Three Main Causes Of World War (WWI)

Militarism was one cause for the start of WW1. Germany spent millions of dollars to strengthen their military to get it ready for war. Many countries then felt threatened, and this caused them to also put millions into their militaries as well. With having the largest military, Germany was more than ready to to use their army. Germany was so confident that they could win the war with their new army that as soon as war was declared, they didn’t hesitate to be the hammer. But this would be a problem because of the other nations rushing to industrialize their armies. Militarism was a huge factor in the cause of WW1.

There were many reasons as to why World War I began. According to Document 2 the event that started World War I was the death of the Archduke of Austria-Hungarian, Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Bashia. The other main causes of World War I was militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. Militarism was the policy of aggressive preparedness, european nations began arming to protect their assets. During world war one there were many things the came to the start of it. Countries allied together, leaders were blamed for pushing their people to war. Armies went to action starting the wars and everyone blamed each other for it.The way people thought that war was good at the time. All these causes that could have lead to it. Many can argue that nationalism was the cause or alliances etc. However, Militarism was the underlying cause in World War 1.

One underlying cause of World War 1 was the alliance systems. There were two major alliances. The triple entente and the triple alliance (Document A). The triple entente consisted of Russia, United Kingdom, and France. The triple alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and italy. Alliances were quick to support their allies (Document B). Each country had a different point of view of who started the war. So this created a chain reaction (Document B). Those are a few ways alliance systems caused World War 1.

World war 1 brought catastrophe to countries around the world. Leading to the economic depression, the rise of authoritarian leaders, problems with Germany due to the Versailles treaty, and many other outcomes that in fact eventually led to WW2. As you may or may not know WW1 was the 1st war that included countries from all around the world. It was supposed to be the “war to end all wars”. False. later in time came WW2 and many other small wars throughout history. The real question is what were the reasons why world war 1 flourished? 3 main reasons include nationalism, imperialism and militarism. All these are fundamental causes of WW1.

Militarism contributed to World War I by causing tension between the countries. As country’s militaries grew it started building tension which made other countries make their militaries larger. When war broke out in 1914 the Triple Entente could field 2.23 million men when Germany and Austria-Hungary could only field 1.2 million men. The Triple Alliance would be attacked from all sides and Great Britain had the most naval control. World War I did not appear out of thin air. Several things including the alliances that were formed, the pent up hostility, and the assassination of the archduke Ferdinand caused World War I. The alliances that were formed were very crucial and key in causing the war, although many counties claimed them to be defensive in nature. Secondly, the pent up hostility from preceding the war was also equally if not more crucial in causing the war. Finally, the assassination of the archduke Ferdinand was the biggest cause for World War I. While there were many things that caused World War I it seems that the forming of alliances got the ball rolling.

World War I began as a simple assassination between two enemy countries. WWI was also called the Great War because it was the first continental war. It lasted 4 years between 1914 through 1918. With 20 million wounded and 10 million killed, it was a brutal war. With a total of nine nations, including, Germany, France, Italy, Britain, Austria Hungary, Russia, Belgium, Serbia, and the United States. Allies, assassinations, and war preparations were the three underlying causes of WWI. Out of these three, assassinations were the one to blame.

One reason behind World War One was Imperialism. Imperialism is when other countries go and expand their influence whether political or economic. This created economic competition between all the countries for many different resources and foreign markets to sell to. It also put everyone in a winner take all mentality over land which meant more prestige. The combination of those things led to them already fighting with each other before the war even started.

World War 1 was very tragic, there were many deaths and many changes. What was the cause of WW1? You might wonder. The four main causes of World War 1 are nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and alliances. They had a very positive attitude in going into the war. The soldiers were 19-20 years old. They were very well educated and were from middle class. This was was the first war in which women were allowed to fight.

Before World War 1 began there were many conflicts between many countries, these conflicts are what eventually led to the war. Nationalism lead to World War 1 for reasons people believed they needed to fight for their country, many people who weren’t fighting wanted to support their soldiers, and many soldiers felt as if they couldn’t back out of the war. Militarism was a cause because each country was building up their weapons and ammunition, as well as building up their armies. Finally Kaiser Wilhelm II was a cause because he had a very strong hate towards Britain, he was a very aggressive leader and he wanted Germany to be the number one country. Nationalism, militarism and Kaiser Wilhelm II were the three main causes of World War 1.

For many years, causes and driving forces leading to the outbreak of World War I have been argued and disputed. Historians and experts have many different ideas and opinions that may have triggered war. Nationalism, militarism, and imperialism may all have played a role in the coming of World War I, but decisions made by European leaders in the summer of 1914 directly accelerated the conflict.
