I completed Try For Yourself 15.1. It covers the characteristic of mindfulness. I received a score of 5.06. The average score of 313 University of Rochester students was 3.72. The scale was from one to six, with higher numbers being associated with higher mindfulness. Consistent with how I have felt on all but one try for yourself assignments, I am not surprise to score high in mindfulness. I would have been able guess that I would score somewhere above the mean before examining the questions and scale. In the last try for yourself, I wrote about how I am an introvert. I feel that it also ties in with this as well. I have a tendency to sit back and observe more so than others. I would prefer to see everything and intervene when necessary rather than be the focus of attention the whole time. I see mindfulness and introversion as closely related. Me being an introvert tends to put me in situations where I am in a place to observe and have the time to analyze what I am seeing or feeling. I often think about my surroundings and myself. It was not until I became older that I really developed an interest in this. I began to start to see consistent themes in myself as well as other areas. This really sparked an …show more content…
I feel that I can observe and interpret my surroundings and those around me with relative ease. I am typically very aware of the state I am in for any given time. It is rare that I have something going on with myself and either choose to ignore it or allow for it to slip my mind. I feel that this is advantageous in activities such as bodybuilding. I enjoy working out and dieting properly to maximize results. It takes a high level of mindfulness to be in-tune with the body and ensure that it is being pushed as hard as it can without going to far. I see this as requiring high mindfulness of the self, which is not necessarily the same as being mindful of others, but there are
The next test I took was the self-awareness test. This assessment investigates how well I know myself. My score on this test was 55, just slightly below average. It asked questions about how well I know my personal beliefs and how open I am to structural criticism and feedback. It also asked if I had a friend that I would confide in and ask for advice from. Anyone who knows my best friend and me knows we tell each other absolutely everything, argue, and debate about almost anything. She is also one of the few people whose opinion and advice I will
I enjoyed Anri Sala’s “Answer Me” at the New Museum. The art Sala created was able to use visual and sound as a way to relate to one another. Based on what I know of the time Sala is showing, many people died and there was change happening. Like Irene. I did find myself looking for wall text or explanation other than on the second floor. Some art pieces were striking, while some left me wondering what was the meaning behind it.
Sarah Nilsen, in her journal article “‘Be Sure You’re Right, Then Go Ahead’: The Davy Crockett Gun Craze”, considered the way guns were promoted to the youth by television shows. The show she focuses her attention to is Walt Disney’s Davy Crockett series. As the industry for western films began to slowly grow, the rate of juvenile delinquency became an issue that most parents wanted to fix.
In the story Thank you, M’am by Langston Hughes, After Mrs. Jones brings Rogers in her house, she treats Rogers as if she was related to him. In paragraph 30 the author writes, “Then we’ll eat,” said the woman, “I believe you’re hungry—or been hungry—to try to snatch my pocket book.” This quote supports the claim because Mrs. Jones gave a boy she just met some food for free which a relative would for you. It also supports the claim because if she wouldn’t act like she was here relative, she wouldn’t give him free food. Another piece of evidence is in paragraph 22, the author writes, “When she got to her door, she dragged the boy inside, down a hall, and into a large kitchenette-furnished room at the rear of the house. This quote supports the
In my opinion, nothing can be done. I state that, because even in Biblical times the wealthy which were the Romans could do and get away with just about everything then as we are now. I once thought that knowledge was the key, but that only works individually and not collectively. As I have always stated lady Justice is not wearing a blind fold for no reason, she where it so that she does not have to see all the injustice that is going on in our society. Maybe if they took her blinders off then she could see her scale is not balanced at all. You see, we all want change, but talk is not good enough, because once everyone talks they go home and do nothing. Just as we all have a brain, we all can make a difference, but one person
Sequence - 40 Use First My fiance is a very follow the instructions kind of Man. Everything has to be clear step by step directions with correct timing, he has to be neat and he will finish everything he starts from the begging to end high above expectations.

