The Thor: Ragnarok story involves the mighty Thor finding himself imprisoned in a different part of the universe. Hence, in a race to safe is home Asgard from the powerful Hela, he leads a quest for survival that involves him fighting the Hulk. Taika Waititi directed the movie, and his trademark is seen all over the movie with the movie's sense of humor and vibrant nature. The movie time frame is after the Avengers: Age of Ultron, which explains why both the Hulk and Thor are not present in Captain America: Civil War. The movie is a quirky cosmic adventure comedy that features some of the most colorful supporting characters in the Marvel universe such as Loki, the Incredible Hulk, and Valkyrie. The movie through the assembled cast translates very well on the screen throughout their performances.
What makes a good movie?
What make a good movie are a good storyline and its ability to make people laugh, to entertain, as well as its ability to utilize its characters fully throughout the movie. Hence, from Thor: Ragnarok experience, in the Marvel universe the best movie is on that the director is left to do his work in the movie. Apparently, this has been evident in other movies such as the Guardian of the Galaxy, Iron man three as well as the first Avenger.
Thor: Ragnarok is surprisingly a good movie based on its ability to utilize humor. The film is first a comedy movie than an action movie later. Seemingly, the in the marvel universe the movie can be credited as the funniest movie of all times. The movie utilizes all opportunities to make the audience laugh. Waititi utilizes all the possible scenarios in the movie to build humor. For example, he utilizes the moments when characters are in great danger, bits when tension is at the peak as well as the awkward pauses in the movie to build comedic appeal. Hence, with the right display of humor, Thor: Ragnok earns a place among top-notch movies or maybe a level above them. Of importance, is that the Hulk character in the movie is capable of speech, which makes Thor and the Hulk the perfect comedy double. The movie utilizes it superficial characters to the maximum to develop the story. For example, most of the characters in the movie serve the purpose of
gives a trait of themselves that plays a role in the movie. The basic summary of the movie is that
“Are you coming home with me” says Thor. The troll noddes. “I shall name you Gilbert” says Thor. The two set out on their long walk home. Meanwhile Loki has heard about Thor's new friend and is plotting revenge on Thor for chaining him up for all of those years.
One of the most significant attributes of Loki is his connection to Ragnarök, or the end of the world according the Norse mythology. He triggers Ragnarök by “arranging the death of Baldur,” (Lindow, par. 6). He does this by tricking the blind god Hod into throwing a mistletoe spear at Baldur, killing him (McCoy, par. 9). He then turns against the gods and takes the side of the giant. Some of the major incidents that take place during the battle include: Jormungand, the giant serpent, slaying Thor; Fenrir, the wolf, killing Odin; and Loki and Heimdall mortally wounding each other (McCoy, par. 3 and 8). As punishment, the gods “tie him down to three rocks inside a cave” while “a venomous serpent sits above him, dripping poison onto him” (McCoy, par. 9).
In the movie Thor, made in 2011, the main character and beholder of the “Mjolnir” Thor Odinson is the Asgardian God of thunder. He is the controller of the storms, causing rain, wind, thunder, and lightning whenever he wants, using his magical hammer, the “Mjolnir”. Thor displays the hero archetype by showing heart, bravery, and caring for others when he is able to overcome all of the obstacles thrown his way by his father and his brother Loki. However, not only does he have to overcome the obstacles thrown his way by his family, he has personal issues he needs to overcome. A lot of the issues he has to face head on in the film are due to being hard-headed and
I initially chosen the movie Guardians of the Galaxy so I can elaborate on what is my favorite superhero film of all time. Being highly rated among other superhero movies, as well as containing an indie vibe, it happens to contain many aspects of film that creates a marvelous movie. Guardians of the Galaxy is an innovative movie in the superhero genre, because it has quirky story, but it somehow brings crazy comedy, middle-aged music, and of course the action-packed fun. I believe this film was a revolutionary idea in the genre and industry. From special effects to music, Guardians of the Galaxy packs a punch with the elements and techniques of a great production, which is why I chose to write about it. I was very confident in choosing Guardians of the Galaxy due to the film aspects of sound, special effects, and the narrative.
Like mentioned above, the characters in this movie are all have different personalities hence the fact that
Great Actor-Best film has excellent quality actors. Most actors selected duty that epitomize them and they can make the characters seem credible or imaginable.
