I take great pride in my family’s background. My Mother, Tina Franulovich-Martin was born and raised in Anacortes. She attended elementary, middle and high school in Anacortes and is now an elementary music teacher at Fidalgo Elementary School for the past 24 years. Her Father, Paul Franulovich immigrated from Yugoslavia in the 1940’s when he was 14 years old and went straight into high school, not speaking a word of english. My Papa loved this town with all of his heart and never wanted to leave the island. My Grandmother, Bertha Franulovich was born in a small village in southeast Alaska. She is a member of the Tlingit tribe. Her family moved down to La Conner, WA after a fire broke out in their village in the 1950’s. My Dad, Steve Martin,
Laura S. Haviland risked her own life trying to make a difference for the lives of others. She was not very concerned about what would happen to her, she just wanted to make sure others were getting what she thought they deserved. She was an abolitionist and a writer. Throughout her life she was devoted to helping people in many different ways, spending much of her life doing different activities that involved helping people, most importantly slaves and their families. These were things she never had to do, but chose to do. She took it upon herself to spend her life doing this. One of the biggest things she devoted her life to was the underground railroad. She also helped to make big improvements for African Americans. This almost cost her, her life, but she kept going and helping. Without Laura Haviland's demanding work and dedication Michigan would not have made such drastic improvements as they did during this time. Isabella Baumfree was a phenomenal woman . She took a stand for women’s rights, blacks rights, and anti-slavery. She was a well-known abolitionist and orator.Isabella Baumfree, was born in 1797, to parents who were enslaved; she was one of twelve children. She had a rough childhood. She was sold at the age of eleven, along with a flock of sheep for the price of one hundred dollars. She experienced countless beatings and sexual abuse from her master (slave owner). Later, she married a man named Thomas and had children of her own. Her children were eventually sold to different plantations. She was only left with her infant daughter . Isabella Baumfree was a runaway slave. As the result of her children being sold, she was only able to escape to freedom with her infant daughter. After she obtained her freedom ,she went to court and challenged the validity of her son being sold into slavery. She was successful against so many odds in the court case. She won. A freshman in High School, Hannah Corbat had lived on many streets during her 15 years of life. She lived in Swooping Eagle ct, Lotus, Brookchase Ln and Patten. She has a younger brother in elementary school, an older sister at the University of Florida, and her father is in the United States Navy. Hannah enjoys reading and cooking with her mother. Hannah also enjoys drawing and painting at home and even at school.
Laura Dewey Bridgman was born on December 21, 1829, in Hanover, New Hampshire. Her parents were farmers in New England. According to an account by her mother, Laura began her life as “a lively, intelligent, extremely curious child who had at 18 months begun to ‘talk quite plain’ and learn a few letters of the alphabet” (Mahoney). At only two years old, however, Laura contracted scarlet fever for several weeks. During this illness, she lost her senses of, sight and hearing, and most of her senses of taste and smell. This severe loss of senses made it difficult for Laura to communicate with her family and she soon forgot how to speak.

She has been dancing since she was just two years old, and she has been on the competition team for 7 ½ years. Aside from dance, Demi loves to play volleyball. She plays volleyball at Hillsborough Middle School and will also be attending CORE Volleyball this summer. She also loves to bake, especially chocolate chip cookies. Anything that has to do with chocolate chip cookies, Demi adores it. Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, cookie dough chocolate candies, you name it.
