TRICARE Health Plans is the replacement for CHAMPUS which was the provider of health care services for military dependents. TRICARE not only replaced CHAMPUS but its purpose was also to facilitate members with access to better health care. Unfortunately, TRICARE has gone through many changes and upheavals since its inception in 1997. First, they began by dividing the company into regions. Each member was placed into a region based on where the military member was stationed. If the member was stationed in Maryland then his family belonged to the East Region. TRICARE has had many learning curves to overcome. In the beginning, the contractors were not prepared to handle the amount of members that serve the United States Military. Also, they were unprepared for the multitude of health issues that were plaguing the families. One such issue was the Gulf War Syndrome which the United States Government was attempting to cover up. Over the years, their service to members has improved but has a long way to go in order to compete with some of the private health insurance plans that are available. Many families who have major health issues find it more convenient to pay for private health insurance. This also allows for those families to get care without going through the bureaucracy and red tape that surrounds TRICARE 's policies.
However, not all has been lost. TRICARE is striving to succeed in providing optimal care for their members. They have taken the initiative to enact new policies and benefits that allow for members to see many private and local physicians and dentists. This has had a great impact on how TRICARE is being perceived not only by their members but also the surrounding communities.

You also pay a higher out of pocket cost verse the other plans but you can choose any authorized provider for the services you need this is one of the biggest advantages to choosing standard Tricare.
The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of two federally and/or state funded programs. The programs that will be discussed are Medicare and Medicaid. In this paper will be information about who receives Medicaid/Medicare, the services offered by these programs, and those long term services that are not.
While our understanding has evolved with respect to certain advantages of MCO’s, our understanding of the disadvantages has also grown. This analysis will evaluate the use of MCO’s as a gatekeeper to controlling health care cost and offerings. It will evaluate the advantage MCO’s provide in a rapidly growing market due to the aging of baby boomers. The analysis will evaluate disadvantages that can arise with relying on MCO’s. These disadvantages work against the insurance company forcing a polarizing balance between how much control the MCO should retain over recommendation and provision of services.
Kaiser Permanente is a managed care facility that provides services across the health care continuum. Over the years the organization has continually made efforts toward improvements since it was first founded in 1945. These improvements generate a series of successes that set Kaiser apart from similar organizations. But, just as any health care delivery system, Kaiser has faced challenges in the past, present and may continue to do so in the future. In this paper I will explain what attributes to the success of Kaiser Permanente and some of the challenges they face.
Tricare Standard - An option that provides flexible coverage for eligible beneficiaries. It allows beneficiaries to choose an authorized Tricare provider they desire. However; this option isn't available for active military members. Eligible participants include: family members of active military, retired military and their family, survivors, authorized past spouses, and Medal of Honor donee and their family. There are no monthly premiums, or fees to enroll but this plan does have an annual deductible and a cost-sharing or copay. If you're a Rank E4 and below the cost is $50 per person, $100 per family. Rank E5 and above the cost is $150 per person, $300 per family.
Tricare Prime is a managed care plan similar to an HMO. This plan has Tricare Prime Remote, Tricare Prime Overseas and Tricare Global Remote Overseas. Tricare Extra is an alternative managed care plan for individuals who want to receive services primarily from civilian facilities and physicians rather than from military treatment facilities. Tricare for Life is a plan for beneficiaries who are both Medicare and Tricare eligible. Tricare Reserve Select is a premium based health plan available for purchase by certain members of the National Guard and Reserve activated on or after September 11,2001. Tricare Young Adult is a plan that can be purchased by qualified adult children after their regular Tricare coverage ends at age of twenty-one. Tricare is a secondary payer in almost all circumstances except Medicaid. The Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veteran Affairs (CHAMPVA) is the government’s health insurance program for the families of veterans with hundred percent service related disabilities. CHAMPVA provides coverage for most medically necessary services such as surgical procedures, anesthesia, chemotherapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, mental healthcare, prescription medications, maternity care, family planning, immunizations, durable medical equipment, hospice services and much more. CHAMPVA is usually the secondary payer except Medicaid and supplemental policy.

Hospital should have regular contact with senior citizens and can be made attractive to Medicare patients by offering sessions about healthy life style choices.