Correct me if I’m wrong Emerson, but from my understanding you are saying we need to both fill the bucket and light the fire. In some cases I could see why you would say that, but if I am looking at the educational system as a whole I would say that to fill the bucket at all would just be wasting the students’ time. In the time I spent sitting in classes with my peers, learning the things the system wanted me to learn, the only valuable knowledge I was receiving was the knowledge that I could be doing so much more with my time. I understand that you believe the basic fundamentals need to be mastered before a student can in a sense light their fire, but in my opinion one can break through any boundary in his or her way of success as long as
I have sat down about five different times to write this post, and each time I can't bring myself to do it. Not because I am ashamed, but because I don't want it to be real. I have been fighting this reality for the past few weeks. Because it is a part of my life that I have not wanted to give up, I honestly am having a hard time saying, "Jesus I give this to you"... As you read this I am sure that you are becoming a little worried as to what I am talking about, but I assure you when I tell you... You might laugh, because it is so selfish of me...
“Maybe IDK” was written by Jon Bellion on the topic of redemption. Bellion is trying to convey to the audience that it is okay to lack knowledge because we can be redeemed. For example Bellion doesn't know why he does certain things as he says, “I wonder why I miss everyone and still don’t call.”(Bellion 5) When Belion says, “Although I guess if I knew tomorrow I wouldn’t need faith”(Bellion 7-8;) he is realising that if he knew everything he wouldn’t have need for faith that he could be redeemed. Bellion goes further saying, “Maybe I don’t know, maybe I don’t know, But maybe that’s okay” (Bellion 12-13) in this line he is accepting the fact that he doesn’t know everything and that is okay. Both the verses and the chorus use parallelism
A theme is used in a variety of art forms as “a unifying or dominant idea” meant to express a certain feeling or mood (Dictionary.com). When we look at ourselves and try to find a single idea or theme, at first it might seem daunting. Most of us have many ideals that we represent and activities in which we enjoy participating, therefore, it can be hard to find an all-encompassing theme to represent such a complex person. Rather than forcing something, like a song, to fit each person, he or she should just be ready to stumble upon a song, story, or artwork that represents him or her. That is what happened with my theme song, “Have it All,” by Jason Mraz. Instead of feverishly searching for something that defines me, I let this song find me. I have chosen “Have it All” for my theme song for its upbeat style, connection to my goals and dreams, and images that conjure my mom.
Adding before calculating the score, the self-assessment test explains to first reverse-code statement 8, where one measures at strongly agrees and five measures at strongly disagrees. When finished with the self-assessment test, I calculated my score according to the scoring key. All scores would range between 8 and 40, the higher the score, the higher your spirituality is. I scored a 34, which indicates that my belief in spirituality is high and I am pleased to say I agree with this result. I will provide a few examples for why I agree with my results.
When you are mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience. With increased interest in mindfulness-based and mindfulness integrated interventions for medical, psychiatric, and healthy stressed populations.(Brown, Ryan, & Creswell, 2007).has come recognition of the importance of assessing the phenomenon itself. There are sift it can be several reasons for such assessment (Brown & Cordon, 2009), including the basic scientific principle that a phenomenon can be studied only if it can be properly defined and measured. Behavioural scientists have conceptualized mindfulness in two predominant ways.
Respondents need to indicate how frequently they experience the situation described in each item using a 6 point Likert scale ranging from 1 (almost always) to 6 (almost never), where high scores reflect more mindfulness. The scale is assumed that indirect items would be more “diagnostic” than direct claims of mindfulness as mindless states are more common than mindful states(Greogoire & Lachance, 2015). The coefficients of internal consistency of the MAAS were above .90 across three measurement time
I scored a 15 in the category of neuroticism. Per the Shivy handout a low test score indicates I am “more secure and relaxed than most others, even in times of stress” (Victoria A. Shivy). In the workplace a low score will affect me by “you can handle high-pressure or stressful workplaces better than other people. You may note even notice the “office politics” that wear on your co-workers. You are a person to whom others look for calm when stressful things happen, because you keep a cool head” (Victoria A. Shivy). This score is extremely true to my personality and how I handle work situations. I am interested to know if anyone else in