Night Shyamalan is a great example of a science fiction movie. In the movie, David Dunn has never in his life broken a single bone while Elijah is very fragile and breaks his bones very easily. Throughout the movie, David Dunn experiences many tragedies and manages to usually be the lone survivor. Like in all movies, there is a protagonist and an antagonist which in this case the protagonist is David Dunn and the antagonist is Elijah(Mr.Glass). Protagonist and antagonist’s in movies are all examples of characters. Another way to use characters in a movie is to give the character believe able traits. For example, David Dunn portrays believe able traits like being sad and depressed. Secondly, by using plot, it can stretch the readers mind to make the reader aware that alternates can be perceived and realties could exist. For instance, in the movie Unbreakable, David Dunn is a man that can not get hurt when throughout his life he has experienced all these tragedies and still survived. Plot can also show a controversial side of science. In the movie, David Dunn is practically unbreakable and Elijah is very fragile and breaks
One of the significant differences in both of these films is how violence is initiated. In The Avengers violence is often treated as the right thing to do, occurs with lots of foreshadowing, and the characters enter this violence jovially. During the middle of the final battle while New York is being demolished, the Avengers have time to stand in a circle posing. As the heroes all leave their “huddle”, the Hulk gives the audience a big grin then proceeds to smash multiple Chitauri (Loki’s soldiers) into walls, throw them from buildings, and knock them off of their flying vehicles. In no instance does the audience asks
They quote John Truby in saying that “the single biggest mistake writers can make when creating the characters is that they think of the hero and all other characters as separate individuals” (73). While writing for film can be different from writing for theatre, this issue still needs to be addressed. The audience will not interest themselves with the journey of the character if the other characters are not also concerned with what has influenced this
about the characters in this way also paints us a picture that is not often painted. This
Dialogue throughout the book is just all over the place, from being humorous to being too childish for some people. Most of the time the humor is pretty dark, but it does make the story intriguing. An example of this was when the characters in the book finally reach The
Joss Whedon does not have an origin as dramatic as some comic book heroes, but his story is almost as unbelievable in filmmaking today: a transformation from a typecast fan favorite to the writer and director of some of the most successful movies of all time. He began his career as a lesser-known—but undeniably talented—sitcom writer in 1988, but his fame in Hollywood really began when Marvel sought him out in 2010 to write and direct The Avengers. Whedon’s varied experience in the movie industry, unique skill set, and passions for writing and creating made him the perfect fit for the project; and they have helped him become one of the most admired screenwriters of the 21st century. He knows the creative process that works best for him when writing, and he used this same process when writing the script for The Avengers. He believes that writing from a director’s point of view, being a willing and able collaborator, and finding balance in characters will lead to a great film. Applying these constants to his writing process for The Avengers, Whedon created a coherent and compelling story that balances the characters’ heroism with their humanity.
Similar to many other religions, Norse mythology holds one very particular, and special figure that many look-up to for guidance and wisdom. In this case, that person is Thor. Thor is certainly, one of the more popular and important gods in Norse mythology. Thor is the son of the God of the gods, Odin, and his wife, Fyorgyn. His destined duty, is to protect the Aesir god and their fortress known as Asgard. Many of Thor’s tales are that of him protecting his people and saving the world. Quite often, Thor is dedicated as having a red beard, the eyes of fire, and being as large as a monster. This image is the intimidating factor which, in many ways, drives his power and undeniable strength. Many of his tales follow him into battles with his ‘sidekick’ goats, Tanngniost and Tanngrisnir, and his brother Loki. More often than not, Thor wins these battle because of his almost indomitable strenght. With these characteristics, Thor has become the archetype of loyalty and that of an honorable warrior, which still holds true today.
When asked what makes the character of Spider-Man so popular, most people would probably say that it is due to his relatability. Peter Parker is just a kid, like all of us are or were, and that instantly makes him accessible to a wide audience. However, I never thought about that when I was a child. I grew up on the Sam Raimi films, which I still hold near and dear to my heart. I suppose I wasn’t smart enough at the time to realize the massive appeal of the Spider-Man character. For me, Spider-Man was just cool because of his colorful costume and his amazing powers. I was just a kid who loved awesome superheroes, and Spidey checked that box. Having graduated high school and preparing for college, I am now more aware of subtleties and nuances in film, while still retaining that childlike excitement for massive blockbusters. I have been anticipating the latest Spidey film for a very long time, and upon viewing the film twice, I’ve realized a glorious truth. For the first time in my life, at the age of 18, I finally related to the character on a deeper level than I ever thought possible, and that is what makes this film shine.
