The passage discusses three arguments to cast doubt on the Pterosaurs' possible capability of powered flight. The professor, however, opposes each of these arguments and believes that according to the fossil evidence and other scientific findings, Pterosaurs were capable of powered flight. The professor's arguments to further prove her claim are as follows. First, the author notes that since modern reptiles are cold-blood and have very low metabolism, ancient reptiles such Pterosaurs could not provide enough energy for powered flight due to their low body metabolism. The professor refutes this statement by referring to the fact that fossil remaining of Pterosaurs proved that, similar to warm-blood animals like birds, these animals had
It is unavoidable to doubt one’s ability to succeed in a world filled with so many options to fail. From the time the main character of “The Centaur” by May Swenson was ten years old, he became enthused by adventure. He was invested himself in all that could be in the world despite obstacles. Swenson utilizes language, imagery, structure, and point of view to illustrate the main character’s thought process as he explores his mental capacity and physical being.
Scientists say reptiles evolved from amphibians 340 million years ago. The first reptile was an insect eater. Reptiles were more adaptable and able to
The purpose of this assignment is to make us capable to argue our claims with evidences. Moreover, it also learnt to be aware of the other side of the argument by writing the counter argument.
The Glen Rose Trackway is a 107-million-year–old series of fossilized dinosaur footprints. Excavated from the bed of the Paluxy River in Texas, the trackway gives a picture of dinosaurs that in some ways is more striking than that offered by fossils. Collected in 1938, the smaller prints are from a theropod, a dinosaur that walked on two hind feet. The larger ones were probably left by a plant-eating sauropod, such as Apatosaurus, the hind feet of which measured 3 feet in length. Birds are dinosaurs. Just as humans are both primates and mammals because we descended from the first primate and the first mammal, birds are dinosaurs because they descended from the first theropod and the first dinosaur. Their upright stance came from the very first dinosaur.
According to the reading there are numerous reasons stated that the dinosaurs were migrating through their career. In contrast the professor states the contradiction points of the reasons mentioned in the reading.
Other authors of the study add a good point, opposing that their discovery doesn’t necessarily prove that the young pterosaurs were born flightless. Michael Habib, one of the authors and a paleontologist at the University of Southern California, claimed that the wings are more robust compared to the hind limbs. Furthermore, Habib said that the structure and the bone share are both integral to tell the strength of the species.
Another important piece of evidence was fossil distribution. Fossils of many different species were found on multiple continents yet these species fossils showed no evidence that they could swim across the extensive oceans that separate the continents in present day. One of these species was Mesosaurus, a crocodile-like reptile that lived in freshwater lakes and ponds. Mesosaurus was found only in South Africa and South America and, being a coastal animal, there was no way it could swim across the large ocean that now separates the two continents. Another species was Lystrosaurus, which was only found in Antarctica, India, and South Africa. Being a land dominant species, Lystrosaurus would not be capable of crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Glossopteris,
Subclass – Archeorinthes –*Fossil birds (Jurassic birds of Mesozoic Age). *Flight feathers present. *Long tail without a pygostyle. *Carpals and metacarpals free. *Abdominal ribs present. *Hand reduced to three digits.
Birds are considered feathered reptiles. They share a common ancestor with the crocodile. Nearly every anatomical feature of a bird can be related to its ability to fly. Birds lay a hard shelled amniotic egg rather than the leathery egg of other reptiles.
It is remarkable how years of evolution have given some reptiles and invertebrates a quick way to escape their potential demise. Have you ever wondered how a small lizard with minimal defense can get away from a predator so easily? When attacked by a predator the lizard’s tail will fall off giving the reptile a chance to escape. Timothy Higham, an Assistant Professor of Biology stated in one of his experiments, “Once shed from the lizard’s body the tail completes complex jumps and lunges.” This mean that after the lizard loses its tail the tail will start to jump and
The reading claims that the Pterosaurs were not capable of powered flight. However, the lecturer finds all the idea dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
I believe in the possibility of dinosaurs being in my backyard (SA) as we have found numerous ways for fossils to be preserved and these ways can and have been done in South Australia.
Despite agreeing with the description about the dinosaur provided in the reading passage, the speaker claims that the hypothesis to justify the uses of the Dinosaur's crest are not entirely true and he provides new conclusions about those three presented hypothesis.
Within May Swenson’s “The Centaur,” she talks about a little girl that uses her enormous mind to imagine herself transforming into a horse. The girl is in a whole new world of her imagination as she rides through the hills of her backyard. Swenson allows readers to take part in the transformation from human to horse that the adolescent girl described undergoes, thus emphasizing the importance of childhood and imagination on the woman identity and how strong and intelligent they could be.
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton demonstrated many dinosaur characteristics and behaviors. The dinosaurs were fictionally characterized to appeal to the readers. By examining the dinosaur’s appearance and behaviors of dinosaurs such as the duckbilled dinosaur, velociraptor, hypsilophodontids, dilophosaurs, Triceratops, apatosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurs, and maiasaurs distinguished whether the evidence existed in the field of paleontology. The behaviors and characteristics of the dinosaur are divided into three factors as behaviors that were supported, not supported, and no evidence to support or refute the behavior.
