This is a fictional story. The scent of food wafted down the hall. “No,” a high pitched shriek echoed towards me. “Please, just give it back.” A lower, more mean voice taunted back, “Why should I, you little idiot?” I round the corner. Shoved up against the lockers is Timmy; my brother. Standing over him is Chris; who bullies the less popular kids. In Chris’s hand lay Timmy’s lunch box and binder. I feel heat swirl in my chest. Timmy, who is one of the nicest guys I know, is getting picked on because he is considered a “nerd” at our school. I look around. There’s a few onlookers, but none of them are stepping in to help Timmy. Chris grabs some carrots out of the lunchbox and tosses them down the hallway. From what I've seen, heard and experienced other children are of accepting it, participating and intervening. I think all three of these reactions are common in children.
