more than fifteen million, and an annual Memorial attendance of more than nineteen million. Jehovah 's Witness are now directed by the Governing Body of Jehovah 's Witness, which is a group of “elders” in Brooklyn, New York. This select group institutes all doctrines based on their interpretations of the Bible. They prefer to use their own translation, which is the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures. This “bible” is distributed in 42 languages and Braille for the blind. Jehovah’s witnesses don 't know who originally translated their Bible and they believe they they themselves don 't have the wisdom to translate the bible. In addition to that, none of the first leaders were formally educated. Jehovah’s Witness emerged from the Bible Student movement, founded in the late 1870s by Charles Taze Russell. In 1916 Charles Russell died an alcoholic on a train with none of his many

The purpose of this paper is to identify the characteristics, values and beliefs of Jehovah’s Witness group. It will discuss their reasoning for refusal to accept blood transfusions. The paper will elaborate on the best approach to offer appropriate care, advice and education while treating patients with respect in regards to their religious beliefs. British Journal of Nursing (2009) suggests that good, honest communication, without any element of coercion or scare tactics, is the key in the management of Jehovah’s Witness patients.
Jehovah's witnesses’ faith allows them to seek medical help; however, they do not accept blood transfusions. This belief arises from a biblical passage that states "Only flesh with its soul- its blood-you must not eat (Genesis 9:3-4), "You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh, because the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood. I will set my face against that person who eats blood...Anyone eating it will be cut off” (Leviticus 17:10, 13-14). These passages are interpreted by Jehovah's witnesses as forbidding the transfusion of any blood products. The following presentation will address legal and ethical issues that can arise from this scenario.
Family, heritage, ethnicity, beliefs, values, knowledge, experiences, attitudes, religion, education, roles, language, and cuisine are all items encompassing culture. Culture is what influences your outlook on life itself as well as behaviors and rituals. Culture is the way different groups of people do things. While some cultures have overlapping cultural behaviors or aspects, most cultures vary significantly. Culture, for the most part, is something you are born into, your innate programming, however, it some aspects can be changed or evolved. "Only part of culture is conscious" (Spector, 2013).
No one has ever been able to articulate just what makes a cult, and what makes a religion different. Yet most people, when listing mainstream religions, name Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, among others. These religions have existed for thousands of years and have millions of followers; they have thus earned a degree of respect even from outsiders. However, Mormonism—the tradition of the Latter Day Saints movement—is considered strange, and by some, a cult. In the modern age, many consider its very premise a hoax. Mark Twain criticized the Mormon holy scripture, calling it “chloroform in print” (Turner 229), and Jacob Weisberg (editor of the Washington Post) called Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, “an obvious con man” (Ostling xv). Yet
Nurses have the responsibility of caring for a diverse group of people. These people come from different cultures, races, and religious backgrounds. Religion plays a major role in patient care and has for many years. Cultural competency is a major component of nursing practices. Understanding culture is imperative in knowing what is important to a patient and how to address his or her healthcare needs. Understanding culture is also important when determining what suggestions to make about interventions for treatment. Culture is defined as many people interacting and sharing with one another their patterns of behavior, beliefs and values (Burkhardt, G. & Nathaniel, A., 2014).
Jehovah’s Witnesses are a religious group that follows the Bible’s principles and uses them as a guideline in order to imitate Jesus -Jehovah’s Son- and serve
According to dictionary.com (n.d.), Jehovah witnesses are a part of a Christian Sect. Henslin (2012) states that a sect is like a cult, but larger than the cult. Dictionary.com (n.d) states that Jehovah Witnesses were founded in the late nineteenth century,
Cults are the groups that exhibit intense and unquestioning devotion to a single cause. All the group members have a same goal or mission, and the group thinking helps the group members to stick on the same goal. For the Heaven Gate, their goal is to enter the kingdom of heaven, the kingdom level above human. The documentary of “Heaven Gate Cult” perfectly shows the four ways for the cult to promote their group thinking.
Certain philosophers would have you believe that science at best is an integrated, and reconstituted distillation of all the current knowledge at any one time (much like Campbell's condensed Tomato soup: boring and uninteresting). A diminutive subset of these natural thinkers has even dared to characterize our universe as one with an infinite number of happenings outside the current domain of knowledge.
Growing up in a Jehovah 's Witness home has its ups and its downs. Whether your parents are Jehovah 's Witnesses or they started having a bible study, there are plenty of up sides and down sides. Religion is a strange thing to deal with; it is also a choice for each and every individual on this planet. As a Jehovah 's Witness, you must put gods will first, before anything. In the publications “Questions Young People Ask: Answers That Work” Volumes from The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, are actual young people who are Witnesses; they express the ups and the downs. These publications refer to scriptures in the New World Transcription of the Holy Scriptures Bible, (or in any bible you may have at home) as well as other information in encyclopedias and dictionaries. Overall, The Young People Ask Volumes go over topics such as dealing with family, identity, the classroom, sex, morals and love, behavior, feelings, physical change, money, time, and worship to their God; Jehovah. (Young People Ask Vol. 1 and 2)
In a major manner Jehovah's Witnesses are like everyone else. They have ordinary tribulations economic, physical, and emotional. They make errors sometimes, for they are not superlative, motivated, or flawless. But they
Jehovah’s Witnesses are a people known widely throughout the world. They are well-dressed people who come knocking at your door on different occasions offering religious literature for sale or trying to introduce their beliefs through carefully prepared conversation. People young, old, rich, poor, well educated and non-educated have embraced them. Their enthusiasm as proclaimers of God’s Kingdom has impressed even their harshest critics. Their love toward one another makes some non-witnesses hope and pray that more people would act in that manner. Yet, some may still wonder, who really are the Jehovah’s Witnesses? What is their history, their practices and their beliefs? Why are they the most attacked new religious
Interestingly enough, most children at a very early age recognize ways they can control their surroundings. For example, a screaming child demands his or her parents’ attention and most siblings strive to appease their younger brothers or sisters that have discovered the ability to make them react. While this is a simple model of governing, it demonstrates that ruling is innate and a part of man’s inner being. According to Genesis 1:26, God’s plan instituted the concept that humankind ruled the environment (New International Version). Although Jehovah’s plan gave man dominion over the earth, his ultimate purpose for humans is to know the Lord and have a relationship with him (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p. 61). After Adam’s (Eve) sinned,
