According to The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), Ontario was
in the lead for performed abortion with a number of 28,765 recorded in year 2010
(Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2014, p.2). Majority of the women getting
abortion is between the ages of 20-24 years old. The Canadian Medical Association's
abortion policy defines abortion as the active termination of pregnancy up to 20 weeks in
gestation. Canada does not have an abortion law, so abortion is governed by the same
legislation as other medical procedures (Women’s Care Clinic, 2004). Abortion is one of
the most controversial issues in the world. After reviewing some of the articles about
abortion, I came to realize that everyone sees the topic of abortion in a different way.
Some see it simply as a complicated issue, and some see it as murder and think it should
be banned. The Catholic Church supports the argument to ban abortion worldwide.
Taking of a human life is wrong no matter what the circumstances are or at what stage of
life the fetus was when abortion was done. Abortion is the worst thing a woman can do
against human dignity. It is a crime against life. No woman has the right to kill a new
living being. Many countries ban abortion and many institutions fight against it. Abortion
is immoral and it should not be legalized. Scientists identify the first moment of human
life when a sperm cell unites with an ovum or egg cell. These cells create a fetus and
The fetus has a valuable future, just as we consider children, the retarded or mentally ill to have valuable futures, thus killing a fetus is not morally permissible. Another pro-choice argument is that the fetus has no desire to live and consequently there is no wrongness in killing. Marquis criticizes this viewpoint, as society believes it is morally wrong to kill those who have no desire to live, and those who are unconscious or suicidal (Gedge & Waluchow, 2012, p220).
In most states in our nation today abortion is illegal when the fetus becomes a viable human being, meaning that it can survive outside of its mother's womb. This is often referred to as a late-term abortion, which usually occurs between the 24th and 28th weeks of a pregnancy. One of the problems associated with the ban on late term abortions in the United States is that viability is not defined. That is, there is no set week of gestation where a fetus is said to be viable. Late term abortions are performed for several reasons: sometimes the woman was not aware she was pregnant until the third trimester, some fetal abnormalities can not be detected until late in pregnancy, a mother may become too ill to
Abortion and the morality of it has been a hot topic for years in the United States although it has been carried out for centuries in different cultures. Abortion is a medical procedure deliberately terminating a pregnancy. Abortions usually happen within the first 28 weeks of pregnancy and are considered an outpatient procedure. The first abortion laws were passed by Britain in 1803 and by 1880 most abortions in the U.S. were illegal, except for those that were performed to save the life of a woman. This exception to the rule gives insight into the battle that exists today and the ethical debate of abortion.
of the pregnancy. Abortion is when the pregnancy is ended to prevent child birth. The
Abortion: “the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.” Is abortion murder? Do you believe in a women’s right to chose? This topic has been an argument since 1500 BCE. What do you think or feel is the right decision regarding abortion? There are many arguments that are pro-abortion and there are also many that oppose abortion. “If women become pregnant, they should accept the responsibility that comes with producing a child” (ethics - Abortion: Responsibility of the Mother.” BBC, BBC,), abortion should be illegal.
Despite this attempt, legal abortion access for Canadian women, especially for those who are in rural or remote communities, remains difficult due to the many different barriers, such as not enough of abortionists, unknowledgeable hospital staff, far distance, and high costs. In fact, only 15% of the country’s accredited hospitals had decided to provide the abortion services; in the province of Prince Edward Island, not even a single approved hospital offers the abortion service. Furthermore, anyone who lives in the north has to travel far distance in order to get surgery because most of the hospitals which offer abortion services are usually located within 150km from the US border. Hence, it is very costly and time consuming to travel for the ones who do not live in the city.
If it is morally wrong to harm a human conceptus , then abortion is wrong except where the mother’s life is in danger
Humans deciding who lives and who dies is a slap in the face. Scientists are taking human embryos and disassembling them or killing them to save those who are already dying? That embryo was going to grow into a human being like us, but thanks to embryonic stem cell research lives are being taken. This is called murder
The concept fetus is used to denote the unborn human from the end of the eighth week after conception to the moment of birth, as distinguished from the earlier embryo (the product of conception from implantation in the uterus through the eighth week of development). A fetus contains all the organs and has the basic human form. (Rand)
Just over a million illegal abortions were performed a year in the 1950’s, resulting in over a thousand women dying.
“A living human person begins to exist at the moment of conception, even though only as a cell.” The road to human life may begin at conception, but to call abortion murder is ludicrous and a large exaggeration. Murder is described as the killing of a human being, and an unborn fetus should not be considered a living human being. A fetus is a group of cells that are completely dependent on its mother that cannot live on its own, therefore it should not be considered a human. One of the most popular arguments on the topic of abortion was the supreme court case Roe V. Wade. This case was about a pregnant single women (Roe) challenging the constitutionality of Texas abortion laws. The winning argument in the case Roe v. Wade, states that the “word ‘person’ as used in the Fourteenth Amendment does not include the unborn,” putting this argument to
There are different definitions for this issue. “Abortion is the forcible removal of a developing baby from the womb of his or her mother sing surgical, mechanical or chemical means.” (“Abortion” par. 3) Medical definition says that abortion is any termination of pregnancy before 20 weeks. Therapeutic abortion is a termination of pregnancy by the
A long on-going subject that has been greatly debated in our society is abortion. Many people argue that because the baby in the mother’s womb is not alive, aborting him or her is not considered a murder. However, others say that as the baby’s heart and brain are the first things to develop, the baby is technically alive and killing it would be a murder. As soon as the baby has a heartbeat, it has life. Abortion has many characteristics of a murder, including the killing of one human being by another, it’s unethical, and it is done without the consent of the person.
Abortion is always argued with different cases and play a main role in medical ethics (blackwell.,p291).It is evidently reasonable for some to argue that in moral situation, abortion is a murder and it should be illegal, while others may claim that abortion is woman’s right when concerning on autonomy ( The abortion debate in Australia). Opponents of making abortion legal claim that abortion is a kind of murder on extend of moral situation. It is always regarded as a sin to kill a person who is no aggressor in most moral communities (new ethics 1). Fetus is a biologically human as it is not just a part of the mothers, such as a lung or a kidney. On the contrary, it is obvious that fetus is human due to he or she has genetic code of human and human parents as well (abortion myth p5). Moreover, it has potentiality to be a person with primary moral worth (text book p210-211). As Gillion (new ethics) pointed out, every person has his right to life, especially he is not an aggressor. This point is also been pointed by (Rebecca and john,Blackwell p204), “embryos has a right to life” .The fetus is innocent and
An issue of which I feel strongly is that of abortion which is an issue so unlike any others today in the sense that millions of women have had an abortion have felt a need to justify what they have done so even logic will fail to persuade them against it. There are many arguments for why abortion is acceptable such as we don't know when life begins, and it's just a blob of cells. These arguments are easily refuted if you look at the facts.
