It is the year 2059 in The World of Opry. Ruled by Rosalinda, the queen, that believes that she is perfect and anyone that disagrees will be thrown into a pit where her evil animals will eat the human alive. The World of Opry is a place that everyone has to believe, eat, dress, act and look the same way. No one can disagree with the queen or have any personal opinions. Laura Sanders is a 16 year old girl who lives in the World of Opry. She is debating whether to try and escape the world or to just play along and be miserable for the rest of her life. The queen and her family are the only ones allowed to leave the World without severe punishment. Her friend, Alex, is still wanting to stay in the world. Laura doesn’t want to escape on her own, …show more content…
“I sent your big brother to you in the form of a snake; He’s mine now,” she added. “Ethier let me throw you in the pit now or fight me,” she added. “I’ll fight you,” said Laura. She had a plan, and this one was going to work. The queen can’t see Sam. Her and Sam start planning the attack. Laura will distract the queen and then Sam will go up and grab her by the hair and throw her against the glass windows while then she will bleed to death. If their plan works, they will set all the people free and live a happy life once again. The queen and Laura start fighting and there is blood everywhere. It looks like a two year old spilled paint. Laura starts throwing some small punches, but nothing major. Since the queen can’t see Sam, Sam can grab her without her even noticing. “What is happening? “Who is grabbing me by the neck?” she said. As soon as Sam grabbed her, a loud screech filled the courtyard. He grabbed her by the neck and threw her by the hair. She was covered with bruises and blood. Then Sam rushed over to her and then he picked her up by her arm, pulled her lips off and shoved rocks down her throat. No one knew what was happening because it just looked like the queen was floating around getting beat up by the
On the story, she commented, “Explaining just what I had hoped the story to say is very difficult. I supposed that by setting a particular brutal ancient rite in the present and in my village the story’s readers with a dramatization of the pointless violence and general inhumanity in their own lives.”
“DID I SAY I CARE FOR YOUR SAFETY? No! Damn fool! EXECUTION! EXECUTION!” She screamed it loud as she could, rattling the throne beneath her, but she soon stood up and started to yell and scream. She was nothing but a queen, and the fool’s head would be beneath her, rolling on the grass, blood trailing
When Katsa fishes him out, she and Bitterblue dress the wound in his shoulder, slump him over a horse, and set out for the king was not dead and the only one who could kill him was knocked out.
“He wants to know what you’re going to do about the snake thing…the Beastie” (pg35)
She needs to come to terms with living in a world where she isn’t on top, where everyone looks up to her. I liked how when Alex wants to throw a party she will ask a richer friend if she can cook for them. Then she can throw party at their place. I’m sure her friends would let her throw a party at their place without cooking, but this situation allows everyone to obtain what they want and still save
Although being of royal descent, Princess Elizabeth led one of the most despondent lives in the kingdom. At the young age of five, she witnessed the assassination of her father through the cracks of the closet, where she hid. Her mother, who hid with her desperately covered the mouth of young Elizabeth, for fear that she would scream. Elizabeth however, did not scream. She was at such a loss for words and emotions that she did not know how to react. It was from this day that she realized the cold, brutal harshness of the world, and promised herself that she would always stand up for her subjects to life’s evils. It was in fact
I dropped my bag in the hallway of my grandmother’s house and went to throw my arms around her as she sat at the table, looking through a pile of family papers and photos. She looked up and smiled at me, explaining that she had been looking through old papers that my great grandmother had kept. My eyes fixed on a photo of some people standing on a balcony, waving to a huge crowd. Grandma explained that this was George VI and Queen Elizabeth with the two princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. It was taken by someone my great grandmother knew, who was employed at the palace. Apparently those two little princesses were always into mischief; they were into everything. As with most siblings they used to fight all the time but if anyone tried to come between them, they’d stick together like glue. The younger sister was forever getting into scrapes that her elder sister, Elizabeth, had to try to get her out of. While Margaret was the fun sister, Elizabeth was the responsible one. Elizabeth had no choice: she was to grow up to become the Queen of Britain. I looked at Grandma enquiringly. “Yes, the present Queen”, she responded. “That reminds me of your great grandfather Phillip and his brother Alan”, she said picking up some pages from a timeworn diary.
She feels as though if her husband is incapable of becoming king she will do what is necessary herself in seeing that she is queen.
When Laura and Howie were done fighting in the woods, Howie talked to her about his idea of living together,¨Well, it's kind of weird. I had this idea. I had this idea that you and I could live together in the woods”(182). The author of The Goats point is that Howie believes that he and Laura have a strong bond. They were willing to be distant from society and live together. If you did not have a close relationship with someone you would not want to live with them. Of course, it is possible to disagree with the view that they grew a strong bond with each other over time and instead argue that they did not have a strong bond with each other, resulting in a short friendship. However, the weight of the evidence is on the other side. What must be remembered is that they did have a strong bond because in the motel when Laura was in trouble with the adults, Howie helped her. Howie went out of his way and made a big distraction so that they both would be able to escape together. Howie had another chance at this moment to leave Laura and potentially get away, to never get caught. If they did not have a strong bond then Howie would have never saved Laura. This is fundamentally why they grew a strong bond with each other over
However, unfortunately for Laura, Alex Thomas had been dead long back which leaves Laura astonished and cheated to the point where she cannot find a reason to live anymore and she commits
Amanda’s strong and outgoing personality has made Laura become submissive painfully shy and self-conscious. She never let Laura make her own decisions. Laura was forced to attend a Business College because her mother wanted to, which resulted her escaping from school. So, to retreat from the real world, she resorted to playing her victrolla and admires her glass menagerie collection.
She is advised against injuring the King and also believes that since he has returned from the Troy with a concubine, Cassandra, that Cassandra must be killed also. The play ends with
Whenever the queen is displeased it usually results in somebody getting their head cut off. This can be seen when Alice is put on trial in front of the queen and her court. The queens ruling results in Alice being guilty and becoming defiant to the queen. As a result the queen shouts, “off with her head!” (Carroll, 102). This represents Alice and her madness because as I stated earlier, this was all in Alice’s dream. Therefore the queen is a representation of what goes on in Alice’s head. She has that dark mental side to her nature.
Laura's self-image is that of an unpopular girl, a bookworm, and she seems amazed that her handsome husband, "had kissed, courted, and proposed to...the bookworm...who had never been sought after or cherished" (40). She marries him out of a sense of duty and because it is what women do in 1949, but finds marriage and motherhood smothering. She feels inept at the simplest chores, such as creating a birthday cake for her husband and caring for her three-year-old son, and prefers to spend her time reading. She has a difficult time separating the fantasy of "Mrs. Dalloway, which she is reading, and the reality of her life. She finds herself attracted to a neighbor woman and must also deal with feelings of guilt caused by that attraction. Pregnant, desperately unhappy, depressed, and unwilling to take her own life, she affects her escape by abandoning her husband and children.
When Laura is sent down to the laborers cottages she feels and is entirely over dressed. When she is down there she sees all of the half dressed children and she feels as if she is in an entirely different world. While she was walking through the cottages all eyes were on her and that is when she felt more over dressed than ever. When she arrived at the place she just wants to be in and out of there, she just wanted to leave the sandwiches. But when she is greeted by the man
