The idea of change is the most constant factor in business today and organisational change therefore plays a crucial role in this highly dynamic environment. It is defined as a company that is going through a transformation and is in a progressive step towards improving their existing capabilities. Organisational change is important as managers need to continue to commit and deliver today but must also think of changes that lie ahead tomorrow. This is a difficult task because management systems are design, and people are rewarded for stability. These two main factors will be discussed with reasons as to why organisational change is necessary for survival, but on the other hand why it is difficult to accomplish.

In order to achieve a stable management system, there needs to be a clear and reinforced mission as well as objectives. In regards to organisational change it will be difficult if a management system is not able to be flexible to adapt and keep up with ongoing variations. Open communication, developing skills to manage change, clearly defined roles, as well as superior decision making by managers at all levels will ensure a cohesive structure with shared commitment which in turn provides direction and focus. (Samuel, 2013) This ensures that information is continually shared, employees know what is expected of them and how they can further enhance the success of the team and lastly, in regard to decision making they can be able to make effective and structured decisions to overcome change. (Goodman, Lucy. 2011) For this reason, the ability to move past resistance to change is dependent on an organisations vision and how effective its communication and management systems are. (Battilana, Casciaro, 2013)

Week 3, the lecture on Managing Change describes organizational changes that occur when a company makes a shift from its current state to some preferred future state. Managing organizational change is the process of planning and implementing change in organizations in such a way as to decrease employee resistance and cost to the organization while concurrently expanding the effectiveness of the change effort. Today's business environment requires companies to undergo changes almost constantly if they are to remain competitive. Students of organizational change identify areas of change in order to analyze them. A manager trying to implement a change, no matter how small, should expect to encounter some resistance from within the organization.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss organizational change and the management of that change. I will talk about the different drivers of change, the factors a leader needs to weigh to implement change effectively, the various resistances a leader may encounter while trying to implement change, and how various leadership styles will effect the realization of change. I will also discuss the knowledge I have gained through the completion of this assignment and how I think it might affect the way I manage change in my workplace.
