Timmy: A Short Story

In the essay "Who Would Peter be Today?", Ismael Estrada, the writer of the essay, talks about a student named Peter who committed suicide because he was bullied. He killed himself by shooting himself in the head. Estrada never actually bullied Peter but he never stopped it. Estrada also laughed at the taunts and the harsh words made. He reacted as most children do by going along with it. I was bullied as a child and I have friends that were also bullied. From what I've seen, heard and experienced other children are of accepting it, participating and intervening. I think all three of these reactions are common in children.

“Once I got teased, I could see where the anger came from and what can make someone want to kill,” said Stefan Barone, a fourteen year old. (ABC News) The anger and depression is overwhelming and hard to control. There is no doubt that bullying cause’s suicide, and those bullied often commit acts of violence against others.

There are plenty of impacts that happen to someone when they are physically bullied or verbally bullied. “Kids who are bullied are more likely to experience: Depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy. These issues may persist into adulthood.” ( www.stopbullying.gov) Bullying is something that shouldn’t be joked about as there are plenty impacts that can really hurt someone. Being bullied as a kid can even affect someone when they are older.

According to nobullying.com, ¨Over 77 percent of students have been bullied verbally, mentally, and physically. Each day about 160,000 students miss school because of bullying or because of their fear of being bullied.¨ According to nveee.org, ¨86% of students said, “other kids picking on them, making fun of them or bullying them” causes teenagers to turn to lethal violence in schools.¨ When a student gets harassed or bullied it adds anger inside of them and hate. The feeling of being picked on and having this negative attention can make a child act out or feel hatred and somehow want a way to let the anger out. They could also have it all stuffed inside with all of these horrible thoughts and one day decide to explode which could result in a horrible outcome.

With bullying, boys are highly to be attacked by a bully with physical abuse and girls are likely to be bullied indirectly. Statistics show that 15 to 25 children commit suicide. There have been many young people wo have committed suicide due to being bullied. These young peoples names are Ryan Halligen, Phoebe Prince, Dawn Marie Wesley, Kelly Yeomans, Jessica Haffer, Hamel Natosh, April Himes, Cherice Moralez, and Rebecca Ann Sedwick.

For Timmy his at bat in the last inning in the baseball game was the definition of Confidence. As Timmy walked up to the batter’s box his legs started to shake and his hands got clammy. His heart began to pound. But he wanted to hit in the game winning run. He didn’t want to be the player to get the last out in the district championship. So as Timmy stepped in the batter’s box he heard his dad who never misses a game cheering for him and his team rooting him on. They are also scared to tell people because they will feel powerless or weak. Over a span of time, the victim feels so down about themselves and feel they deserve to be bullied. One major negative effect of bullying is low performance in school. They feel no motivation for anything, and school is probably the last thing they are worried about. They will most likely to skip school or fail tests. Another major effect of bullying is depression. Sleeping patterns will change and sadness will increase. You will notice the change in motivation to do activities with friends or play sports. In most extreme cases, self-harm is a result. In a study from Bullying Statistics, according to the CDC, Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year and for every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. People need to understand no matter how bad any situation is, nothing is bad enough in which they have to take their own

Students who are constantly targeted are likely to become increasingly withdrawn from their peers and suffer risk of depression and suicidal thoughts. Some actually end up killing themselves or even taking it out on the bullies.

One early morning Cosmo Cosma walked outside into the damp, foggy air, where he had noticed his basketball idol, Timmy Turner, appeared out of the misty, white fog. When someone thinks of the phrase bullying it’s many thoughts that come to mind bullying can occur in a variety of forms some people deal with the means of cyber bullying some deal with first hand bullying, Emotional bullying, Physical bullying, Etc., and the list goes on most people view bullying as a horrible act by one individual on the other or a group of individuals acts upon one single person. People first thought when bullying occurs is the victim themselves but most people never think about the bully or what inspired the bully to commit the horrible acts that they did or what within the bully caused them to do so. Many kids all around the world are abused by their parents, peers or even by complete strangers. One of these types of abuse is bullying. At a first glance, we might think that it is an older kid beating/teasing a younger classmate however; bullying consists of much more than this. The basic definition of bullying is when your behavior hurts or harms another person physically or emotionally. There are many different types of bullying, which may lead to a victim becoming violent later on. There is teasing and name calling, there is also picking and shoving the kid. However, the most extreme one would be beating up the child, hurting them physically and mainly, emotionally.

Many people do not realize how serious bullying has become. If you look at statistics suicides due to bullying have increased over just a few short years. This has become a very big problem for not only the victim but the bully as well as it affect both of them. School bullying is mentally destructive to not only the victims, but bullies because of the harmful words, harassment, and physical violence involved as well as the consequences for the bully.

Physical bullying can result in many extreme outcomes. The bully creates dangerous physical harm to their victims and in today society EVERY victim has a breaking point and retaliates in a violent way. Victims of bullying get thoughts of suicide, cutting themselves, low self esteem, and also wanting to become a bully because its happening to them. Unfortunately there are a lot of students and staff today and parents do not feel like their schools are a safe place to go because of the types of bullying that occur.

Bullying has the obscured need of an individual to feel like they have the power as compared to others in a social setting. When the bully carries an ego at school, the victim of the bullying may suffer both physical and emotional abuse. Bullying can also extend to sexual and verbal abuse. In some schools, a majority of the popular students tend to pick on the less popular students for the sake of fun and attention from other school mates. The main structural causes of bullying are mostly psychosomatic problems. In most of the times, a bully can also get rid of their own problems by passing it on to others person. In rare cases of young people, teenagers often release their anger out because of their violent backgrounds or negative influences that they come across as they grew up in life.
