Research. An action presumed as helpful that can give you a lot of information on topics and subjects you are interested in or forced to do a project on. It can also give you background information and insight on the matters you are looking up. Although research is supposed to be helpful, that is not always the case. This is especially the case when it came to researching the book "First They Killed My Father" by Loung Ung. I think that researching the book "First They Killed My Father" and researching Loung Ung and the war was not helpful at all as 75% of the information we researched was irrelevant. And this information was put on the charts which, I quote, were said to be "very informative and done well". I completely disagree with that statement. …show more content…
Peace Fellowship going to help me with this book? How is knowing she went to Saint Michael's College going to ever be useful in the course of the next month or my life? Knowing she currently lives in Cleveland Ohio doesn't matter in regards to being able to fluently read this book. Knowing she is currently alive isn't important because we can clearly see that she's alive if she wrote a book that was published in 2000. So, I think in that regard this was a waste of time. Additionally, the information we covered in regards to the book wasn't helpful at all and ruined parts of the book. Knowing she grew up in Phnom Penh before we read the book doesn't matter because the text clearly says on page 1 "My family lives on a third-floor apartment in the middle of Phnom Penh". Knowing she was one in seven children before we started

WHAT IS RESEARCH? It is a planned process whereby information is collected for a specific purpose, analysed and reported.
Everything can change in an instant. Those who are loved do not go away; they walk beside a soul everyday. They are unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear. Learning how to survive with grief is knowing loved ones are not going to leave another one’s side. In the book First They Killed My Father, written by Loung Ung, Ung explores the idea of survival. The story is about a middle class Cambodian family who lives in Phnom Penh. A regular morning in the life of Loung Ung suddenly turns into a tragedy and the whole tone of the story shifts. The city of Phnom Penh fleas in fear of the U.S bombing the city. The Ung family travels from camp to camp and village to village while slowly running low on food and strength,

The use of specific detail and ethos helped McBride in writing a powerful book since readers would be able to know what is being read actually happened and considering that McBride collected several information about his mother like where she was born, her religion and her two divorces. The book is
Overall the book is a great historical book that teaches people not just about the horrors of the war but those who continued to fight for the justice for all humans. It explains the difficulty of finding these people and the amount of work required to find and capture these

In the book so far I have learned about a character named Susan. Susan is a quiet girl and in the future she wants to live by a lake and write stories. She also likes this guy that goes to her school. I figured out a little about her teacher Mr. Griffin. He never gives out any A’s no matter how hard or good an assignment is the highest they will get is a B. Mr. Griffin also ever expects later work no matter what the reason is. A guy named Jeff that is in the same class as Susan got really mad at Mr. Griffin for not expecting make up or late work. Jeff played basketball and he had a game the night before a big assignment was due. He wasn’t able to finish it in time, even though he should have done it before, and since Mr. Griffin doesn’t expect
Hannah Kim Ms. Manning 9F English Writing Piece #1: Analytical writing 14 November 2014 The first few chapters of First They Killed My Father is serious and humorless, since the overall matter in this section is the war and Loung and her family’s escape for safety. Due to the lack of food, deaths of family members and friends, and just an overall terrible life with petrifying Khmer Rouge soldiers, Loung and her family has no energy nor time for happiness. Loung Ung, who is also the author of this book, delineates her despair towards her changed life, and expresses her need for food. In the past, back in Phnom Penh, Pa told Loung that “people should be good not because they are afraid of getting caught, but because bad karma will follow them around them through their lifetime” (Ung 90).
People don’t know everything. There are some questions that we may not know the answer to. Through research, we can determine answers and learn about things that weren’t even anticipated. Additionally, we broaden our knowledge, and become further educated.
After reading this book, not only do I feel like I have a better understanding of the Korean War overall, but I also have more respect for those who have served and are currently serving in any type of military branch. I took this class because I see more and more of my friends and family being sent off to protect America. I wanted to gain more knowledge of why they are going, and how they are part of a long generation of soldiers. This class has helped me understand more,
Research is a form of systematic inquiry. It sets out to answer questions through assessing, summarizing and drawing conclusions from what are often very large amounts of information.
Research in a simplistic form refers to a quest for information. It can also be defined as a “scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. In fact, research is an art of scientific investigation” (Kothari, 2004).Research skills help a researcher to gather data which can be transformed into findings and become knowledge. All most every course work I have written have a literature section. Writing a literature review requires strong analytical skills, thus information gathered needs to be through manage and present and a concise but meaningful way for a good literature review.
Understanding what research is in the first place aids in the knowing what its key aspects are. Understanding entails critically going through the various definitions of research to see some similarities regarding what research seems to address. It must also be taken into consideration that there are types of research that exist for example historical research, artistic research, and scientific research (Wikipedia, 2010).
According to Kotler (1996), research is the systematic collection, analysis, reporting of data and findings relevant to a specific situation.
