Theme is a general topic that teaches the reader a life lesson. The theme of acceptance is frequently used in books as a life lesson to let people know they can be different. Acceptance is a big part of life in the past, present and becoming even more important in our world nowadays. Friendships, relationships, etc rely on acceptance to keep their connection. The world depends on acceptance to keep the nations together and not disowning a nation because of their differences but, the world is not all this way. As Clay Aiken states “In my ideal world, no child would suffer. Charitable instincts would be prevail. There would be global acceptance of all different types of people.” This shows that acceptance is not used in enough in our plant. …show more content…
This shows that even if you are different from each other, help each other out through rough times and accept them for who they really are. In the story Nya was from the Nuer tribe and Salva was from the Dinka tribe. The Dinka and Nuer tribes have been fighting violently for a long time and have been fighting over water for their cattle since the climate is very dry and the geography doesn't have a lot of water available to them. At the end of the story Salva came to help the Nuer tribe on getting water once he had all his own needs in America. On page 114, in the story A Long Walk to Water, it states “The Dinka and Nuer tribes were enemies-had been for hundreds of years. “Why would a Dinka bring water to us” she wondered aloud. “I heard Uncle and Father talking about him,” Dep said. “He has drilled so many wells for his own people. This year he decided to drill for the Nuer as well.” This displays that Salva knew the Nuer needed some help but he decided to help them and accept them for who they are and not judge. It also says on page 107 “an idea of what he might be able to do to help the people of Sudan.” This is an example of helping people all around even if they are different. Nya and Salva had accepted each other despite their different ethics, opinion, and …show more content…

On page 176 of Sophia’s War Mr.Townsend said he had to leave and can not help out Sophia with her spying anymore. Sophia did not agree with his way to leave her in a very significant spy location because she had just stated. Also on page 149 Sophia is hesitating to become a spy because they discover her but she is accepting of Mr.Gaine and his thoughts on spies so she continued to go on with the plan. Sophia was to embrace the fact that other people had different opinions on the war and spies and had to help out for the freedom of her country even if they are

A theme is the meaning behind a story, occasionally defined as the moral of the story. Themes can differ from one end of the world to the other, as it does in many books. The Droughtlanders by Carrie Mac is a futuristic version of the world which has been divided into two parts. The rich and the poor, the healthy and the sick, otherwise known as Keyland and Droughtland. Keyland is where all the rich people with extravagant lands and lives live. Droughtland is a disease-ridden land where all poor people are being forced to live. Society treats Droughtland poorly and they decide to take action. Thus starting the revolution. Carrie Mac portrays many themes in different ways throughout the book. However the major theme the book revolves around is that; No matter how rich or poor a person is, or what gender, race, or sexuality they are, in the end, they are all the same and deserve to be treated equally. In addition, the book shows that when everyone is treated equally there is so much more that everyone can accomplish. The theme is being portrayed through the narrative point of view, setting and atmosphere, and character development.
The theme is the subject of the essay and it helps the reader to get the full understanding about the message or a big idea. “School of Hate” by Sabrina Rubin Erdely and “18 Tigers, 17 Lions, 8 Bears, 3 Cougars, 2 Wolves, 1 Baboon, 1 Macaque, and 1 Man Dead in Ohio” by Chris Heath have one similar theme and it is isolation because they both experienced as the outcasts and it was hard for them to getting along with the society. Erdely developed the theme by showing the experiences of a girl in the middle school. The author made the
Suffering is an important theme in A Long Walk to Water because not only does Salva suffer, but other’s as well. The first example of suffering is when Mariel, Salva’s friend, has been eaten by a lion. What happens is that Salva’s Uncle had been reunited with Salva, but then at night Uncle had told Salva to sleep so he did it, but when he was sleeping,Mariel had gotten eaten by a lion.So Mariel suffers the death while Salva is suffering with sadness that his friend died. The second example of suffering is when Salva is walking to the Ethiopian, and his toenail break’s off while walking the hot desert with less food and less water. “ Salva and his group of boys had walked for a year and half” It shows
Kobe Bryant once said, “Everything negative - pressure, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise”. This quote is demonstrated in both A Night Divided and A Long Walk to Water as in both books the characters face great challenges that allow them to rise above others. In A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen Gerta and her family are divided by the Berlin Wall. Gerta’s oldest brother, Dominique, and father are in the west and Gerta her other brother, Fritz, and their mother are in the east. They decide to tunnel under the wall to get to the west for a better life and to get back to their family. This is their escape story. In the story, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. Salva is in Sudan and his village is under attack by the rebels. He is separated from his family and must learn to survive the harsh conditions of Sudan to get to peace. The Salva’s family gets divided as and he is by himself. This is his account of his escape to the refugee camps. In both books, A Night divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen, and, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park the authors use plot sequence to develop the theme, times of hardships and danger develop perseverance.
