Have you ever wondered how the expeditions in the 1500 were like 2 Ships regularly crossed the Atlantic ocean caring plants, animals, people, and Wealth. The technology used for the boats in the 1500s were triangular sails that help sail into the wind and rubber under the boat so you would go which way you steered the wheel. They navigated the boats by steering the wheel that helped direct the boat to know where to go. They also used knowledge of exploration and trading to know where to go, but some explorers tried to make there own map, however some explorers already had their own maps. They sailed into the wind by the triangular shaped sails on top of the boat, the triangular sails have to be angled in a slightly more forward direction to catch the wind, the …show more content…
It would also be easier because We have maps of the World and we would know where to go because of maps, navigation, and technology. Today traveling is much easier for us then it was for them in the 1500's. They didn't have or know as much as we do now so they struggled a lot, a lot more than We do. They struggled from poor leaders and bad advice, hunger, Confusion of where to go, and diseases, but we are the complete opposite now so it is easier for us. It is also safer for us especially because we now can predict the weather to know if it's safe to travel by sea or not and they could not do that. We also have a better knowing of where to go because lots of people have explored places and land in the past. We also have better boats and We now use gas instead of sails, the boats are also are more high tech. Instead of maps we use navigation systems, which tell us where to go and what the better route is. The bad thing about the boats we use today is they pollute the ocean a lot more than they did in the 1500's. They had a lot more exploring to do back then than We do today So We don't go on explorations that much

The Five Themes of Geography are: Location – Absolute points on a map or grid or Relative to where something may be; Place – The physical and/or human characteristics of a locations; Human/Environment Interactions – How humans have impacted the landscape or environment; Relationship between places Movement – How humans interact on the earth (i.e. how they communicate over distance (short or long)) and Regions – a unit of space that has commonalities defined by physical, human and environmental geography. The Explorers of the New World may have not known what the Five Themes of Geography were but they quickly learned. Of the five themes the ones that they all took advantage of was the physical Location and Place as they learned to navigate
they were organized and knew what to do when the time came to set sail
The innovation of maritime technology has revolutionized travel throughout history. Prior to ships and sea travel, humans were separated by vast oceans and confined to their homeland for life. Because of these large boundaries, discoveries and inventions were only shared within land masses and trade as a whole was very limited. This uncharted, inaccessible territory caused a major separation of mankind. However, these oceans sparked curiosity and desire for explorers to venture beyond their native land. This curiosity was the driving force to the invention of naval travel, a highly important and massive step for all growing communities during the Age of Exploration. Maritime technology’s advancements through history greatly aided in the Age of Exploration, allowing provinces to break their land boundaries and make monumental steps towards the advanced world humans populate today.
West Africa, the wind would take them back home. This let the Portuguese set up
This was not the only similarity though, rudders were rather mainstream at that point and so both of the different ships used the same method of control. Large wooden rudders planted at the back of the ship would catch the water like a sail beneath the surface of the water creating resistance and shifting the bow in the opposite direction. The rudder is still being used in almost all sailboats, and has evolved very little, even after hundreds of years.
to find the new world and their first encounter with the natives that live on the island they landed on.
They traveled thousands of miles over the harsh seas to enter what was, to them, the unknown.
4.1.11 A The development and improvement of maritime tools such as compasses, boats, and maps made the transoceanic European trade and travel possible. This is because the new developments made it easier to travel for longer periods of time and it was easier to get where someone needed to be without getting lost.
It's the 1800s and industrialization is thriving throughout America. People are moving away from an agricultural way of life, moving into cities, developing arts and trades and trying to expand their boundaries of who, where and how they can trade marketable items. In trying to reach more and more customers at further and further distances the ability to travel further in less time creates a demand. In this time period most of the trade routes revolved around rivers as this was the easiest method of transportation and the mighty Mississippi being the largest trade route. However, the problem with traveling the Mississippi or any riverway at this time is that you are at the mercy of the wind and currents. At this time you travelled by boat with full sail and could not maneuver against tides or a poor wind. There was a need to create something that could deal with this dilemma. More and more inventions and machines are being created. With these inventions it becomes effortless to complete painstaking tasks. The effect of this is tade becoming more
First off there was no way that they could find a way to get there so with a guide to help them out it made things go a lot faster.
In order to know the land better, President Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on an expedition to find a route from St. Louis, Missouri to the Pacific Ocean.
Between 1000 and 1300 CE, sea routes was the main factor that led to an explosion of global trading. There were some positive changes in certain tools that made long-distance trade safer. Navigational aids were upgraded and mapmaking improved a lot because it helped travelers on sea get to their destination faster with no problems. People also build more ships because it was an important source that transports large amounts of goods across the sea. Compared to animal-drawn wagons that can carry up to ten pounds worth of goods, dhows can carry at least five tons of goods. Needle compasses were also useful because it gave people precise directions on where to go. This way, it saves a lot of time and traders can avoid any pirates that want to

iii. He called it the Solar Sailor, which has an electric motor they can power to drive the propeller properly, meaning the boat will be more efficient and easy to move and back up without stalling them.