In the book color of water by James mcbride talks about his mother Ruth's and how she had ups and downs in her younger life till now when she is a widow and how she a has this habit of riding her bicycle through the all- black neighborhood in which James and his family lived. In “The Color of Water,” by James McBride has many themes. Each theme he is trying to get a point across and he tries to make us understand what him and his family went through as being Jewish and African American. He tells about his past and his parents past to give us an idea of what they all went through. In this book he brings you into their lives.
Since her “boss” (Mr.Townshend) is gone, she has no one to tell what she’s found out about the selling of Westpoint. It is important to understand that Sophia is a spy and she works as a maid in John Andre’s home. If she blows her cover she could be dead the next day. Originally she was supposed to leave letters for Mr.Townshend but, since he’s gone everything she is finding out she has to keep to herself. This problem comes to a head when Sophia finds out about the selling of West Point.
Perseverance is an important theme in A Long Walk To Water because in the book a eleven year old boy needs to travel through hardships without his family to survive. Salva needed to keep trying in order to survive and hopefully one day find his family. When the group was crossing the Akobo Desert (on page 53), Salva’s uncle pointed at landmarks for him to walk to so then he wouldn’t give up. Another part where Salva needed to persevere was when he was in the Ifo camp. Many people flooded into the water being pushed in by soldiers. Many people died trying to cross because they were either being shot, drowned, or was attacked by crocodile. But Salva persevered and kept trying to cross even though he almost drowned.
In the book A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park one of our characters are leaders that have to go through very dangerous things on his journeys. One of the main themes in this book is dangerous situations make people leaders. Salva and Uncle Jewiir both end up being leaders somewhere in the book, but I think that Uncle Jewiir becoming the leader is more important. One page thirty four Uncle Jewiir came to Salva’s group to help get everyone safely to the refugee camp. Uncle became the leader because he had been working in the army so he was able to take his gun with him, so he can shoot food for everyone in the group. Uncle Jewiir was a very good leader and he always tried motivating everyone to keep going and get to the final detonation
A Long Walk to Water is a novel by Linda Sue Park. This novel is about Salva, an eleven-year -old Sudanese boy who grows up in South Sudan. Later in the novel, he has faced challenges one wouldn’t dream of facing, through a long period of time. He has learned, if one helps other people, those people will then help more people, which will result in more happiness in the world. He is a round character, who changes throughout the novel. Salva is a different person at the end of the book. He has gone from hearing his death journey to fighting for survival to helping transform people’s lives forever.
Another symbol in this story is guns. Guns represent power. People with guns are seen as leaders, and to not be messed with. Guns provide an easy way to hunt for food, and a better chance of survival. Salva’s uncle has a gun, and is the leader of his group.
The world view of the Navajo who had lived for many centuries on the high Colorado Plateau was one of living in balance with all of nature, as the stewards of their vast homeland which covered parts of four modern states. They had no concept of religion as being something separate from living day to day and prayed to many spirits. It was also a matriarchal society and had no single powerful leader as their pastoral lifestyle living in scattered independent family groups require no such entity. This brought them repeatedly into conflict with Spanish, Mexicans and increasingly by the mid-nineteenth century, Americans as these practices were contrary to their male dominated religiously monolithic societal values. The long standing history
According to the text,( A long walk to water), it states “The old woman gave salva a bag of peanuts and a gourd for drinking water. He thanked her and said goodbye.”Pg 22. In other words, it shows that even though he old women was leaving him she gave him two important items that she knew would be helpful on the journey or way which were peanuts and a gourd to eat and to carry water in and if would have not gave him that gourd he would have not been able to save the water to drink it when needed. Furthermore,it states “ None of the travelers had money or anything of value to trade, so they had to beg for food. The exception was uncle: the fishermen gave him food without having to be asked.”Pg 47. Therefore,it shows that since the group had nothing much valuable they couldn’t trade and started begging for food but when the fishermen saw them he gave uncle the fish which shows that they had helped them and salva by giving them
Paranoia and distrust heavily lingered on Claire’s mind when she discovered the inhumane response of her husband Stuart and his friends towards the cold, deceased body of an innocent young girl they found drifting through the Naches River during their fishing trip in the short story: “So Much Water So Close To Home,” by Raymond Carver. Throughout the story, a significant theme that the author attempts to convey through the story is when seeds of doubt are left to grow, even the strongest of bonds may be put into question. Over the course of the story, Claire struggled internally on whether or not she could bring herself to trust her husband anymore when he showed no remorse or desire to contact the authority when he found the dead body; rather, he just ignored it while he and his friends partied until morning. Triggered by these events and traumatic memories from her childhood event, she began to question the her husband’s humanity and moral code; thus, it is emphasized that even even a single random occurrence, such as discovering your husband’s cold hearted behavior, distorts one’s previous perspective as well as completely change the way they view something or someone.. Sadly this fact is apparent in everyday life and the trauma and distrust cannot be undone so easily.
